[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1071364] [NEW] Automatic folder compacting does not work
Public bug reported: Thunderbird automatic folder compacting option (Preferences > Advanced > Network & Disk Space > Compact all...) doesn't seem to be working. With this option enabled, my ~/.thunderbird folder was taking ~30GB and I had to manually click "Compact" on each folder to get it down to 3GB (!). Please note that there is another bug about excessive mailbox size (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1068921), but this one is strictly about broken automatic folder compacting. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 989554] [NEW] Some windows loose decoration on small screen
Public bug reported: Windows that have some size constraints (i.e. can't be made smaller than their original size) and don't have enough space on the screen on startup, loose decorations when started on small screen. Preconditions: - screen resolution 800x600. - a panel taking some space on the left (in my case - unity-2d launcher, always shown). I observed this problem for two applications: gnome-control-center and dejadup in Ubuntu 12.04. It seems that metacity considers them maximized if they don't have enough horizontal space on start. There is a gconf metacity flag - show_maximized_titlebars - if set, then the problem is gone, however the window can't be made fullscreen, as metacity seems to consider it maximized already. ** Affects: metacity Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: metacity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #674929 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=674929 ** Also affects: metacity via https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=674929 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/989554 Title: Some windows loose decoration on small screen Status in The Metacity Window Manager: Unknown Status in “metacity” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Windows that have some size constraints (i.e. can't be made smaller than their original size) and don't have enough space on the screen on startup, loose decorations when started on small screen. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1196051] Re: smart-scopes: Software center results do not show up in the home-scope
This is by design: apps in Home should only include installed apps. "More suggestions" in Applications scope is the only place in the dash where additional apps available from S-C should be listed. While it would be relatively simple to display suggested apps in Home, it would mean they would be mixed together with recently used applications (since in Home results coming from a scope are merged and collapse into single category). ** Changed in: unity-scope-home Status: New => Won't Fix ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. It would be really nice if, when you hit Super and start typing the name of an application you wish to open, Unity behaved more like GNOME-Do. What I mean is that in Unity's current form, you have to type the proper name of the application. Whereas in GNOME-Do, you can just hit a few characters from it and it will find it for you. For example, "Synaptic Package Manager". In Unity you have to start typing S Y N, but in GNOME-Do you could type S M or S P or S P M, etc and it knows what you mean. The letters don't have to be adjacent to each other in the name of the application for GNOME-Do, but they must be in Unity. This would be a nice little feature to have, and would make Unity that little bit more unifying. --- Second description of same issue from dupe bug: This could be seen as a wishlist, but in my opinion the current behavior is unexpected. When using dash and starting writing the name of the application/file, I expected the match being done with *all* the name of the application, not just the *start*. I mean, if I type "dict", I expect to see both "Dictionary" and "StarDict". I notices this several time; you often remember part of the name of the application and sometime it is not the start of it. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1189060] Re: Dash: com.canonical.Unity.Lenses 'home-lens-default-view', scope id's that are listed should remain enabled once a search is started
This is not a bug and it works as designed (but I recon it's confusing and not easy to discover). The 'default view' is the view of home with empty search string (aka surfacing mode) and this key dictates what scopes should be queried in this mode. Whilst in the default view, user can *modify* it be selecting/deselecting filters to personalize it. The change becomes permanent (stored in dconf) as long as search string is empty. Note that not every scopes (actually, very few of them at the moment) surface any data for empty queries. ** Changed in: unity-scope-home Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1266784] Re: GPU hangs during login to rotated display
I get this error pretty consistently when having desktop effects enabled and using google hangouts at the same time; it makes my screen freeze for several seconds, sometimes it recovers after a while (and freezes again some time later), but sometimes it freezes completely and I'm forced to do hard reset. When this happens, I see same i915 error messages as in the description of this bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1266784 Title: GPU hangs during login to rotated display Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: This is occuring when I change users, and when I log in from the login GUI, but not 100% of the time (!). It just started yesterday. Boot brings up the graphical login screen normally. I log in with the primary/only user, and the screen goes very dark and I get just a mouse pointer which appears and moves if I use the mouse (trackpad or etc). I don't seem to be able to get windows to work, but if I could I couldn't see them, since the screen stays black except for that pointer. If I type Ctrl-Alt-F1, it takes a few seconds rather than less than 1 to get to a TTY. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1192081] Re: Previews for applications are really slow to display anything
** Description changed: I'm seeing rightly on forums and generally the Internet that 100scopes previews are slow, combined with the fact that we now have the left click showing the preview by default frustrate a lot of users. On my beefy machine (i7, 8G of rams), the preview for an application takes 3/4s to show, you can't do anything meanwhile as there is no button to launch the application (because you didn't double click, just left click and thought "argh, I should have double click"). Because of this, we are making the 1st landing of 100 scopes experience bad and we should fix it (at least, in that applicatoin lens) by either - preloading the software-center-dbus-data-provide daemon (we can't have - it always running as it's taking up to 100MB of memory) when hovering an - app lens result, or when it's the first result (so can be directly - triggered by pressing [Enter]) + preloading the software-center-dbus (/usr/share/software-center + /software-center-dbus) daemon (we can't have it always running as it's + taking over 100MB of memory) when hovering an app lens result, or when + it's the first result (so can be directly triggered by pressing [Enter]) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1192081 Title: Previews for applications are really slow to display anything Status in Ubuntu Software Center: New Status in Unity Applications Lens: Triaged Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “unity-lens-applications” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: I'm seeing rightly on forums and generally the Internet that 100scopes previews are slow, combined with the fact that we now have the left click showing the preview by default frustrate a lot of users.
