Re: [IxDA Discuss] IxD blog aggregator site - are you interested in contributing?
I actually like that idea.. rather than an aggregator, which doesn't help you filter, we could have a Design is Kinky or K10K type site for UX/IxD. A curated aggregator as it were... or is there already a site like this that i'm forgetting? On Tue, Feb 17, 2009 at 6:36 PM, J. The reason I mention it is that I think it would be better as a group effort, so if you've been meaning to set up a blog for talking about such things but haven't gotten around to it and would be interested in an open group blog format, I'd be very glad to repurpose it for multiple authors. It'd certainly be a better resource with more brains involved.. if anyone out there still doesn't have a blog for this. ;-) Not quite the same as an aggregate feed, but it's open for anyone who wants to join in. Just ping me off list if you're interested. -ambrose -- Matt Nish-Lapidus -- personal: mat...@gmail.com twitter: emenel Welcome to the Interaction Design Association (IxDA)! I'd throw in a YES too and strongly dispute the waste of time proposition. Planet sites serve a variety of purposes for different audiences. Two of my favorites are:http://planet.socialmediaresearch.org/ http://planet.mozilla.org I would encourage folks submitting RSS to use a targeted category feed if their content varies across topics. The UX Digg notion is a nice one and can sit on top of a planet system. Drupal, tricked out with a number of popular mods, can serve this function very well. -Andy My personal planet: http://friendfeed.com/andyed On Wed, Feb 18, 2009 at 9:36 AM, Mary Specht mspe...@gannett.com wrote: Harry, I'll throw in my yea vote. Re: [IxDA Discuss] IxD blog aggregator site - are you interested in contributing?
The reason I voted waste of time is not hap-hazzard. It is based in my experience. I got way too much redundancy between my own feed agregation and by having feed aggregators out there. I get this still here and there, but often now I use the redundancy as a sorta ad hoc digg effect. But with planet systems, the redundancy was just way too annoying. -- dave . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [IxDA Discuss] IxD blog aggregator site - are you interested in contributing?
Hi IxDa people, Is anyone interested in the idea of adding their blog to a IxD community aggregator site, in the same vein as http://www.brightonnewmedia.org/ ? I've noticed many IxDA types have their own blogs, and write great articles - but they post infrequently, myself included. I know RSS should make this idea defunct, but I'm thinking it might be a nice idea to bring these disparate posts and people together. If you're interested, follow this link and fill in your blog details: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=p27oWwqQa9clXPH4PjWQqDg If we end up with a decent list of blogs, then we can expect the site to appear in the next month or so. Remember, if you blog about UX once in a blue moon and normally blog about your pet cat, you can still participate by tagging your posts appropriately and giving us an RSS feed of just your UX posts. Alternatively, if you think it's a terrible idea, or if it's already been done, do let me know! Harry -- http://www.90percentofeverything.com Welcome to the Interaction Design Association (IxDA)! I recently joined IxDA, and i really like the discussions going on here. I personally like the way discussion has been structured on this website. Although my last post didnt get any comments, but i happen to think that the blogs would overshadow the discussion/one on one interactions taking place here. In anycase, if the community in the end decides to propose their blogs , i would like to have the blog of the project i am working on :-) Nikhil http://www.itsme.it/ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Nikhil, I agree, the quality of the discussions on the IxDA mailing list are outstanding. Just to clarify, this site would not have any formal affiliation with IxDA. It will simply be a site somewhere else on the web where people can add their rss feeds to a 'river of news'. I thought it might be useful to newcomers to the field, people who aren't big RSS-heads, and so on. Harry Welcome to the Interaction Design Association (IxDA)! Hi Harry, Thanks for clarifying. In that case its a great idea. In my project blog http://www.itsme.it/ well as of now its kinda institutional, but we are trying to upgrade the website into a more interactive one, with a blog type forum to encourage developer communities and interaction design community to get together and discuss about interactive systems etc. Lets see how it goes. We plan to get online in the month of march. And i think it will be great to direct posts focusing on UX to the collaborative blog site you are talking about. Re: [IxDA Discuss] IxD blog aggregator site - are you interested in contributing?
Harry, I think your first instinct that RSS makes it a waste of time is on target. I live through Google Reader. What WOULD be interesting is vetting feeds and articles that I don't subscribe to. A digg for interaction design might be more interesting. ONe of the features I love in Google Reader is the Friends' share list I see the items that people decide to add to their share feed directly in my feed. I learn so much from that. On a separate note, I've heard a couple of times this year (so not that many people) that some people are leaving RSS and just using twitter. I.e. if it is suggested on twitter than it is OK to look at, otherwise the blog universe is just way too big to manage (so they say). Anyway, it just goes to demonstrate how personal information management really is. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
