It would be nice if at least the PMC group got knowledge about the size of
this fund. I got asked the other day by the EVP and found it a bit
embarrassing that I did not have a clue.

With my TAC-PMC hat on, I can confirm that we do not have budget for
non-essential apache events. The application procedure is only complex if
you make it so, we ask you to fill in a form of 15 questions (like what do
you want funding for) see tac-apply.apache.org, this is done for all events
we fund.

Of course it does. See http://s.apache.org/Vcg and
http://s.apache.org/YqfA (links only accessible to members). Despite
many discussions, we never managed to reimburse anything so far except
merchandising for FOSDEM 2013 (about 145 EUR).

Thanks for a swift reaction !

Just to sure nobody misunderstand it, the "never managed" part is not due
to lack for will ! We are very open to any proposals, that benefits our
community but there has not been so many request (and some of them ended up
by people not asking for funding).

Re: About debugging tokenizer of writerfilter

2014-08-10 Thread Hung Mark
Hi Peter and Regina,

I realized that I might have skipped important steps.
Later on I built with debug=t and install the so file, it printed another
error message.
And I guess that pre-installed libreoffice in my ubuntu 12.04 might affect
the result.
I'm now rebuilding my environment.
I tried wiki, and I wonder if it is possible to get detail instructions
here.

Best Regards.

I would not re-propose the build system, for a couple of reasons:
a) We have proven the a visual studio build system is possible, but the
community expressed doubt that a third build system is a good idea.
b) Even though quite a lot about the build system, its hard to mentor
student, without having active cooperation from other developers
c) It was basically not too complex, but it was a very hard job to split it
into pieces understandable by the students.

I have about 15 converted modules, and a script that can generate VC++
solutions. I have opted (until now) not to commit it, because its too
scattered for somebody else to build on.

The students are in their final year, and use this as a preparation to get
out in real life. The commitment and knowledge level of the students were
very different. The distance (portland USA - spain), did not offer a big
problem.

The initial efford was very high, I was so lucky to have a lot of help from
Steve H. (even though he is not at all involved in our project but in
XALAN-C). I think the two of us together used 2 days a week the first
couple of weeks to make VMs, build plan and help the students define the
project. After the initial round, I used a couple of hours every week
(replying to email and having a google hangout).

A new project that builds on the one completed, would require a lot less
startup efford, and if someone volunteers then I will be happy to help.
Bear in mind any volunteer for that kind of project need to know how to
change our build system, not only use it. There are however plenty of other
possible themes.

I think the problem is not finding a project, but finding somebody willing
to be mentor. Lets not discuss project, before someone volunteers, then the
project should be made to fit the experience of that person.

That's fairly interesting. Can you provide more information on that, perhaps in
an issue report? I think that many have (or could have) similar experiences, as
Ubuntu comes with LO.

It is, if you also file an issue and just do the usual of reminding everyone :-)

But also, your experiences can add usefully to any content in that wiki. It's a
good "fail." :-)

Hi Louis,

After I enable debug by 'build debug=t', I glimpsed the traceback message
with 'libre...'. (not very sure)
Then I reinstall my VM and delete all libreoffice.

Here is what I do and the resulting message. Well, I guess it's nothing to
do with libreoffice ;-(

The older releases -- up to 4.x -- are available from the Archive area --

If you're having problems installing the newer release 4.x and above, I'm
sure you could get some assistance on either the AOO users mailing list or

Hello Mads,
besides the recommended reading of

could work on.

For example: if you know Danish, our priority would be to get the Danish
download page translated; if you like technical writing, we have
documentation to be completed; if you wish to code, you should get your
first build done and then try to apply an existing patch. Please let us

[QA][Test Report] Weekly Status Update as of 20140811

2014-08-10 Thread Yuzhen Fan
Hi All,

AOO 4.1.1 Full Path Regression Test(FPR) have been closed on Aug 8, we
continue testing RC1 as wait for RC2, here is the weekly update (8/5 -
8/11):

*Test execution:*
We have assigned 176 text executions to about 20 volunteers, and completed
about 75.6% in execution (133 test executions done). Although we do not
meet the 100% completion goal before planned date, Aug 8, the execution
coverage and test result so far are good among platforms.

*Defect summary:*
1. We have verified 58 of 4.1.1 resolved showstopper bugs (Total 75 as of
Aug 11, increased 2 since Aug 4. Backlog is 17, none for function bugs)

*Issues & quality highlight:*
1. We have completed to verify all function defects! We still need defect
verification volunteers, to verify language bugs and API/code level bugs
2. Test execution volunteers on Mac & Redhat Linux 64bitMac have caught up
this week
3. No critical and potential showstopper have been reported, every thing is
good so far

*Volunteer status: *
1. We have total 20 test execution volunteers joined in FPR execution work
since June 24, 2 are from Apache OpenOffice Forum
2. We have total 16 defect verification volunteers joined in 4.1.1 resolved
showstopper bug verification work since June 23

*Plan for next week:*
1. Continue testing with RC1, by executing not-run test cases in FPR
2. Switch testing with RC2 once it is available
3. Continue to organize the RC test and bug verification

Thank you all for effort provided last week, especially on Mac/Linux Redhat!
