[digitalradio] Re: Nominations for 2009 Digitalradio Awards needed

2009-12-08 Thread kb2vmg
I second Simon's nominations of the WINMOR team and Patrick. I also believe
that Simon should receive a life-time achievement award for all of his many
contributions not least of which has been HRD/DM780. HRD/DM780 has offered many
new hams world-wide an easy and friendly way to access almost every digital
mode in use today. I am sure that the popularity of all of the digital modes
is due in great part to Simon's work over the years.

[digitalradio] Re: Interface within the rig?

2009-12-08 Thread ALE
Hi Andy,

That began last year when ICOM came out with te IC-7200 and its USB CODAC
support, I worked with an overseas ham running an HFN ALE station and added the
needed support to MARS-ALE and later PC-ALE for the '7200 as you must use UBB-D
(LSB-D) to used the CODEC and he has been running with it ever since. Just the
one USB connection to provide the radio CAT control and audio channels between
the radio and PC, the same is true of the latest models with that support from
ICOM.

While reading Steve Ford's QST review of the Microham USB interface, I

I also began to wonder when we might see transceiver manufactures
including this circuitry within a rig? Just connect a USB cable to
the rig, hook audio cables from rig to PC, and off you go. Isolation
 circuits are reading established.

Hi John,

With PC-ALE/MARS-ALE when attended, all you need to do is click on the
RESOURCES button to release the PC Sound Device and radio serial port so that
another program can make use of them after an ALE inlink state is started to
maintain the link or if you are not linked an want to keep the program running
while not scanning and switch to another non-ALE mode. In MARS-ALE you can
configue in different ways for an automatic transitions as well.

The recent surge in RSID use is really due to its excellent implementation in
 HRD 5.0.

Sorry to be a pedant but this is becoming an issue, HRD isn't a digital
modes program but DM780 is. They might both come shipped under one
package, but it is important to recognise what each program is doing and
HRD is the Computer Control, or CAT if you prefer, program that also
supports and interfaces to some other programs within the suite of
programs which can be used as stand alone programs in their own right,
it doesn't send or receive digital modes in itself.

Simon has put in a lot of work on HRD and DM780 but it is important to
recognise what each program does as we, on the HRD forum, are getting
people asking why HRD wont 'work' with their interface/PC when they
should be using DM780.

Thanks

[digitalradio] A jolly good idea !

2009-12-08 Thread raf3151019
I agree, its about time somebody invented an automatic overdrive controller for
PSK transmissions. I don't listen to them though, I switch the sound off, but
seeing them is more than enough for me !
