Re: [Dev] Include -DworkerNode=false by default in wso2server.sh startup script?

2014-03-03 Thread Ashansa Perera
+1 for adding this to carbon.xml to avoid the human errors, since passing
this param can be easily missed by someone who is not used to it. And
supporting both ways ( if not given as command line input, take the
configured value ) would be great.

And as like we have the logs when applying patch changes ( which is really
helpful IMO ), logging the profile name would too help a lot.

[Dev] Loss updates in RXTs

2013-11-12 Thread Ashansa Perera
Hi all,

In App Factory we encountered an issue of loss updates in RXT attributes
when there are parallel attribute value updates ( when caching is on ) As
discussed with Senaka and Ajith this is possible if two threads get the
same object from cache at the same time and update values.

We had few solution for this including introducing a queue for incoming
update requests and synchronizing the get-update block.
After the offline discussion with the team members we thought of going
ahead with synchronizing the block with the application ID and tenant
domain which allows us to have higher concurrency level ( Since it allows
to have concurrent updates to attributes in different applications which is
okay )

Hi Gayan,
Yes I agree that we should support deploying the artifact that user needs
and we had the same with the tagging concept in our early milestones. I
think that would be the ideal solution for this and we can discuss with the
team regarding this.

 Issue is proposing to disable the button when no successful builds are
 there. So
  1. I thought we have removed lot of disabling buttons because this
 confuses the user.
  2. If we disable buttons each time this page loads there will be lot
 of calls going to jenkins to check for successful builds to just disable
 the deploy button. And if we have 10 branches there there will be 10 calls
 for each page load.
 So without disabling the button its better to let the user click the
 button and popup a message saying there are no successful builds available.
 Please build first. This will reduce the unnecessary calls. WDYT?

 *Enable the deploy button after it is deployed*
 https://wso2.org/jira/browse/APPFAC-1645
 To do this we have to sync with deployed servers to check the
 deployment status. Then there may be lot of calls to back end according to
 the above suggestion.
 Are there any other ways to do this ?

 We do the deploy as an async operation. However lets say we implement
 this. There are two concerns for me.
  1. What happens at page reload. Does it re-enable?
  2. What happens if deploy fails for some reason. User wont be able to
 deploy that branch again.

 And I think disabling buttons will confuses the user since user doesn't
 know when this button will be enabled. WDYT?

 var application = %=session.get(APP_INFO);

 Following detail can be found ,
 application.key
 application.name
 application.owner --- this is the creator of the application
 application.description
 application.type
 application.typeDisplayName
 application.repositoryType
 application.repositoryTypeDisplayName

 Yes, It can be done in Java Level. But here we are talking about front

 Hi,
 I think it is better to have $subject in appfactory. ATM there is no
 common place to get info of the application.Now it is bit hard to keep
 tracks on where are the details we want , for example Logged in user,
 tenant id, tenant domain.
 I will start implementing it with a object called APPLICATION_INFO
 which is in the session , and have planned to store following information.

 -Logged in User
 -Application Owners
 -Tenant domain
 -Tenant Id

 Please add if I have missed anything.

Re: [Dev] Kernal-4.2.0 build fails

2013-09-16 Thread Ashansa Perera
Hi Manoj,

Me to had to do the same thing mentioned above by Danushka to get this
built on that day, but I just checked now with the svn pom.xml version and
the build is successful now.
I have no clue since there are no changes to pom, but few of us faced the
same issue those days, anyway I could build security-verifier without any
local changes now.

Re: [Dev] [Appfactory] common object in the seesion to hold data related to an applicaiton

2013-09-03 Thread Ashansa Perera
Hi,

I think the intention here is to store the most required attribute values
in one common object and add it to session(there are some attributes that
we always need when accessing application related data) and refer it when
required.
When trying to retrieve that object and if null we should create the object
and add it to session, so would solve the problem of entering URL by hand
without navigating through app home.

 Earlier, I thought the same thing. But if we are gonna include

 IMO, It is like this, when application home is loaded for a particular
 application APPLICATION_INFO object is created and put to the session with
 details I mentioned in the first mail of this thread.
 So every time switch applications ,relevant APPLICATION_INFO object is in
 the session. WDYT?

 +1 for this  idea.

 But what happens if user paste some url other than home page. How do we
 detect that application is changed? We need to have some check before
 loading each page then.

Me too agree to keep the url there than the command ( git clone url)
because we cannot expect that all the people are using command line to

 +1 instead of copy URL we should put actually the command. This applies
 to the mysql as well.

 So If we can't give that URL with above parameters to specific to the

Re: [Dev] In AppFactory do we allow to update repository after promote the app

2013-08-12 Thread Ashansa Perera
Yes Harsh, in that case we should limit auto build and deploy only for
the buildable stages.

 Hi,

 I just notice, after we promote the app, if some one commit the code for
 that branch then it will automatically build and deploy on the promoted
 staging server. Is that the way that we are giving or we should not build
 and deploy it in to the promoted stages ?

 AFAIK It is not right if some one commit the code after released it to the
 next stage. But in our side we should control this, isn't it ?

Re: [Dev] Sending custom parameters in confirmation email link

2013-08-08 Thread Ashansa Perera
Hi Amila,

Our requirement was to store some details given at org registration time
and use them after the email verification. What we were discussing was to
store those details with some unique id and retrieve them after
verification. That was the reason for the requirement of $Subject.
But in the milestone review we concluded on different approach so that we
do not have this requirement of storing the details anymore.

But generally wouldn't that be a valid requirement? As I understood this
can be achieved by a simple if condition of EmailSender.

 ie: we need to send something like

 As I noticed when going through the EmailSender class, it does not accept
 external parameters rather add the confirmation key to the target EPR.

 Could someone please state whether it is possible to achieve the above

Re: [Dev] Is there a setup guide for App-factory?

2013-07-23 Thread Ashansa Perera
Hi,
The downloadable zip at [2] is the appfactory build, but for AF to function
needs all the other required products + the tools we use. You won't be able
to unzip the AF zip and work as like other products since AF is a solution
rather than a product we built by using other product + tools .

The plan was to have the AF + stratos with the puppet scripts to setup the
environment.
AFAIR Ramith was working on puppet scripts.

[Dev] AppFactory - data source creation

2013-05-20 Thread Ashansa Perera
Hi,

In AppFactory when we configure resources for a created application (
databases, data source,etc ) we allow user to create databases
corresponding to the stage (dev, test, etc ).
At datasource creation time he can pick one of the dbs created and
currently what we are doing is by default the datasource will point to the
same db in all environment (refer the attached screenshot). User can change
the db if required.
In an AF discussion an opinion has come up whether we should/ should not
copy the db for the other environments by default.
What would be the best thing to do?
If directly pointing is not good, one option can be to have a checkbox to
ask whether to point to the same db in all stages by default.
If we do not add db values by default we should block promoting the
application if no db is defined for the target stage.

What would be the appropriate?
Appreciate any thoughts.

 But in staging set up, the build is fine. The repo has the files as below.

Re: [Dev] Data service does not give the expected output matches to the mapped URL

 Hi,

 If you're using the same data service to represent all the stages, the
 service must be re-deployed to get the changes from the data source, which
 is what is happening when you save it again. The lookup of a data source is
 a deployment time action, and changing the data source later will not have
 any effect on the data service at runtime.

 When I open the xml view of the data service and save it, it gives the

 What could be the reason here? Can it be any caching issue?

[Dev] What is the accepted behaviour when adding EPs to services in Greg through UI

2013-02-14 Thread Ashansa Perera
Hi all,

I am using Greg 4.5.3 and I have added a wsdl to Greg through a service
deployed in AS. When I log in to Greg and add an EP to the service related
to that wsdl through UI, it shows up the EP in the UI for service. But
nither it creates an EP (I do not see that EP under /endpoints ) nor the EP
is added to the wsdl related to that service.
Is it the correct behavior?
When we add an EP to the service don't we need to create an EP add it as a
dependency to service and add the same EP as a dependency to the wsdl
related to that service?

[Dev] Jenkins authenticate tag is set to false in appfactory.xml

2012-10-19 Thread Ashansa Perera
Hi,
Is there a specific reason to change the 'Authenticate' property to 'false'
( *Property name=Authenticatetrue/Property* ) in appfactory/vmware/
appfactory_deployment/resources/appfactory.xml.
Because of this change I am getting the error [1] when creating an
application, jenkins job is not getting created.
This was set to 'true' in
appfactory/modules/distribution/product/resources/appfactory.xml.
Any specific reason for this change?

Review notes

Avoid using ui.execute, use repository url and read/write permission
Use https when using basic auth
Change the hardcoded repo version '0' to HEAD
Use constants than String literals
Define a ENUM for repository types
When creating the working directory, use UUID than using the current time
When logging errors use log.error(message,e) than just logging a message
When required, throw exceptions than just logging
(if failed to delete the workingDir, if repository provider is not found,
etc )
Use String than StringBuilder outside loops
Util package should be come under 'internal'
Register repository providers in their own package

Do not store username/password as variables
Do not log in as apache user to create repository
Have a comment on why we cache the hashed password

Have more comments
Format code
Use meaningful variable names

Please add if anything is missing

[Dev] [Jaggery] Whether to use WSRequest or WSStub?

2012-06-05 Thread Ashansa Perera
Hi,
In appfactory we are using jaggery to call our webservices/bpels. We were
using the WSRequest for this purpose before, but after jaggery introduces
the WSStub we thought of moving to stub. The reason we wanted to move from
WSRequest to stub was that we had to manually create the payload when using
WSRequest. But what I saw was even when using WSStub we need to mannually
add parameters etc.
With WSRequest we used
var ws = require('ws');
var request = new ws.WSRequest();
var options = new Array();
options.useSOAP = 1.1;
options.action = urn:process;
var payload = 'p:CreateApplicationRequest xmlns:p=
http://wso2.org;applicationName
xmlns=http://wso2.org;'+applicationName+'/applicationNameuserName
xmlns=http://wso2.org
'+userName+'/userName/p:CreateApplicationRequest';
request.open(options, endPoint, false);
request.send(payload);

As we got to know this is how we have to create the payload for WSStub
var ws = require('ws');
var stub = new ws.WSStub(endpoint);
var getVersion =
stub.services['CreateApplication'].operations['process'];
var payload = getVersion.payloadJSON();
payload[p:CreateApplicationRequest].applicationName .$ =
userInput;
payload[p:CreateApplicationRequest].userName .$ = userInput;
getVersion.request(payload);

What I got to know when talking to jaggery team was, with WSStub also we
need to manually create the payload (xml string) or set the input
parameters by giving the parameter names and values to the JSON (as in the
example above) which does not differ much from what we do with WSRequest.
The suggestion of the jaggery team was to go with WSRequest for the moment
coz the current stub is not giving much support over WSRequest and what
they mentioned was that the stub will be improved to ease the job and so
for the moment it is better to go with WSRequest without changing to stub.
Me too did not feel much difference using WSStub over WSRequest. So what we
need to know is whether the stub design will be changed in near future and
whether it is OK to go with WSRequest for the moment?

Please point me if there are any significant advantages of using the
current stub over WSRequest and could someone please state whether the
WSStub design will be changed in near future?

Re: [Carbon-dev] Pagination in activity search - Greg

2012-01-13 Thread Ashansa Perera
I have implemented the logic and a screenshot is attached. I had to add an
attribute 'noOfPageLinksToDisplay' to the
/core/org.wso2.carbon.ui/src/main/resources/web/WEB-INF/tlds/carbontags.tld
in order to allow developers to configure the number of links to be
displayed in pagination.
In case the developer does not set this value, we can
 have a default value
 display links to all the pages. ( the existing logic)
Could you please suggest the best way to go with?

core/org.wso2.carbon.ui/src/main/resources/web/WEB-INF/tlds/carbontags.tld/carbontags.tld
contains tags for 2 Paginator classes as follow.
for Paginator
: pageNumber, numberOfPages, page, pageNumberParameterName,
resourceBundle, nextKey, prevKey,
 parameters, showPageNumbers

for ResourcePaginator : pageNumber, numberOfPages, tdColSpan,
page, pageNumberParameterName, resourceBundle, nextKey, prevKey,
parameters, paginationFunction

As I understood tdColSpan is the parameter which is handling the pagination
logic of activity search in Greg. But the jsp related to this JIRA is using
Paginator which does not contains tdColSpan parameter and the Paginator
logic is implemented such that links to all page numbers are visible for
tenant.

[Carbon-dev] Different naming conventions in jars

2012-01-05 Thread Ashansa Perera
Hi,

I noticed that compiled jars in the trunk have different naming convention
than the jars in the plugin folder of server distribution. As an example
in trunk:  org.wso2.carbon.statistics-3.2.0-SNAPSHOT.jar
in plugin : org.wso2.carbon.statistics_3.2.0.SNAPSHOT.jar
Why there is different naming conventions and which is the correct way?

Thanks.
