YAST for Fedora?

2017-04-12 Thread Farhad Mohammadi Majd
Hello, SUSE distributions have a system control panel that can configure many
aspects of the system. It is the best feature I saw in SUSE, it is very
interesting, useful and beneficial for all users.

* Why Fedora does not have such tool?

* How much money is need to develop such tool from scratch or port it from SUSE
to Fedora/RHEL?

If Fedora provides such tool, it can attract many users from Ubuntu, Debian and
others to Fedora.

Could it at least try to recognize the current desktop environment

And in reality its 20 million entries (master + replica)

Not really :) We don't have to rely on server side sorting, and it's
just a paged result search - so it breaks up the load (slightly). But,
it's still expensive because it is returning all the entries, but I
didn't see any extreme CPU usage.

Easy, no problem.

I think it should always be a standalone tool, but we can tie it in with
lib389 (move the main guts out of the tool and into lib389)

Hey mate,

The tool looks great, awesome work on this. Really impressive that you
got it to 70 minutes for 10 million entries.

How responsive is the server during this process? We aren't going to
cause some odd resource exhaustion?

import optparse

With python, optparse is deprecated. Can we use argparse instead? It's
nearly identical. Lots of examples of this in dsctl.

With connect to replicas, some sites may only have ldaps (provided by a
load balancer). So our scripts should really be taking an LDAPurl, a
certdir, and a starttls flag. Because ldaps://localhost + certdir is a
valid option, but if we force call start_tls_s(), we break it. As well,
someone may use ldapi:// etc. It also saves on port options and more
flags to the cli because we can do ldap://localhost:30389 etc.

Hope that helps, I'll be happy to review again later!

For now, I think our strategy with this should be to add it to
389-ds-base, and later we can move this into lib389 when we can. How
does that sound?

[389-devel] Please review new Replication Diff Tool

2017-04-12 Thread Mark Reynolds
Hello,

This is a beta version of a replication diff tool written in python.

Design page (this needs updating - I hope to get that done tonight)

http://www.port389.org/docs/389ds/design/repl-diff-tool-design.html

Current usage:

  -v, --verbose Verbose output
  -o FILE, --outfile=FILE
The output file
  -D BINDDN, --binddn=BINDDN
The Bind DN (REQUIRED)
  -w BINDPW, --bindpw=BINDPW
The Bind password (REQUIRED)
  -h MHOST, --master_host=MHOST
The Master host (default localhost)
  -p MPORT, --master_port=MPORT
The Master port (default 389)
  -H RHOST, --replica_host=RHOST
The Replica host (REQUIRED)
  -P RPORT, --replica_port=RPORT
The Replica port (REQUIRED)
  -b SUFFIX, --basedn=SUFFIX
Replicated suffix (REQUIRED)
  -l LAG, --lagtime=LAG
The amount of time to ignore inconsistencies
(default
300 seconds)
  -Z CERTDIR, --certdir=CERTDIR
The certificate database directory for startTLS
connections
  -i IGNORE, --ignore=IGNORE
Comma separated list of attributes to ignore
  -M MLDIF, --mldif=MLDIF
Master LDIF file (offline mode)
  -R RLDIF, --rldif=RLDIF
Replica LDIF file (offline mode)

|Examples: python repl-diff.py -D "cn=directory manager" -w PASSWORD -h
localhost -p 389 -H remotehost -P  -b "dc=example,dc=com" ||python
repl-diff.py -D "cn=directory manager" -w PASSWORD -h localhost
-p 389 -H remotehost -P -b "dc=example,dc=com" -Z
/etc/dirsrv/slapd-localhost|
|python repl-diff.py -M /tmp/master.ldif -R /tmp/replica.ldif |

How long the tool takes to run depends on the number of entries per
database. See performance numbers below

Entries per Replica Time

-
100k40 seconds
500k3m 30secs
1 million 7m 30secs
2 million 14 minutes
10 million ~70 minutes

I'd be very interested in feedback, RFE's, and bugs.

Thanks,
Mark

Self introduction: Artur Iwicki

2017-04-12 Thread Artur Iwicki
Good day, everyone.

My name is Artur Iwicki. I am a hobbyist game developer (going by the nickname
"suve")
and I would like to bring some of my works to the official repositories.

Currently I have submitted two review requests, one game and one command-line
utility.
- https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1441813

I've been using Fedora since F13 and so far I've had a really good experience.
I'd like to give back to the project and I guess adding new software might be
one way to do so.
I could possibly help with maintaining other packages, if needed.

Best wishes,
A.I.

Announce: DistGit namespace migration: docker -> container

2017-04-12 Thread Adam Miller
Hello all,
The migration of the docker namespace in DistGit, cgit, PackageDB
and Container Guidelines is now complete. This migration is at the
request of the Fedora Atomic WG[0] to highlight that Fedora is
targeting all OCI[1] compliant container runtimes instead of any
specific one.

For those who maintain container layered images in Fedora space you
will need to re-clone your DistGit repositories under the new
namespace. (Backwards compatibility was not left in place on purpose
because of an inheritance attribute of namespaces mapping to koji
build targets):

$ fedpkg clone container/foo

Instead of:

$ fedpkg clone docker/foo

This marks "Phase 1" of the migration and was the big ticket items. We
did not want to wait on Phase 2 to announce because they are mostly
cosmetic/book-keeping and with Phase 1 complete we can keep from
increasing the layered images needing migration later. We also wanted
to let container maintainers know as soon as possible after the
changes to DistGit and PackageDB went live.

Builds will continue to work as they had previously with once you re-clone:

$ fedpkg container-build

Phase 2
There are three final items which are: the migration of the koji
targets, the migration of the $DISTTAG and the Buzilla entry[2].

The koji tags and targets exist but builds won't use them until a
required rpkg patch is merged upstream[3] to properly inherit the new
DistGit namespace.

The Bugzilla entry is currently awaiting update from the Fedora Infra
and Bugzilla Admin groups[4].

Once these changes are in place, we will release a new Fedora base
image set that will include the updated $DISTTAG which will be
inherited by layered image builds upon new builds (which are all
rebuilt before a container release so this will happen automatically).

Thank you,
-AdamM

Well, you are right… Rendering of GTK2-based apps was broken in GTK3 /

Luckily libyui-gtk was ported to GTK3 in July 2012 and works fine since

libyui is used by YaST. I'm surprised to learn it's used by anything
else. It's not good. The GTK+ support has been very broken for a *very*
long time (~2011) with buttons running off the edge of the windows, to
the point where openSUSE switched to just using the Qt interface at all
times. You can do much better using Qt or GTK+ directly, indeed.

On Wed, 2017-04-12 at 18:20 +0200, Björn 'besser82' Esser wrote:

@Björn: Do you know how libyui chooses the toolkit?

Yes. Libyui performs a check on init of ui whether it's running on
a
TTY or not:

if TTY it instantly uses libyui-ncurses
else it *tries* to load - and uses the first available -
GUI-backend in the following order:

  libyui-qt
  libyui-gtk
  libyui-ncurses

If it cannot load any backend or cannot open a TTY in case of
libyui-ncurses, it throws an error and shuts down the ui.

To throw in my 2c as gtk maintainer: I'd rather have a well-written qt
app on my desktop than something that relies on fragile toolkit
abstraction layers like this. Both gtk and qt are already abstractions.
Adding another one on top does not make things better, most of the
time...

Libyui is a well tested and since 15 years proven to work toolkit /
abstraction-layer written by SUSE, even used in SLES… It's powering
their installer and system-configuration tooling.

To throw in my 2c as gtk maintainer: I'd rather have a well-written qt
app on my desktop than something that relies on fragile toolkit
abstraction layers like this. Both gtk and qt are already abstractions.
Adding another one on top does not make things better, most of the
time...

I can answer that, because I just installed for testing and got both of

Yes it is expected that you geth both then. I don't know how libyui
decides which backend it uses. There are possibilities to force that
via command line options (--qt,--gtk,--ncurses) and .desktop files
shown depending on the desktop.

@Björn: Do you know how libyui chooses the toolkit?

Yes. Libyui performs a check on init of ui whether it's running on a
TTY or not:

if TTY it instantly uses libyui-ncurses
else it *tries* to load - and uses the first available -
GUI-backend in the following order:

libyui-qt
libyui-gtk
libyui-ncurses

If it cannot load any backend or cannot open a TTY in case of
libyui-ncurses, it throws an error and shuts down the ui.

I'd actually like to escalate this from a Change proposal (which
generally fit into Fedora releases) to a Council-level project
Objective. That basically means rename to
 https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Objective/FedoraAtomicCI and file a
 council ticket. :)

+1 - The overall effort should be called something more generic, where
the first stage is to implement for atomic host.

Sure, it does, but if this becomes an actual aspect of Fedora, as
Matthew Miller wants (and it makes sense), then it makes little
sense to call the thing Atomic CI. Instead CI for Atomic would

Conflicting gstreamer1-plugins packages in rawhide?

2017-04-12 Thread Guido Aulisi
I tried to build a new version of jalv package and I got a conflict
between gstreamer1-plugins-bad-free-1.11.2-1.fc26.x86_64 and
gstreamer1-plugins-base-1.11.90-1.fc27.x86_64

Local mockbuild for x86_64 had no errors.

Partial output of root.log:
DEBUG util.py:439:  Error: Transaction check error:
DEBUG util.py:439:file /usr/lib64/gstreamer-1.0/libgstrawparse.so
conflicts between attempted installs of gstreamer1-plugins-bad-free-
1.11.2-1.fc26.x86_64 and gstreamer1-plugins-base-1.11.90-1.fc27.x86_64

Other arches report the same error.

It seems to me that gstreamer1-plugins-bad-free-1.11.2-1.fc26.x86_64
could be the problem, but I'm not sure.

What could be the problem here?

The idea is to start with something that has a limited impact, I believe the
idea is to build up the pipeline in such a way that it can scale to the entire
distribution, but we need to start somewhere and Atomic Host is a deliverable in
itself and as a small set of packages making it easier to control and experiment
with.

I hope someone can help me with the following question:
Does recent Fedora's rpm support nested rich-dependencies like:
   Supplements: (pkg_a and pkg_b and pkg_c and (pkg_d or pkg_e))
Is there any way to express a dependency like that?

Can you give an example of when this might be a good idea? It seems
easy to go overboard with this without clear benefit.

The example is dnfdragora, a nice new GUI for DNF. It uses libyui
abstraction to provide native GUI/TUI for GTK+3, Qt and ncurses. The
rich-dependencies ensure that the right libyui bindings get
installed. So an Xfce user would get libyui-gtk while an LXQt user
would get libyui-qt.

So, in concrete terms:

Supplements: dnf and and and (libyui-gtk or libyui-qt)

?

What are the blanks? And the meaning is: this shouldn't show up as
a suggested addition unless those blanks _and_ a libyui of some sort
is already installed (or will be installed)?

Going back to the benefits question: why is this better than including
dnfdragora in the appropriate groups in comps?

Maybe I wrote not detailed enough or even a bit wrong, dnfdragora is
the use-case because it requires libyui and some toolkit binding. But
that stuff where we want to add that is libyui itself. So that the
user gets the libyui bindings matching his desktop environment. So
libyui-qt would supplement libyui and (plasma-desktop or lxqt-session)
for example. Similar with gtk. We want to ensure that the user always
gets the bindings for the toolkit his installed desktops use. So this
is a logic for libyui, not dnfdragora (which is just the application
using it).

For comps: Yes, that is the right place for dnfdragora. It will end up
there with the change we proposed for Fedora 27:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/Replace_yumex-dnf_with_dnfdragora

Christian

Maybe I wrote not detailed enough or even a bit wrong, dnfdragora is the
use-case because it requires libyui and some toolkit binding. But that
stuff where we want to add that is libyui itself. So that the user gets
the libyui bindings matching his desktop environment. So libyui-qt would
supplement libyui and (plasma-desktop or lxqt-session) for example.
Similar with gtk. We want to ensure that the user always gets the
bindings for the toolkit his installed desktops use. So this is a logic
for libyui, not dnfdragora (which is just the application using it).

For comps: Yes, that is the right place for dnfdragora. It will end up
there with the change we proposed for Fedora 27:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/Replace_yumex-dnf_with_dnfdragora

Why call this "Atomic CI"? Can't we call this something better that
reflects that it would be beneficial for the entire distribution,
rather than a small subset of Fedorans working in Project Atomic?

co-owner wanted on wordpress and roundcubemail

Hi,

I try to maintain Wordpress and Roundcubemail,
but I will prefer to have some co-owner on these.

Especially to allow (security) update when I'm offline,
or busy with some important downstream work (PHP).

Feel free to contact me, or request ACL on pkgdb.

Thanks, this put me on the right track for debugging it

And this finally helped me figure out what the problem was.

The problem had nothing to do with the hardening flags at all. For
each binary, LizardFS normally builds a static library that then gets
compiled into the binary.

Fedora's default build flags call for dynamic libraries everywhere, but
that's what caused the bug I was seeing (and doesn't make much sense
anyway, given the context: mfsmetalogger opening the library
mfsmetalogger.so to run?)

Because LizardFS doesn't actually provide any libraries, I've just
passed -DBUILD_SHARED_LIBS:BOOL=OFF and it's fixed.

It turned out that Mailman3 has a preaproved list of senders that contained
the offending address and that is not configurable from web interface. Fedora
infrastructure people fixed it for me. They also removed the message from the

[HEADS UP] F27: Desktop-Environments: replacing Yumex-DNF with DNFDragora, added weak-dependencies to libyui-$UI

2017-04-12 Thread Björn 'besser82' Esser

Hello folks!

For the transition from Yumex-DNF to DNFDragora, I have added the
following weak-deps to the corresponding libyui-$UI packages:

For GTK-based DEs (libyui-gtk):

# For Cinnamon.
Supplements: (libyui%{?_isa} and cinnamon%{?_isa})
# For LXDE.
# For Cinnamon.
Supplements: (libyui%{?_isa} and cinnamon%{?_isa})
# For LXDE.
Supplements: (libyui%{?_isa} and lxsession%{?_isa})
# For MATE.
Supplements: (libyui%{?_isa} and mate-desktop%{?_isa})
# For XFCE.
Supplements: (libyui%{?_isa} and lxsession%{?_isa})
# For MATE.
Supplements: (libyui%{?_isa} and mate-desktop%{?_isa})
# For XFCE.
Supplements: (libyui%{?_isa} and xfdesktop%{?_isa})

For Qt-based DEs (libyui-qt):

# For Hawaii.
Supplements: (libyui%{?_isa} and hawaii-workspace%{?_isa})
# For LXQt.
Supplements: (libyui%{?_isa} and lxqt-session%{?_isa})
# For KDE.
Supplements: (libyui%{?_isa} and plasma-desktop%{?_isa})

If I missed out any DE or there should be changes for the corresponding
DE's package, let me know.

Cheers
  Björn

Does recent Fedora's rpm support nested rich-dependencies like:

Supplements: (pkg_a and pkg_b and pkg_c and (pkg_d or pkg_e))

Is there any way to express a dependency like that?

Yes. Nested rich deps are supported.

Just another question:

Is each line of `Supplements:` being evaled and matched stand-alone?

E.g.:

   Supplements: (pkg_a and pkg_b)
   Supplements: (pkg_a and pkg_c)
   Supplements: (pkg_a and pkg_d)

Would that bring in the package by weak-deps if just one of the specified
supplements is matched?

I think so, yes.

Thank you for the clarification! =)

Fedora CI effort/Interest Group

2017-04-12 Thread Pierre-Yves Chibon
Dear all,

A small team of people interested in working on a Continuous Integration has
started looking into what it would take to add Continous Integration (CI) to our
current packaging and releasing workflow.
The current idea is to use fedora-atomic as a prototype product to port into
this workflow while keeping in mind other use-cases so that we could eventually
use this approach for the entire distribution (as opt-in).

Since there might be more people interested than the people who expressed their
interest, I invite anyone interested to join the mailing list:
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/c...@lists.fedoraproject.org/
and/or the IRC channel: #fedora-ci on irc.freenode.net

We're working to start this with as few changes to the current Fedora
infrastructure as possible. And with a very specific set of requirements.

Ultimately, I hope we can make this workflow work for not only fedora-atomic
(though it is the current target) and this should help improving the stability
of rawhide (and thus will also help the no-more-alpha change proposal [1]).

I have put together a wiki page making this a change proposal:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/FedoraAtomicCI

Thanks for your attention and welcome aboard,

Koji 1.12 will feature dist-repo (what people were calling signed
repos before), which will do the mash stuff in Koji itself.

However, Koji 1.12 isn't released, and quite a bit of work is required
to transition Koji from Yum to DNF, so we aren't likely to use the
feature for now.

Igor,
Do you understand that this sentence  doesn't make any sense to me (at
least) .

First we should use one replacement , *after* the replacement be in
used and prove that is working flawlessly, we may start kill the old
app (in this case mash) .

BTW what is the replacement of mash ?

Best regards,

Hello,

I'm sorry for the Chinese spam sent from a spoofed
address that passed into the list.
It looks like a bug in the Mailman3
system . I added the
address to banned address list, but I don't believe it will help.

Nested rich-dependencies in rpm

2017-04-12 Thread Björn 'besser82' Esser

Hello folks,

I hope someone can help me with the following question:
Does recent Fedora's rpm support nested rich-dependencies like:

  Supplements: (pkg_a and pkg_b and pkg_c and (pkg_d or pkg_e))

Is there any way to express a dependency like that?

Cheers

Anyone to maintain python2-ipython?

2017-04-12 Thread Miro Hrončok

Hi,

IPython is dropping support for Python 2 in it's 6.0.0 release [1],
while the 5.x version remains long term supported with Python 2 support [2].

In order to update the ipython package in Fedora to 6.x, we'd need to
move the python2 bits to a separate package (python2-ipython).

Is there anyone in the SIG, who's willing to maintain the python2
version of ipython? Thanks

Thomas Spura (current owner) and me - we are not interested, see the
relevant BZ for more information [3].

Re: switching libcurl back to OpenSSL and providing the libcurl-minimal subpackage

Anyway, I guess we should move this discussion to some curl- or nss-related

The question remains, if it makes sense to switch back to openssl, if the
consequence is a loss in completeness of certificate trust checking.

I think OpenSSL is committed to fix their library initialization issues.
This would mean that the application is free to use OpenSSL in any way
it sees fit, while using libcurl at the same time.

My understanding is that this is not the case with NSS. libcurl's use
of NSS and what the application does with NSS would be tightly coupled
if libcurl uses NSS. Sometimes, this is desirable, but often, it is not.

Thanks,
Florian
