[Dhis2-devs] I cannot create Data element Categories and Category Combinations

2016-03-08 Thread John Ojo
Hi Everyone,
I have a list of data elements each disaggregated as 'New', 'Repeated'
I have successfully created the category options New and Repeated.

Next, I tried to create a Category into which I hope to add the two category
options. However, when I open the Category page I see that the Category options
selection box is empty and the system processing icon keeps rotating forever
and as such I cannot create the Category.

The same thing happens when I open the Category Combination and Category Option
Combination pages respectively.

I am using DHIS2 Live Version: 2.22, Build revision: 21760 and Build date:
2016-01-15 21:32.

Any help to resolve this would be highly appreciated.

Thank you.John

[Dhis2-devs] No data values found

2014-05-18 Thread John Ojo
Hi Everyone,

I get the message No values found in the Pivot Table and Data Visualizer
applications in dhis2 2.15 when I try to visualize data I have entered into my
database. The Dataset report also draws a blank.

I updated the Data mart before attempting the data visualization.
I have superuser access. I see the data when I open the data entry app and
select any of the Orgunits and the same time period for which data had been
entered.

I would appreciate help to be able to visualize my data values. Currently using
dhis2 version 2.15, build revision:14942 and build date: 2014-04-22 21:38, on a
Windows 7 platform.

Thank you,
John

Hi all,

DHIS version 2.15 is out. We have a great set of new features for you:

- Event reports app: We have a completely new event reports app for
analysis of events. This app lets you do aggregated analysis of events
directly without building aggregation queries and create pivot-style tables,
where you can use data elements as individual dimensions together with
periods and org units. All dimensions can be placed on columns, rows and
filters. The app also lets you query on events using filters on all data
elements, org units or periods. It lets you save tables as favorites and
share them with others. You can also download your favorites to many popular
formats. This app replaces the old tabular reports. You can check it out on
the demo by browsing through all of the favorites.

Documentation | Demo

- Event capture app: A new app for capture of events. This app makes it easy
to capture events efficiently, view the list of events capture so far and
update existing events. It lets you configure and select the columns to show
in the list of events. The app works offline, meaning that you can continue
to enter events even if connectivity drops during your working session.

Documentation | Demo

- Tracked entities: In tracker you can now define any number of tracked
entities, representing things you want to track. Tracked entities can be
commodities, lab samples, buildings, wells, drug batches and persons, or
anything you want. This makes the system more flexible and applicable for
tracking most stuff beyond just persons. A program is associated with one
tracked entity. We hope that you will be creative and take advantage of this
new level of abstraction. You can define tracked entities from persons and
programs tracked entity.

Demo

- Data approval levels: You can now configure the levels for where approval
of data should take place. For instance, you can require that data must be
approved at the facility and provincial org unit hierarchy levels, omitting
approval at the district levels. An approval level requires that the data
must be approval by some user linked to the specific level for it to be
considered valid and be available in data analysis. Approval levels are
configured under settings approval.

Documentation | Demo

- Data approval in analytics: Data approval now takes place in reports
module data approval. Approval of data is now respected in data analytics
tools such as pivot table and visualizer, meaning that data which has not
been approved will not be part of the aggregated values displayed in
reports. This implies that data can be hidden until it has been approved by
the appropriate persons. In other words, the aggregated data in analysis
apps will be based on approved data only.

Documentation | Demo

- Data access control in org unit hierarchy: User's access to data can now
be controlled in the organisation unit hierarchy. This is done by assigning
data view root organisation units per user. The existing association between
users and org units represent access to doing data capture. The new
association for data view organisation units controls for which organisation
units a user can view analytical data in the analysis modules such as pivot
table and visualizer.

Documentation | Demo

- Category option groups and group sets: Category options can now be further
classified by assigning them to category option groups and group sets. An
example where this is useful is when representing various projects as
category options and there is a need to classify these projects by funding
agencies/donors. The group sets are available as dimensions in all data
analysis modules. You set these up from data elements and indicators
category option groups / group sets.

Documentation | Demo

 - Top menu: We have added a new, more flexible top menu. This menu displays
all apps that is available to the current user, including both standard apps
and installed, external apps. It works well

Hi,

first thanks to Jason for the nice work on upgrading our docs.

In this case John its also relevant to look at the new attribute type
categories. The categories as you know them are now referred to as type
disaggregation - the new type is referred to as attribute and should be
linked to a data set.

This allows you to create a category of type attribute called Implementing
Partner, where you can include category options for each of your partners.
Remember to tick use as data dimension and dimension type attribute when
creating the category. Then wrap this category in a category combination also
called Implementing partner and assign this category combination to the data
set where you collect your partner oriented data (in edit data set screen
category combination).

Now when opening data entry you will see that you must, in addition to org
unit/data set/period, select the partner that should be attributed the data,
before the data entry form appears. After entering data and running analytics,
the partner dimension will also become available in pivot table and visualizer
for data analysis.

All this is available in 2.14.

In 2.15 we will introduce more features like access control per category option
(preventing partners to see each others data) and category option groups +
group sets (like Jason indicates, for further classification and analysis of
category options, for instance by funding agency).

We are interested in feedback on these features so let us know how it goes.

regards,

Lars

The problem with the approach which you propose is that the maintenance of the
orgunit hierarchy becomes complicated if you are dealing with a lot of IPs. If
it is a small number, it may be possible, but has proven to be a big headache
in other implementations where this type of information needs to be recorded.

2014-02-20 Thread John Ojo
Hi,

The Combination of categories box on the Edit Data Element page is empty and
not displaying the data element category combination I created.

The following is what I did:

Step 1: Created some data element category options (names of the IPs were the
category options)

Step 2: Created a Category as follows
            Name: Implementing Partner
            Use as data dimension: Checked
            Dimension type: Attribute

Step 3: Created a Data element category combination as follows:

            Name: Implementing Partner
            Dimension type: Attribute
            Selected categories: Implementing Partner

Step 4: Attempted to created a data element. After entering the name and short
name of the data element, I opened the Combination of categories box expecting
to find Implementing Partner listed so I could select it but then found the
Combination of categories box empty (showing only default as its content.

Did I miss any step? Help needed please.

Hi all,

DHIS 2 version 2.13 is out. This release brings some great new features and a
much improved Web API.

(Demo login is admin/district)

- Dashboard: We have a completely new dashboard which brings lots of new
features. It is focused around search - you can use the search area at the top
to look for and include maps, charts, pivot tables, users, reports by clicking
on Add in the search result. You can now have any number of personal
dashboards - for instance can create one for each subject you find interesting
and easily switch between them. You can put any number of items on each
dashboard and drag-and-drop to arrange them in your preferred order. Maps and
pivot tables can now be embedded directly (previously they appeared as links).
Dashboards can be shared with other users or group of users, just like you do

Check it out here.

- Touch-device optimized data visualizer App: We have a new App which lets you
do advanced analysis and visualize your data as a wide range of charts,
including bar, column, line, pie, area. It works similar to current data
visualizer module, only optimized for smartphones and tablets. You can load
any predefined chart and create new charts which later can be saved as
favorites. The app is web-based and therefore completely integrated with the
charts you create in the current visualizer module on the web. It is pretty
cool - try it out on your smartphone or tablet by pointing it to
http://apps.dhis2.org/demo and select smartphone as the log in option, or
directly on the web.

- Apps are now completely integrated in the menu system, both in services
menu and in the system overview page, and are now first-class components in
DHIS 2. On the demo you can check it out by looking for Mobile visualizer.
Apps are light-weight web applications which can be uploaded through the user
interface in the App management module under maintenance. Read more about
the app concept and apps in DHIS 2.

The mobile visualizer app can be downloaded from http://appstore.dhis2.org

- The analysis tools - GIS, visualizer (charts) and pivot table - now feature
more flexible selection of organisation units through three modes. Select the
mode by clicking the gear icon under organisation units. You can select
organisation units by levels, for instance you easily select all facilities in
a province by first selecting the province from the tree, then the facility
level in the level drop-down. You can select organisation units by groups, for
instance you can select a province and then all public facilities inside it.
You can also select multiple organisation units as boundaries in GIS. This
has been harmonized and works similarly across all modules.

Screenshot select by level | select by group

- Data surveillance and alerts: We now have a new component for data
monitoring / surveillance and user alerts. It lets you monitor data, look for
outbreaks and send alerts to users for notifiable conditions like measles,
cholera and yellow fever outbreaks. The solution is an extension of validation
rules - you can set rule type to surveillance (as opposed to validation).
With surveillance rules, you can compare current data on the left side with
previous data on the right side. You can define a sequential sample count
implying the number of preceding values to compare with. You can also define
an annual sample count meaning the number of years to compare for the same
period as the current. The average value will be used and you can define a
number of high and low outliers to be excluded from the average. Monitoring
can be scheduled as a nightly task which checks the data entered since
yesterday from

Hi John,
Not really sure the entire approach makes sense. For the tracker module, you
would typically have a  tracker data element like

Received HIV prevention capacity building through step-down technical
assistance which would be a boolean (True/False). This would represent an
event. Did they receive capacity building or did they not?

If you are registering people  then you would need to register the person
obviously, and provide their gender and something like Affiliation, which
would need to be a Person attribute with Predefined values corresponding to
the options NGO, CBO, . A slightly different but similar approach would
be needed for anonymous events.

In the aggregation query builder, you would then  need to map each of the
different combinations to the correct category option, such as

If Received HIV prevention capacity building through step-down technical
assistance = TRUE AND Gender = Male and Affiliation = NGO were all true,
this would get mapped to the corresponding aggregate data element Number of
individuals who Received HIV prevention capacity building through step-down
technical assistance in the male/NGO category combo option. I

This is how I understand it anyway, but there are others out there who
understand this module better than me. :)

Jason

[Dhis2-devs] Maximum number of Constants

2013-07-06 Thread John Ojo
Hi,

Please, is there a cap on the number of Constants that can be defined in DHIS2
version 2.12? If yes, then what is the maximum number of constants that can be
defined?

A design strategy I am adopting may require me to define some constants and
this may run into a few thousands. Therefore, it is crucial for me to know
before hand if there's a limit on the number of constants I can define before I
embark on my design.

I'm using the live version of DHIS2 on a Windows 7 platform.

Hi John,

there are no constraints on constants.

At the moment constants render in a small list area in indicator
numerator/denominator UI, might be inconvenient to work with but that can be
fixed, let us know.

clear browser cache.

[Dhis2-devs] Tabular Report in Tracker Draws a Blank Page

2013-05-05 Thread John Ojo
Hi Ola,

I have set up the tracker system, have enrolled ten (10) participants and
entered data for each of them. The data entered is based on the personal
attributes for each participant as well as data elements created to capture
details of each training event.

I tried to see a report of these trainings for the participants by selecting
Tabular Report in the Individual Records module but this always draws a (white)
blank page. The text in the address box of the page reads:
http://localhost:8082/dhis-web-caseentry/app/index.html.

Please, is there something I need to do before I can see the tabular reports?

Thank you.

John

Sorry Ola, I missed out the question you posed:

I'd like to know a bit more about the kind of functionality
you want out of this system, the outputs, how you will use the data. That can
help you choose how to structure the transactional data (stages, data elements,
option sets, attributes etc, orgunits).

You are right. My aim is to monitor the training of multiple
health workers over time and get information of what training they have been
through and where and when this took place.

Hi John,

Very good questions.

First I'd like to recommend reading the documentation and use case descriptions
for Tracker here:
http://dhis2.org/tracker

That can help to better understand how Tracker can be implemented to support
various use cases.
Your case is not there, but it is a bit similar to use case 4.

I'd like to know a bit more about the kind of functionality you want out of
this system, the outputs, how you will use the data.
That can help you choose how to structure the transactional data (stages, data
elements, option sets, attributes etc, orgunits).

It sounds like your major use case is to monitor the training of multiple
health workers over time and get information of what training they have been
through and where and when this took place.

For that use case I think you are right in picking the multiple event with
registration type of program. You want to follow individuals over time and add
more data at different points in time, and for this you'll need to register
persons and store the training data as multiple events (program stage instances
in the data model).

The next question is how you organise the data collection. What data will be
collected for the different types of training events? It sounds almost like you
could use the same data entry form for all of them since you are collecting
type of training / level, first time or repeat, location. Since you will
capture the same type of data for all training events you don't need more than
one program stage (event type) for this program. BUt you'll need to repeat
this stage for every training a person goes through, so you need to make this
stage a repeatable stage. There is a property/option called Repeatable in the
Add/Edit Program Stage UI that you need to enable. Then you need to define
the data elements you will collect and for those data elements that need
pre-defined values (e.g. first time, repeat) you need to define option sets
and options (in Maintenance-Data Administration-Option Set).

The type of training could be a data element, maybe with the name Level of
capacity building or Training component, and you link it to an Option Set
training levels with options Capacity building 1, Capacity building 2
etc. If all these are known when you set up the system then fine. If you need
to add more later you can always add a new option to that option set. Be
careful in editing existing options when you already have started collecting
data since these options are stored directly as values (strings) in the
patientdatavalue table and not as a code referencing the option value, so
editing might give you inconsistent data (unless you update existing data
values as well...).

You can follow a similar approach for the repeat/first time data element and
option set.

For the date of the training event I would use the date captured for the
program stage instance (the event). A program stage instance will always have a
report date, which is the date we use when doing aggregation queries on the
transactional data. So no need to create a data element for the date/time
dimension.

Location is more of a discussion point. Obviously you can store the location of
an event as part of the orgunit

Thank you so much Ola.
I tried the temporary fix: Edited my user and assigned only one orgunit, logged

My next challenge is getting DHIS2 aggregate the case-based records into the
aggregating management module of DHIS2. I will provide you with specifics and
more details in a separate mail.

Thank you so much for your kind support.

Hi John,

This seems to be the same problem that I came across on Friday:
- Tabular report does not load when the user has more than one orgunit.

Try this temporary fix:
1) Edit your user and make sure only one orgunit is assigned (e.g the root or
one province or one district, or one clinic..)
2) Log out and log in again
3) Open tabular report

If this doesn't work you could try to log out, clear browser cache and log i
again.

We will try to fix this bug as soon as possible and backport to 2.11.

Another issue related to Tabular Reports is that it depends on the resource
table _orgunitstructure to produce the tabular reports (with orgunit
hierarchies).

If you haven't enabled Scheduling (which automatically re-generates the
resource tables every night before doing all the aggregations) you must
generate this table manually:
1) go to Maintenance-Data administration-Resource Tables, then click on
Select All followed by Generate Tables.

Hope this helps.

Ola

Hi John,

Glad it worked.

To generate aggregate data values you must define queries using the Aggregation
Query Builder (Maintenance-Persons and Programs) and run these queries using
Manual Person Aggregation (Services-Individual Records) or the Automated
Aggregation (Maintenance-Persons and Programs) feature.

There are some aggregation query examples here:

for Tracker here:
http://dhis2.org/tracker

various use cases.

Obviously you can store the location of
an event as part of the orgunit that stores the data. Every event will have an
organisation unit attached to it, so from there you'll get location. If you
have events that take place outside your orgunit hierarchy then you have a few
options. You can capture geo coordinates of the events by enabling the property
Capture coordinates in the Add/Edit Program Stage UI. That would give you
exact locations of each event and the possibility of showing these on a map
(not yet supported in the DHIS 2 GIS module, but will come later). You could of
course also create data elements and option sets for locations, if you have a
short list of locations. The country I would definitely do through the orgunit
hierarchy. If the health workers are organised under local administrative
office (e.g. provinces, districts) you could add these as orgunits as well. But
the training might take place
 outside these offices of course.
Depending on how you'll use this location data in your data analysis and how
your health workers are organised geographically you can find the best approach
among the three location possibilities; 1) orgunits, 2) event coordinates, and
3) data elements.

The Program's Incidence date description is used when you enrol a person into
the program. It is the start date of the program, so

[Dhis2-devs] Help with Tracker

2013-04-23 Thread John Ojo
Hello All,

This is my first time to use the DHIS2 Tracker and would
appreciate your kind support to help me move quickly.
I have read chapter 24 of the DHIS2 manual and things are still not very clear
yet in my head.

I want to use DHIS2 version 2.11 to track certain health
workers. These health workers live in different countries and provide health
services in the country in which they live. My project provides capacity
building to the health workers from time to time depending on when a need for
capacity
building is identified (the periodicity of the capacity building events
therefore,
does not follow predefined regular intervals such as we may have in for e.g.
ANC visits or immunization programs).

The capacity building activities are: CapBuild_1, CapBuild_2,
CapBuild_3, CapBuild_4, CapBuild_5, etc.

Now, for each health worker, I want to be able to track (i.e.
a list showing):
All the capacity building activities received by the health
worker and each capacity building activity showing when (i.e. the date) the
capacity building activity took place, what capacity building was given (i.e.
whether CapBuild_1,
CapBuild_2, CapBuild_3, etc.), where (i.e. country and town) the capacity
building took place and whether that capacity building was first time or a
repeat for the health worker.

Please I will need help with the following:

1.     1. What category options (option set) would be
appropriate for me to create in this scenario?

2.      2. What data elements would I need to create to be
able to capture the capacity building activity data?

3.  3. Apart from biodata information (e.g. name, age,
sex, ID number) of each health worker, what additional demographic information
should I create as attributes for the health worker?

4.  4. I have decided to set up the program as “Multiple
events with registration”. Is this appropriate for my scenario? What would be
an appropriate “Description of incident date”?

5.  5. What are the possible “Different Stages” that would
be most appropriate that I should create for my scenario?

6.  6. When creating the Different Stages of the Program,
what would be most appropriate for the following:

a.   Name:
b.  Schedule days from start:
c.   Auto-generate event
d.  Description of report date

7.   7. Please what should I do next after creating the
different stages?

Thanking you in advance for your time in helping me with this
very long list of questions.

Best regards,
John

Hi all,

DHIS version 2.11 is out and we have some great features for you:

- Web-based pivot table: Allows you to create pivot tables with data aggregated
along all data dimensions, including data element/organisation unit group sets.
Data dimensions can be arranged freely on columns, rows and as filters. You can
include totals and subtotals on all axis and control the table density and font
size under options. Your pivots can be saved as favorites and downloaded to
your local computer. This design goal is to allow users to create their own
reports with the data they need without any involvement of super-users.

A pivot table with immunization indicators for last 4 quarters by facility
ownership, type and location can be made like this (log in with admin/district):

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-pivot/app/index.html?id=XWXTmFUffng

A pivot table with number of diagnosis by facility ownership and type with
totals and subtotals looks like this (notice that diagnosis are data element
groups):

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-pivot/app/index.html?id=vlnZeGhgw1T

A pivot table for vaccines, broken down on categories, age group and point of
service, last 12 months:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-pivot/app/index.html?id=z31v4RMNqnu

A pivot table with reporting rates, major forms for public facilities by
location and type, last 12 months:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-pivot/app/index.html?id=VHewKMjyLnR

We encourage you to play around - select dimension items for the left menu and
arrange dimensions from Layout in the top menu. Documentation can be found
here:

http://dhis2.org/doc/snapshot/en/user/html/ch15.html

- Data analytics Web-API resource: A flexible API for retrieving aggregated,
analytical data for all data dimensions using a simple query syntax. The pivot
table module is built on top of this API. It allows developers of third-party
apps and web portals to connect to DHIS 2 and query for any type of aggregated
data, where any number of dimensions and filters can be specified. Data can be
retrieved in json, jsonp, xml, csv, html and xls (Excel) format and responses
can be constrained with criteria like greater than, equals and so on.

A query for retrieving data for certain data elements, periods and organisation
units might look like this:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/api/analytics?dimension=dx:fbfJHSPpUQD;cYeuwXTCPkUdimension=pe:2012Q1;2012Q2dimension=ou:O6uvpzGd5pu;lc3eMKXaEfw

Documentation can be found here:

http://dhis2.org/doc/snapshot/en/user/html/ch25s18.html

- Sharing: Several objects including chart, pivot table, map, indicator and
data set can now be shared and have fine-grained access control. An object can
be made private to yourself, shared with any number of user groups or be made
available for all. You can grant edit or view-only rights to other people. You
can create user groups directly from the dashboard. Who should be allowed to
create public objects can be controlled through user roles.

This functionality is useful for example in a scenario where entities like
health programs and implementing partners need to create indicators and reports
which should be available only for members of their organisation. In this case,
an organisation can create a user group for their staff, then develop charts
and maps which could be made available for that organisation only. General
reports made by the ministry could still be shared with all and made publicly
available.

Another use-case is that of an international NGO with operations in multiple
countries. Here, user groups could be set up for each country

implement sms in parallel. There are many existing and upcoming features on sms
that may be useful. One is that you can fall back to using sms as a transport
instead of gprs, though gprs works well in most contexts. Additionally, if you
have smaller data sets, these would work well on sms. You can also use sms for
messaging and alerts.
But as your general route for those data sets, j2me is probably the best
option. Note that j2me works best when you buy the phones, so you can test that
it works as expected.

I am yet to assess the phones available on the market. However, it is likely
that the phones will support Java at the minimum. We will also want to
benefit from the offline data entry capabilities of DHIS2 so we will most
likely use phones that support offline storage.

Yes. Could you please kindly explain how this can impact my case if the
 response is yes or no.

Any phone that supports the java-client will also support offline data
entry. Also, newer smartphones supports offline data entry in the browser
(others on the dev/user list might know the exact requirements for the
browser/phone). If offline support is not a requirement, you have the option
of accessing DHIS2 using a mobile browser on a regular non-smart phone. If
you require offline support, the java client or smartphone browser are the

The data is not much. for each data set, we are talking about between 35 to
 40 data elements.

How many data sets? Is there likely to be values for most fields every

every week/month, structured SMS might be an option.

Hi John,

Here are some steps you are supposed to follow:

1. Download the J2ME Aggregate client from http://dhis2.org/downloads
(download the 2.9 version, don't worry, it's compatible with
2.10 server)
2. Configure the server:
- Login to the DHIS2 server
- Go to Maintenance = Mobile Configuration = Dataset for
Mobile
- Assign the datasets you want to send to mobile device
- Check if the mobile user has all of the dataset assign
correctly as well as user role
3. Install the J2ME into your mobile device and login with your
mobile user. Now you should be good to go.

Best regards,
Long

Hi John,
If your computer has a public IP address (unlikely) you will be able to send
data to it, otherwise, it is not possible. as data is transmitted from the
phone through the internet. If you can login to your local computer from the
phone, it will work. But you must have a public IP, or possibly be able to get
to the machine through the same mobile network on a private IP range, but this
again is very unlikely that it would be possible.

that the phones will support Java at the minimum. We will also want to
benefit from the offline data entry capabilities of DHIS2 so we will most
likely use phones that support offline storage.

 - do you require support for offline data entry?

If
you require offline support, the java client or smartphone browser are the
options. Using the browser rather than java-client will likely be easier to
administer, but how important that is depends on how many phones will be
 used.

 - how much data are they supposed to enter? If it is only a few data
elements, the new SMS reporting might be an option.
The data is not much. for each data set, we are talking about between 35 to
 40 data elements.

How many data sets? Is there likely to be values for most fields every
period, or will most of them be blank? If only a few values will be sent
every week/month, structured SMS might be an option.

 Thank you so much.

Hi,
I would also recommend using the j2me, but I think it is a good idea that you
implement sms in parallel.

Subject: [Dhis2-users] DHIS 2 version 2.10 released

Hi all,

DHIS 2 version 2.10 has been released. The major features this time:

- We have included elements from social networking: You can self-register a
user account, create your own profile, post messages and share interpretations.
You can easily search and find other peoples profiles and communicate through
messages.

- A completely new GIS module, rewritten from scratch, which comes with much
faster load time, more intuitive user interface and more features.

- A brand new web-based mobile client with offline support for smartphones. It
lets you enter data, send messages and manage your profile.

All new features:

1. GIS: All map layers can be saved as a single favorites. You can create nice
maps containing multiple layers and save it all together in a single favorite.
You can also share map favorites as interpretations by first loading or saving
a favorite, then clicking share on the top menu. Log in with admin/district:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-mapping/app/index.html?id=m16KunJ3pbi

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-mapping/app/index.html?id=GmIDubfPzCU

2. GIS: Improved favorite user interface with paging and free-text search. You
can rename, overwrite, delete and add the favorite to your dashboard straight
from the list. Click on Favorites in the top menu:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-mapping/app/index.html

Documentation here:

http://dhis2.org/doc/snapshot/en/user/html/ch15.html

3. GIS: Display surrounding areas as circles around facilities in order to
visualize density of facility services:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-mapping/app/index.html?id=y3jLMnZTV6i

4. Web-based mobile client for smartphones: We have a new mobile client which
lets you enter aggregate data, send and receive messages and manage your
profile. The data entry functionality works offline, meaning you only need
connectivity for downloading the data entry forms and submitting data to the
server. In between you can stay offline and enter data for as long as you want.
It is targeted at smartphones with touch-based interfaces, and works on all
Android versions from 2.1 and above. With the rapidly decreasing price on
smartphones this client is a compelling alternative for mobile data entry,
compared with the complexity and issues with compatibility, installations and
upgrade associated with native Java clients.

Check it out by pointing your mobile browser to this link, enter
mobile/district as username/password and select smartphone as mobile version,
then click login:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/

5.  Self-registration of users: Its now possible to let users create their own
user accounts. You can define which user role the system should grant to
self-registered users under system settings. You can get an overview of
self-registered users in the user module, and temporarily disable users if
needed. On the login page, click on Create an account and complete the
account form:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/ (log out first under Profile - Log out)
https://hiskenya.org/dhis-web-maintenance-settings/systemAccessSettings.action

6. User account recovery: Users who forget their password can now restore it
from the login page by clicking on the Forgot password? link. After entering
your username, two emails are sent to the email address registered with the
user account which will guide you through the recovery process. Documentation
here:

http://dhis2.org/doc/snapshot/en/user/html/ch19s02.html

7. Profile page: You can now set up a profile for your user account, including
introduction, job title, nationality, employer, languages and more. Access your
profile directly from the profile link on the dashboard. We have introduced a
new profile top menu item - use it to edit your personal settings, user account
and profile.

https://hiskenya.org/dhis-web-dashboard-integration/profile.action

8. Improved interpretations: You can click on the

[Dhis2-devs] How do I display and update previously entered data in DHIS2 2.9?

2012-09-26 Thread John Ojo
Hi Everyone,

Please, how do I display and update previously entered data in dhis2 version
2.9?

With older versions of dhis2, if one selects an orgunit, a dataset and then the
period for which the data was entered, the data entry form displays showing the
data previously entered and then one can do any modifications to the data.
However, this functionality seems to be broken in version 2.9. - when I select
an orgunit, a dataset and then the period for which I had previously entered
data, the data entry form displays quite alright but with empty fields.

Please, is there something I'm not doing right? I am currently using DHIS2 Live
2.9, build revision: 7893 with MySQL as the backend on a windows platform.

Thanking you in advance for your kind assistance.

John.

Subject: [Dhis2-users] DHIS version 2.9 is released

Hi all,

DHIS version 2.9 is out. We have some exciting new features:

- Individual records (person records module): Improved data entry for
programs with multiple stages. Program stages are listed horizontally
which makes it easy to get the overview and enter data for the various
stages. Check it out by selecting Ngelehun CHC (Bo - Badia -
Ngelehun CHC), list all persons, click program management icon and
enroll for Child health program.

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-caseentry/patient.action

- Individual records: We now have tree types of programs: 1) Multiple
events with person registration (e.g. child immunization). 2) Single
events with person registration (e.g. death certificates). 3) Single
events without registration (e.g. inpatient morbidity and mortality
registration). Each program has its own, dedicated page in the
individual records module. The new page for single events with
registration allows you to register a person and doing data entry for
a program in the same screen. Notice also the speed improvement and
how 14,000 ICD codes can be quickly searched in the form. Check it out
here (select Ngelehun CHC and Death program, then click Add new):

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-caseentry/singleEventSelect.action

- Individual records: Tabular report is a lot faster. You can do
analysis on person identifiers, attributes and data element values,
which can later be saved as favorites:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-caseentry/app/index.html

- Individual records: New screen for doing data entry for multiple
persons and their program stages in one go. Example here (select
Ngelehun CHC):

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-caseentry/multipledataEntrySelect.action

- Interpretations: You can now share your interpretation of data from
the data visualizer and report table module. In data visualizer, load
a favorite and click Share. In report table, generate a report and
click Share from the top menu. The interpretations can be commented
on and appears in the dashboard:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-dashboard-integration/interpretation.action

- Data visualizer, free period selection of fixed periods: You can now
select any fixed periods for a chart. Useful e.g. when you want to
look at legacy data which falls outside the relative periods. Use the
Fixed periods tab to the left. Example:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-visualizer/app/index.html?id=PuvO0syzFoz

- Data visualizer, option for going back one period for relative
periods. When looking at trend lines or charts for the last month one
problem is that data is not available until after a few weeks, which
renders the charts unusable. Now you can click Rewind one period
under relative periods in order to leave out the last period. Example:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-visualizer/app/index.html?id=PaszHM9rIGA

- Improved dashboard: The dashboard now automatically re-sizes itself
and the number of charts on the page after the current screen size.
The left side menu has been removed to make more space for the
interesting part:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-dashboard-integration/index.action

- Report table plugin: Insert report tables directly or provide links
to them on any web page using this new client-side plugin. Example:

http://apps.dhis2.org/portal/table.html

Documentation:

http://dhis2.org/doc/snapshot/en/user/html/ch22s14.html

- Carousel plugin: Insert visualizer charts in a carousel to create
attractive front pages on your web site. Example:

http://apps.dhis2.org/portal/carousel.html

Documentation:

http://dhis2.org/doc/snapshot/en/user/html/ch22s13.html

- Integration module: We now have a component for managing most
integration scenarios between systems. It complements the Web API by
providing the means to consume services from other applications and
perform transformations on data through flexible routes, which can be
timers, HTTP client requests, transformations, message, processors,
loggers and more. Documentation of this component comes tomorrow.

- Data entry, option for allowing/denying data entry for future
periods. Disallowing future periods is useful for prohibiting users to
enter data erroneously for the current period. Allowing future periods
is useful for data like population and annual targets and plans. See
e.g. Population and ART monthly data sets:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-dataentry

[Dhis2-devs] How to disable modules in DHIS2

2012-05-23 Thread John Ojo
Dear Lars,

I have an urgent need to disable two modules from our implementation of DHIS2.
The modules are:

Please, what do I need to do to achieve this?  I have attached a screenshot

Can the ability to disable modules (that one does not need) be incorporated

Re: [Dhis2-devs] [Dhis2-users] DHIS version 2.8 released

2012-04-30 Thread John Ojo
I remember vividly, with some nostalgia, my first encounter with the DHIS
application way back in 2005. Then, it was DHIS 1.x and it was a great app by
every standard of the day, way back then.

Now, comparing that app with what we have today in DHIS2 v 2.8, with all the
fantastic features wired and woven into it, shows a software that has really
come of age and only bears testimony to the hard work and determination of the
DHIS developers team (and the community too) to making DHIS2 the best HMIS tool
one can find anywhere.

Guys, I doff my hat and I say BRAVO!

John.

Subject: [Dhis2-users] DHIS version 2.8 released

Hi all,

DHIS version 2.8 is release. The news this time is:

- Data visualizer plugin: Plugin for embedding the dynamic charts you see in
Data Visualizer module directly in Web pages. Data is loaded from the DHIS
back-end server. Example here:

http://apps.dhis2.org/portal/plugin.html

Documentation here:

http://dhis2.org/doc/snapshot/en/user/html/ch24s07.html

- Tracker tabular report: Interactive analysis tool for all types of tracker
data. Can display data element values and beneficiary attributes and
identifiers. Lets you filter on any of the columns in a table and download the
data to Excel and PDF. Follows the same user interface principles as Data
Visualizer module. Check it out here, for instance by selecting the Delivery
returns program, selecting org unit and data elements and clicking Update:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-caseentry/app/index.html

(Demo login is admin/district)

- Search and browse beneficiary history: See the complete history of a
beneficiary from programs and single events by clicking on the blue info icon
in the list of beneficiaries. See it here by going straight down in the org
unit tree and selecting the first facility:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-caseentry/patient.action

- Dedicated import-export function for data values: You no longer risk messing
up your meta-data when doing data value import. Data values are now matched on
the stable identifiers of the meta-data (like data elements and org units).

This means that you can safely import data as records will either be imported
if they match your meta-data or ignored if not. It also means that remote
systems can change the names of data elements and org units and still be able
to exchange data values with the central system - records are matched on the
stable identifiers which cannot be changed in the user interface. See the demo:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-importexport/displayImportDataValueForm.action?importFormat=xml

- CSV data value import-export: Data can be imported and exported using the CSV
format (as well as the DHIS XML format called DXF). This provides an easy way
to bootstrap DHIS systems from external sources and achieve interoperability
with legacy systems as CSV is very widespread and is easy to contstruct
manually. Check it out here:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-importexport/displayDataValueExportForm.action

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-importexport/displayImportDataValueForm.action?importFormat=csv

Documentation here:

http://dhis2.org/doc/snapshot/en/user/html/ch18s04.html

- Cumulative values in report tables: For each column you can include a
cumulative value column by ticking Include cumulative in the add report table
screen. This enabled you to make nice progress reports like this:

- Reporting rates aggregation over time: The data mart process is now producing
aggregate reporting rates over time. This means for instance that you can get
quarterly and yearly reporting rates for monthly data sets in reports, such as
the one below. Reporting rates are also aggregated in parallel processes which
means performance scales almost linearly with the available processor cores on
your server.

- Org unit group set analysis in Data Visualizer: You can now do analysis on
groups and create charts based for instance on facility type and ownership. In
the organisation unit tab select a group set (e.g. Type) from the group set
list and then the parent organisation unit. An example is here:

Hi John,

thank you for your comments.

Please note that the relative period Last month is the same as the
old Reporting month - it is just a slight change in labeling. So you
can use Last month in the same way you used Reporting month.

What we have removed in DV from the old chart in user interface is the
ability to insert custom, fixed periods. The thinking behind this is
that fixed periods have a big drawback in that they will quickly
become outdated and you will constantly have to update your chart as
time goes by. But we realize the need for it and we have got this
feedback from other sources too so we will make a function for it,
hopefully for 2.8 if not for 2.9.

In the meantime, if you urgently need a specific chart you can resort to

1) in DV select period as the series dimension and select Last 12
months as the period. After generating the chart you can click on the
series labels to remove the series (periods in your case) you don't
want.

2) create a report table, select indicators/org units as usual, click
Toggle fixed periods and select the specific periods you want. Then
generate the report table, pull the report table JRXML into iReport
and design your chart there.

Will get back to you with more information later.

[Dhis2-devs] Please where is Reporting Month in DV?

2012-03-13 Thread John Ojo
Hi All,

The options available under Relative Periods in the Charts Module of dhis2
version 2.5 and earlier versions include a very useful option named 'Reporting
Month'. I noticed this option is absent in dhis2 from version 6 upwards.
Instead, the Periods options in the data visualizer (DV) - which is a
replacement for Charts - has as its options: Last month and Last 12 months as
the only two options under Months.

The absence of 'Reporting Month' as an option under periods in DV makes it a
bit difficult to create nice looking charts with data that are collected on
monthly basis (I may be wrong). In our project, data is reported into our dhis2
database by our partners on monthly basis. With dhis2 version 2.5, I can create
a data element by period chart and then select 'Reporting month' as my relative
period and the chart comes out neatly with the values of the data element for
each of the months I have data in the database plotted.

This is not the case in dhis2 version 7. Here, I am limited to 'Last month' and
'Last 12 months'. So let us assume I have data for April, May, June, July and
Aug in my database (because our partners started reporting in April). Let us
also assume we currently are in the month of September. Now, I need a bar chart
showing my data (represented by five bars) from  April to August and nothing
more. Which of the options under Periods in DV will I select in order to have
this bar chart showing my data from April to August?  I am asking this question
because if I select 'Last month' as the period, it obviously will not show all
the five bars I want to see. Likewise, if I select 'Last 12 months' as the
period, DV will plot my five bars quite all right but with additional periods
Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar (in order to make up to 12 data points) and all
the additional (unwanted) months will have zero data values (because there is
no data in the database for
these months). Or, must I do things differently to have my five bars in the
bar chart? If yes, then I would appreciate some help with this. If not, then if
it is possible to bring back 'Reporting month' as an option under periods in
DV, then we need 'Reporting month' as urgently as last month! :)

Subject: [Dhis2-users] DHIS version 2.6 released

Hi all,

DHIS version 2.6 is released. We have a long list of improvements:

1. A new Web API module which provides read access to most objects in
the system and read access to data values and messages: All resources
are uniquely identified by URLs and have a rich set of representation
formats; currently HTML, XML, JSON and JSONP. The resources are linked
and navigable meaning that you can easily move between related
resources using hyperlinks (for instance from the list of data sets to
one particular data set, then to one particular data element). Certain
resources (map, chart, report, report table and resource) have a
special view of the aggregate data (rather than the meta-data info)
which can be accessed by appending /data to the URL.

The primary purpose of the Web API is to make DHIS suitable as a
platform for third-party software clients and systems such as Web
portals, content management systems, dashboards and mobile device
clients. It provides a machine-readable API from where such clients
can retrieve the desired data over the well-known HTTP protocol,
without need for any knowledge of the DHIS internal technologies and
implementation. You can explored it here:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/api/resources
http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/api/charts/j1gNXBgwKVm
http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/api/maps/H6jRsZXfDAp

A small demo on how reports, charts and maps produced by DHIS can be
embedded in a Web portal can be found here:

http://dhis2.org/portal

A more detailed write-up of the purpose and context of the Web API can
be found here:

http://dhis2.org/doc/snapshot/en/implementer/html/full.html#d5e1545

2. Saved charts in data visualizer module: After creating a chart and
data table you can now save it as a favorite by clicking on the
Favorites button in the top menu, then on Manage favorites. This
makes it easy to later reload your chart and also put it on your
personal dashboard in the dashboard module. Favorites can be saved as
personal or system views (if user is authorized). This means that
users can create their own personal charts without affecting the list
of charts for other users.

The old chart user interface in reporting module has been removed -
the data visualizer module is now the place to create charts. Please
note the new Chart options panel on the left menu - all options from
the old charts are there but at the moment only implemented in the
image  version of the charts (accessible from the dashboard). We will
soon implement these options in the client-side charts in data
visualizer module in order to make both versions compatible.

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-visualizer/app/index.html

http://dhis2.org/doc/snapshot/en/user/html/full.html#d927e2985

3. Anonymous events: The beneficiary module now provides functionality
for registering anonymous events. Use-cases for such events are birth
certificates, nutrition surveys and inpatient morbidity/mortality
registries. Data for any number of data elements can be defined and
registered for a single event (no attributes).

Programs must be marked as single event and anonymous in
beneficiary module. Under Event registration in data records module
you can register the anonymous events. Start by clicking on Create
new event, then fill the entry form before clicking Complete data
entry.

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-caseentry/anonymousRegistration.action

(Select e.g. the first facility in the tree, Ngelehun CHC.)

4. Organisation unit group set analysis in data mart and report table:
The data mart engine now produces two new data mart tables for data
element and indicator data aggregated by organisation unit groups. In
more detail, for all organisation units there are records for all
organisation unit groups. This feature has currently been implemented
in the report table tool. You can include groups by clicking on
Toggle organisation unit groups in the add new report table screen.
We will implement support for groups in most analysis tools for next
release. Please note that only groups which are members of a group set
will be included.

This feature is particular useful for doing analysis based on facility
classification such as type and ownership; for instance you can now
investigate the immunization rates in public, private and faith-based
facilities within a province and see how they compare. It can also
support scenarios where donors want to analyse and compare the
performance of their implementing partners

Hi John, thanks for the quick response. Please see my comments below.

Hi Lars,

The data visualizer looks great. Would like to suggest the following:

1. Please kindly remove the data visualizer from among the options for Start
page under the Appearance settings page. This is because,
like we had in the past with the GIS module, the data visualiser loops
back to itself and effectively locks the user out from being able to     exit
from the data visualizer once it is selected as the start page. You may try it
and see.

2. Ability to insert charts drawn in the data visualizer into the dashboard.

Yes, we are planning a new dashboard and this is the main reason.

3. Chart Title (and may be sub-title) for the data visualizer charts.

The ExtJS chart engine does not offer a dedicated title option, but I just
found a way to work around it so this will be available in trunk shortly.
Currently, the chart title is simply displayed on the toolbar, next to the
update button.

4. The Chart Type buttons/icons on the top-left portion of the data visualizer
window don't seem to do anything. Would like to see the
Example chart change to reflect the user's choice when any of the chart
type icons is selected.

The visualizer is designed to be as network friendly as possible. That's why
the chart type buttons don't execute anything (just think of them as a way to
select the chart type). The chart is not updated unless the user specifically
clicks the update button. Otherwise, if the user e.g. wants a different chart
type and different indicators, and selects the chart type first, the chart is
unnecessarily updated (and data transferred) twice.

5. The message in the information box eg. 'No data values',  'Form is not
complete', that appears when one clicks the Update button
is too short (and cryptic). We should consider adding more details as to
what the user should do to get the visualizer display the chart
    depending on the circumstance.

Improved notifications is already on the 2.6 roadmap. In trunk the Form is not
complete is replaced by something a bit more informative, like No indicators
selected, No data elements selected etc, but this will definitely be
improved further.

These are the few that readily comes to mind. May add more as I take the data
visualizer through much deeper tests.

Please feel free to provide feedback any time.

Thank you so much to all the developers for making our lives easier with DHIS2.

Hi all,

now that you have had some time to get familiar with the new data
visualizer module we are interested in getting feedback and
suggestions for improvements based on real use-cases.

You can explore the module here:

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-visualizer/app/index.html

So far through various channels we have received the following:

1. Integrated table of data listing what is currently displayed in the
chart (already implemented in trunk).

2. Saved chart views which can later be easily re-visited.

3. Export of chart views to PNG for download.

We encourage you to suggest new features accompanied with an

Hi Jjohn,

You can very easily update DHIS2 Live yourself:

As you have already noted, the DHIS2 Live application does not change
much, just the version of DHIS2 that is included.

1) Stop DHIS2 Live
2) Go to your dhis-live\webapps\dhis folder and delete everything
3) Download the newest dhis2.war file from http://dhis2.org/downloads
and put it in the newly emptied folder above
4) Rename the file to dhis2.zip and unzip it

You have now updated DHIS2 Live.

There is a small bash script which I know at least Lars and I use,
which automates this process of deleting, unzipping etc.  Handy during
development when you quickly want to deploy a new war on to dhis-live.
But others might find different ways to use it.  I've attached it
here.  It is really basic so could pretty easily be turned into a
windoze bat file.  Probably using unzip.exe from www.info-zip.org.

 Knut
PS You can also get the very latest build of trunk from the following
link, but it is not an official release and has not been properly
 tested.
 http://apps.dhis2.org/ci/job/dhis-web-trunk/lastSuccessfulBuild/artifact/dhis-2/dhis-web/dhis-web-portal/target/dhis.war

 Hi Lars,
Please when can we expect to see the definitive version 2.5 of DHIS 2
 Live.
The current version from the DHIS2 download site is the 2.5-SNAPSHOT
 version.
I ask this in view of the modifications earlier announced as haven been
effected in the DHIS 2 WAR-file version 2.5 since its release.
 Thank you.

2011-11-03 Thread John Ojo
Thank you so much Jo. I've started the download
from: http://dhis2.org/download/releases/trunk/.
Two quick questions though:
1. How frequent would you advise that one does downloads from here
(http://dhis2.org/download/releases/trunk/) and
2. How can I know for sure that the download I do today (for example) is
different from the one I did say three days previously from
     http://dhis2.org/download/releases/trunk/ ?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.

The latest succesfull build of the trunk war is always available from here:

It used to be linked from the downloads page, I think, but was probably removed
when jenkins was down..

Hi John, sorry for potential confusion but we definitely do not
recommend using the latest development version for production
environments. We are releasing every second month and the stable
releases are maintained with bugfixes. The date next to the release on
http://dhis2.org/downloads indicates when it was last updated.

Re: [Dhis2-devs] [Dhis2-users] DHIS 2 version 2.4 released

2011-08-29 Thread John Ojo
Hi Lars and Team,

Congratulations to you all for this wonderful job. We really appreciate your
continued effort at making DHIS 2 better by the day.

I would like to draw your attention to the Data Entry Form Management Module.
The module seems broken in DHIS2 version 2.4.

When you click on the 'Design data entry form' button on the Dataset management
screen in order to open and edit an existing customized data entry form, or to
create a new customized data entry form for a dataset you have just created,
you see the following:

1. The existing data entry form does not appear.
2. A re-sizable blank box titled 'Design data entry form' appears on the screen
but no CKEditor controls for designing the form.

3. An empty selection box is displayed. The box is not populated with either
the Data elements nor Indicators associated with the dataset

Waiting to hear from you soon.

John.

Subject: [Dhis2-users] DHIS 2 version 2.4 released

Hi all,

we have released DHIS 2 version 2.4. The news this time:

- Offline data entry: The data entry module - if opened when online -
is operational even without Internet connectivity. Data can be entered
and stored locally while being offline and uploaded to the central
server when online. This means that the online deployment strategy
will be more viable in areas with unstable Internet connectivity. The
total bandwidth usage is greatly reduced since forms no longer are
retrieved from the server for each rendering. For more info on this
feature, read the archive:
https://lists.launchpad.net/dhis2-users/msg00468.html

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-dataentry/index.action

- New Symbol layer in GIS: Data can be visualized as symbols rather
than colors. The menu system has been improved to allow more space for
the map itself and to emphasize the opportunity to load maps into
separate layers to produce more advanced map views.

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-mapping/index.action

- Improved data mart performance: Now scalable on the number of CPU
cores providing a near-linear performance boosts as new cores are
added - for instance the processing time for our benchmark database on
a quad-core processor was reduced to close to 1/4.

- Modal dialogs: All popups in the system have been replaced by modal
dialogs - this has proved to be less confusing to inexperienced users.

- Conversations: The messaging system is now organized around
conversations, making it easy to see the full history of an
interaction between a super-user and an end-user for instance.

http://apps.dhis2.org/demo/dhis-web-dashboard-integration/message.action

the DHIS 2 development team

[Dhis2-devs] [Bug 602701] [NEW] Setting Start Page to GIS makes the dhis2 menu inaccessible

2010-07-07 Thread John Ojo
Public bug reported:

Setting Start Page to GIS makes the DHIS 2 menu inaccessible. This is
because when you click on the Exit GIS button on the GIS page, the
software attempts to take you back to the DHIS 2 main menu page but then
it immediately returns to the GIS page again effectively locking you
onto the GIS page and then you're stuck! Is there a way to regain
control from this error otherwise I will suggest GIS be removed from the
available options in the Start Page.
