The case Andrea described above should be more theoretical if an active community is behind a translation. We released Arabic with 3.4 but there was no active community and nothing happened later on. I would still prefer the 100% rule. But anyway it's my personal opinion. Nobody can today say when we do the next major release (5.x) meaning translations < 100% could be ongoing for a long period. For a minor release, its typically only a handful of messages that are changed, so it not a big workload for any individual. rgds jan I > > Juergen > > > > - > To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org > For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@openoffice.apache.org > >

Hi, our release notes are under https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+4.1+Release+Notes but the download page generates a link based on the complete version 4.1.0, means https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+4.1.0+Release+Notes What is the best way to change the wiki page? [ANN] Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0 released
The Apache OpenOffice project is pleased to announce the immediate availability of OpenOffice 4.1.0. You can download it from our website [1]. Apache OpenOffice 4.1 is a minor update with many bugfixes and 2 major improvements. It's the first version where we have the iAccessibility2 support integrated and available. A very huge step forward to better support disabled users especially on Windows. The second improvement is the switch to 64 bit on MacOS. A long and overdue "must do" shift forward to support newer APIs and platforms on MacOS. And AOO 4.1.0 increases again the number of supported languages which is now 38. The supported languages are Asturian, Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, German, Greek, English (GB + US), Spanish, Basque, Finnish, French, Scots Gaelic, Galician, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Lithuanian, Norwegian Bokmal, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Portuguese Brazil, Russian, Slovak, Serbian Cyrillic, Swedish, Tamil, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese, Chinese (Simplified + Traditional). Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0 will be a further key milestone to continue the success of OpenOffice. Details of new features and enhancements in this release are described in the Release Notes [2]. Those interested in the source code can download it via the links on this page [3]. Re: [ANN] Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0 released
FYI: at Sourceforge, the big green download button downloads the 4.0.1 version. It happened to me, and I almost installed 4.0.1 twice on my computer. Later, I noticed the dark red error message on the sourceforge page, which states that "the 4.1.0/binaries/...86.exe file can't be found or isn't available. ..." I guess other users will find this annoying, and not all of them will find the folder browsing any comfortable. Other than that, Congratulations on the 4.1 release. Re: [PROPOSAL] Do not drop languages in minor releases
Am 04/29/2014 08:19 AM, schrieb Andrea Pescetti: I propose that, once a language reaches our release quality criteria (currently: UI translation at 100% and maintained), we do not drop it afterwards for the other minor releases. With the current criteria, even if only a few new strings appear in, say, 4.2, this would mean that we have to drop the translations that are not updated for 4.2. Ultimately, this would be confusing for users and would mean that we lose an opportunity to involve new translators. If, instead, we can consider the current 38 languages as "released in OpenOffice 4.x" and we continue to add, and never remove, languages to the list for all the 4.x series, this will be much better for users and for our maintenance/infrastructure. I would remove unmaintained languages only when version 5.0 comes. Ah, I've a deja vu from the old OOo project. ;-) There we had a similar problem to solve. It was agreed that 80% was enough for a language to get own install files. But of course I don't want to propose that also today 80% is enough. When we have just a handful of strings not localized, I don't care. And if this results in just 99% or 98%, I don't care. For me it starts with how many words are enough *and* how active the NL community is. E.g., if many are missing but there is a clear indication of activity, we should ask them for a status and how they want to fix the missing translation - or somehow in this way. And then act on the feedback. However, to keep the 100% strict and therefore keep the eyes only on numbers is not helping here. My 2 ct. What about removing a language only when a MINIMUM% of it isn't translated (e.g., 10%)? we had something like this before but defined a new rule to be 100% UI complete and I think this is quite easy and a good rule. The case Andrea described above should be more theoretical if an active community is behind a translation. We released Arabic with 3.4 but there was no active community and nothing happened later on. I would still prefer the 100% rule. But anyway it's my personal opinion. +1, not requiring 100% UI (which is quite easy to do for any translator) is a dangerous path. Nobody can today say when we do the next major release (5.x) meaning translations< 100% could be ongoing for a long period. For a minor release, its typically only a handful of messages that are changed, so it not a big workload for any individual. However, from the view point of a normal user who just wants to update to the next version, it would be confusing why no localized install file is available anymore. So, from my side a clear +1 to keep these languages. How much we allow to be under 100% is just a question of definition (and agreement). ;-) Marcus - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@openoffice.apache.org

But there are other aspects as well. Certainly looking at % completeness is easy for to measure, but it is not necessarily the best criterion. We want to avoid a situation where a translation is rushed and done poorly, in order to meet an arbitrary % goal. I'd rather have a high quality 95% than a low quality 100%. Of course, PMC members do not know all languages. So we need to rely on the translators and the local community. Maybe we can make a criterion from that? For example: If a translation is more than X% complete, AND if that language was downloaded in the beta release more than Y times, AND the RC was reviewed by the translator and Z other community members to vouch for having usable level of quality, then we include it in a release. Or some other way of having the local community take ownership of making this decision. -Rob > Marcus > > > > - > To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org > For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@openoffice.apache.org > - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@openoffice.apache.org

How to update, commit and publish only a single file/directory? [WAS: Re: need wiki help]
Am 04/29/2014 03:45 PM, schrieb Jürgen Schmidt: Keep in mind that when you publish a page all pending changes will be published as well. It is no local update of your changes only. Just as reminder, it's a not so nice side effect of the CMS It seems this wonderful feature is unknown. So let me explain how to publish only your updates: :-) The main point is *where you are* in the CMS Browse View when you click on the "Update" link. Example to update and publish only a file: 1. In your browser open, e.g., "www.openoffice.org/my-dir/my-subdir/index.html". 2. Open the CMS via the bookmarklet. 3. Click on the link "[Edit]" in the row of the "index.html" file. 4. Click on the link "[Update]". 5. Do your changes in the file. 6. Commit your changes. 7. On the following page click on the link "[Publish]". Now only the changed "index.html" file is published. Why? Because you have only updated this file in your local workspace repository on the Apache CMS server [1]. Example to update and publish only the content of a specific sub-dir: 1. In your browser open, e.g., "www.openoffice.org/my-dir/my-subdir/". 2. Open the CMS via the bookmarklet. 3. Click on the link "[Update this directory]". 4. Do your changes in one or more files. 5. Commit your changes. 6. On the following page click on the link "[Publish]". Now only the changed files in this directory are published. Why? Because you have only updated this drectory in your local workspace repository on the Apache CMS server [1]. [1] You can see your local repo on the top right. There is now the following text in the release notes where the alias has been set. "The license could not be verified: There is no license certificate installed for CustomWare Redirection Plugin for Confluence". I believe that it will cause confusion among people reading it in that it appears with absolutely no context just below the links to follow the project on Twitter etc. My first reaction would be to remove the alias until such time as we can determine how to configure the macro properly. How much we allow to be under 100% is just a question of definition (and agreement). ;-) We want quality releases. % translation is part of quality, of course. You should have replied to my other mail. ;-) It seems we have the same direction of the vision. Yes, sounds good. Or some other way of having the local community take ownership of making this decision. What about to include another AND: AND ZZ the language has recent activity on Pootle. Even when the language is a bit far away from 100%, with activity on Pootle we can be sure (somehow) that the language is maintained. I have also updated the en_US and en_CA with the wordlists sent to me by Kevin Atkinson on 2014-01-26. I was thinking also about adding the en_NZ but I have been unable to contact the person who released it (Tristan Burtenshaw) since his e-mail no longer works and I found someone with his name on Facebook, sent a private message, and never received a reply. Currently I am doing all then work but I am not interested in doing more. I will continue to integrate new languages and merge language back from time to time but better would be if genlang can be finished (and I am sure Jan needs help here and volunteers are welcome) or somebody else steps up to support me ;-) Juergen - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@openoffice.apache.org

[RELEASE]: missing Linux 64 bit language packs in AOO 4.1
Hi, I noticed that the Linux 64 bit language packs are missing in the AOO 4.1 release. I am currently pushing them on dist and SF to be available later. I am wondering why nobody have noticed this before. Because of a typo in my scripts they were not available in the RC builds as well and nobody have noticed this. Well they are for convenience only but I am still wondering. Juergen - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@openoffice.apache.org
