Re: [infra] site deploying

2010-09-27 Thread Simone Tripodi
Hi all guys,
sorry I'm late but I took yesterday to rest a little. That's exactly
the point of my question in my first message, so I approached the
problem using the Antonio's suggestion, since that part was missing on
the wiki page or the link Phil pointed. If you explain me what the
procedure is, I'm more then pleased to fix the new site and add the
missing doc on the wiki.
Many thanks in advance, have a nice day!

@Phil: absolutely right, but that concerns the main site, what I was
worried about is the 2.1 specific release site. I already deployed the
2.2 site, you can see them on http://commons.apache.org/digester/
It seems everything looks good, btw if you couls send some feedback
after a quick review it would be much more than appreciated, thanks in
 advance!!!

Given the way the site menu works, there are now a number of broken links.

The 2.1 guide should actually be part of the deployed site so the
menus continue to work. Now that we have a more elaborate guide (in
terms of number of site pages), perhaps we should just pull specific
release guides in via svn externals.

Not sure how that would work, as the generated documention is not in SVN?

 snip/

By pulling in the guide xdoc for a release from the release tag --
will try such a setup for the site when I get a chance.

No. In Commons, the deployed site should be versioned 2.2-SNAPSHOT.

It is confusing and IMO unnecessary for us to include the site in
the RC, since it is not actually part of the release, but we have
traditionally done that.

See the post-release steps (5 - 7) here:
http://commons.apache.org/releases/release.html

First, update the POM to 2.2-SNAPSHOT. Do the other stuff.
Generate the site locally using mvn site and then deploy it using
mvn site:deploy

The latter can be used at any time to deploy the updated web site.
