The user can help to bring her/his language into AOO. I volunteer to create such a webpage. We have two similar pages already, though they could use some updating: http://www.openoffice.org/projects/untranslated.html http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/eol-nl.html We used the 2nd one when we declared End of Life for AOO 3.4 I'll update them. Also if it's possible to combine both as 3 pages are too much. Three is a lot. I think untranslated.html was used to notify pre AOO versions of OpenOffice where we did not have support for their language in AOO. If we had support for their language we would just offer them a normal update notification. But for the others we sent them to this page. The eol-nl.html version was used in a similar way, but a slightly stronger message when we declared EOL on OpenOffice.org 3.3.0 and earlier. This can be combined, I think. We never really deployed these fully, but just used them for a couple of weeks to test the reaction. They are called from the update notification service, so if we change the URL we'll need to update it there as well. I think legacy/thankyou.html page is hard coded in OOo installs. It is called after installing. So we don't want to change that URL. OK In the last 30 days we've had: 45,713 hits to legacy/thankyou.html And zero hits to untranslated.html or eol-nl.html. Great, you have just answered my next questions (how many hits and which page should survive) ;-). if nobody objects I will delete the both 0 hits pages and combine the whole content + updates in "legacy/thankyou.html". To be precise, that URL is not hard coded. But we are redirecting to it the following hard coded URLs from ancient versions of OpenOffice: https://registration2.services.openoffice.org/ http://registration2.services.openoffice.org/ http://survey.services.openoffice.org/ They were used to "register" the product after installation and possibly for a survey shown to users who were uninstalling it. I volunteer to create such a webpage. This page can probably be repurposed to that: http://www.openoffice.org/legacy/thankyou.html (we already redirect to it some legacy links, possibly the user survey from early 3.x versions). Great, an existing page. And it's time to update this when looking at the version number ;-) - which I'll do roughly right after this post. More to come. [UPDATE SERVICE] New landingpage for languages not included in AOO
Hi all, some time ago Oliver told me that it would be great to have a landing webpage for languages for that we have not (yet) a release but in the past with OpenOffice.org.
