Re: [digitalradio] Inexpensive digital mode interfaces with LINUX ?

2009-10-15 Thread Per
Actually I think its easier to reverse the question and try to find what does
not work with linux.
I suppose someone will reply with some horror story now but I have yet to find
a problem.
I use this one:http://www.cgantenna.be/sb2000.html
My pskmail server is using this:
http://ham.srsab.se/pdf/MISC/digi-testbericht.pdf

The first does have USB and provides CAT/CI-V (or whatever they choose to call
it).

Does anyone know if there are inexpensive digital
mdoe interfaces that work under Linux, have a usb conenctor, and provide
CAT rig control ? I have a good inertface but it supports Windows
only. For some upcoming projects I would like to have one that works under
Linux. I was looking at the Donner digital interfaces but it is not clear
if they require software that works with Windows or they are
multi-platform

plan B would be to look at a rig which will operate without an interface. I
am using the TS480SAT direct from data port to

computer. Windows required for rig control, RS232 connection to rig

Andy:

I have been using Donner's for over 3 yrs and it works just fine on linux (my
laptop is running Debian Lenny). I use it primarily for digital modes (psk,
rtty, olivia etc) - not for CAT. Mine has a serial port interface - maybe the
newer ones have a USB.

Hi Andy, I have the donner rig and digital interface for my IC-738 but I use XP
because my main program is HRD (This is my 6th one). Send Whitey or Carol a
message and ask them, I am sure they give you a quick answer. They have great
service after the sale, and they are true plug-n-play.

[digitalradio] jPSKMail client ver 0.3.8 ready

2009-10-15 Thread Per
Hi all,

The jPSKMail client version 0.3.8 is ready for download!

Where can I download?

At the moment its available here:
 http://www.crusefalk.se/jpskmailinstall/
and should soon be available from a better mirror here:
http://pskmail.wikispaces.com/Download

There are three versions to choose from:

One for linux: jpskmail-0.3.8-Linux-x86-Install
One for windows: jpskmail-0.3.8-Setup.exe
One for Macs, BSD, Solaris etc: jpskmail-0.3.8.zip

The windows installer does its work by double clicking it on the desktop.

You will have to make the sure the linux installer is executable, either right
click on it and set that under properties or use the command line ('sudo chmod
+x ').

Then double click on it.

The zip is intended for all other platforms (that can run java and where fldigi
is available), just unzip it and launch the javapskmail.jar.

Prerequisites:

jPSKMail needs Fldigi3.10 (or better), you will have to install that. Try to
use the binary from the fldigi website first, it will work in most cases. To
run
the java client you must have the java runtime environment installed (1.5 or
better).

What has changed?

Just to name a few changes and features:
- Its now possible to handle compressed email, this increases speed and makes
that sensitive email slightly less obvious...
- Twitter support now uses "pskmail", subscribe to that to get all the tweets
- More modes supported, a whole lot of them
- Connected session improvement, significant improvements including handling of
timing for faster & slower modes (vk2eta has provided much input there).
- Heard servers fill the list of known servers, now also when a ping is
answered.
- Some minor GUI adjustments including keyboard shortcut for user registration
- bugfixes...

Thanks to all the contributors, testers, users!
