Such 'tradition' (like the non-biding vote at Apache for example), is
a matter of collective culture, something that evolve organically
by tacit consensus... over time.

You may have noticed that there is no 'biding -'1 in the current vote
so far (unless I missed one)

I currently count 2. But am no expert for Apache procedures either.

I count three. Decisions such as this one are by majority rule.
Overview of the process here:

A full detail of the results of the vote will posted in about 27 hours.

Hi Uwe,

Adabas was bundeled only with StarOffice (never with OOo) - it was one
of the Add-Ons Star Office had (besides more Gallery entries,
templates and better spell checking then OOo) in former times. In
former times refers to OOo 1.* when OOo has no official (=Sun/Star
Office) Version for Macs; so Adabas connection/driver never had a need
 for Mac support by Sun.

That would explain why I had it for several years, since I decided to
pay for StarOffice through most of its commercial versions, even after
OOo had been launched. At the time I wasn't on the Mac platform though.

Meanwhile Adabas is a legacy product. I wonder if anyone uses it in a
productive environment. Surely not on a Mac.

As has been said - whoever need this can stick on an older OOo Version.

I think François has already proposed a patch in master on the developer
list for the config scripts to no longer build the Adabas driver
component module.

I confirm it.
And let me add this is the legacy Adabas D driver we're talking about;
Star/Open/LibreOffice never had a native Adabas driver to begin with.

The choice of names is really confusing but Adabas D and Adabas are different
products from the same company; I've changed the subject accordingly.

[tdf-discuss] Share Libraries with Apache OpenOffice

2011-06-12 Thread Samuel M
Hi folks,
I want to share an idea with you.

I know that there will be no union of LO and OO, but I think it is an advantage
for both projects to have some general Libraries developed together.

As a sample I think of GTK, which in its beginning was only a Toolkit developed
for GIMP, but nowadays is used by Gnome, Xfce and many others.

So I think it would be good if some parts of LO/OOo were developed together
with Apache where no different goals exist. I understand that this won't work
for the core modules like Writer, Impress, Calc, etc. But what about the Window
toollkit and the import/export filters?

Whether this development can happen under the hood of Apache or TDF has to be
discussed then, but what do you think about the general idea?

I'll just add the point from a philosophical standpoint that almost more
than enabling all humans to create documents (presos etc.), is enabling
humans to work together.

Even better if it was on the web so that documents could be created
collaboratively ;-)

Pity we couldn't get LO and OOo to cooperate to establish one project to
carry on with the desktop project and another to develop a web based project
to rival and improve on Google Docs.
