I will work on all the requests and suggestions by Bernhard and Lars. Thank you for the input. Your previews seem to be broken... Is there a way to control the preview? Is it all a single bitmapped graphic? If so, it would be nice to have the slogan at the bottom as text so that it can be swapped out easily to match future marketing campaigns. The address labels and return labels should have in the description as being for home use. Businesses often have two address lines. If the logo is a little smaller that would leave the more space for the name. In all three, it would be nice to have some non-printing banner identifying the purpose. Regarding the application Icon, I see one with a TM here and others without: http://www.openoffice.org/trademark/brandrefresh.html I am not sure but I think that cannot be tradmarked but would have to be registered? I'm not the right person to reply to these questions (perhaps someone of the Oracle team can step in), but I didn't hear about any attempt to trademark the gull orb. I've been told about three levels of protection: The logo is covered by the trademark, while the blue only gull orb (at the brandrefresh page with the TM sign) is covered by copyright - a decision about a open source license (share alike or something similar) has not been found. Based on this orb different versions can be created (shaded, 3D effects, following special designs ...), I think this is the reason why the application icon has no copyright sign... I like all of them, but as you know me, I can't comment without any criticism... While both the larger and smaller address labels are really well done and not to be discussed from trademark POV (they don't contain the logo, while the gull orb is not covered by the trademark), the 2x4 stickers will probably need to become approved by the trademark owner (Oracle). As the trademark policy has not been finished yet, I can't tell you if providing the template to everybody interested in using the logo will fit the rules they will establish. Perhaps Stefan Taxhet or Louis Suarez-Potts can provide more information or grant usage - I CC'd them... From design point of view the logo seems to be stretched: it's borders are not as sharp as they should be. If such labels will be allowed to be created, I'd propose to use larger scaled bitmaps or vector graphics as basis for the logo. Best regards Bernhard PS: Your previews seem to be broken... [marketing] Printable Openoffice.org Logo templates
Hi Marketing I am preparing templates ready for print with Openoffice.org logos/artwork like this: http://templates.services.openoffice.org/en/node/4445 for CD Inserts, CD labels, address labels, all size stickers ect. Can I get feedback on the best artwork to use for this and/or suggestions. Thank you Russell dev@marketing.openoffice.org
Re: [marketing] Printable Openoffice.org Logo templates
Hi Russell, sorry for not being able to give a valid advise, but at the moment we're stuck in trademark issues with the new logo. While the old logo was to be used after a confirmation request (with positive reply) on lo...@marketing.ooo, new logo usage should be allowed after filling a form at the website and following the new trademark policy for OpenOffice.org. Unfortunately Oracle legal seems to need even more time in examining the trademark policy draft, so there is no way to get approval for using this logo except with a single case request at the trademark owner - Oracle. Hoping for a final decision on the trademark topic we're working on a more consistent look and feel for OpenOffice.org than before in our Branding Initiative (mainly on the mailing list brand...@marketing.ooo and in the wiki). So even if we would be allowed to use the logo, the surrounding graphical elements and visual language has not yet been defined. Please join the Branding Initiative if you want to be part of the effort to create a consistent visual design that should be used wherever OpenOffice.org is represented by visual means. The only safe way to distribute OpenOffice.org graphics and texts containing the logo is to use the old one, even if this recommendation is counterproductive to an effective OpenOffice.org marketing. Florian and myself have requested advise by Oracle legal on how to proceed in this very unsatisfactory situation, but we've got no reply up to now... Best regards Bernhard PS: If you would like to distribute your templates from the link above, please add the gulls to the logo at the right position and in the right size. Modifying the logo by (re)moving the gulls has not been allowed with the old logo either. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@marketing.openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@marketing.openoffice.org
Re: [marketing] Printable Openoffice.org Logo templates
Hi Bernhard Thank you for the reply. I will delete the template uploaded and wait until the trademark policy and branding is decided. Then I will prepare a collection of ready to print templates. Perhaps these templates should be hosted in both the Art project section and Template repository? The object is to have many types of ready to print templates so folks can conveniently download and use, not necessarily for Worldlabel products but all types of printable media. Each template would reference as many manufacturer/supplies as possible so it would be easy to find the correct supplies to print on.
