Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] OSGeo 2021 Elections

2021-11-15 Thread Luigi Pirelli via Discuss
I still can find charters member without any presentation or CV. Do we have
to allow nominating someone that do not want to present himself?

I can find some that I know for their code contribution but without any
osgeo profile. I wouldn't vote aoyone wthout presentation.

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] FOSS4GUK Online

2020-05-14 Thread Luigi Pirelli
FYI online webinars organised dy QGIS mexico user groups have the
following setup (all video are available here
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwd223Om2zRQdsU1ghRz_zQ/videos yesterday
live is https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwd223Om2zRQdsU1ghRz_zQ/videos)

- Jitsi meet for speakers
- a Streamer person to who all speakers ar connected with Jitsi meet.
- The streamer person, with a good laptop and good upload network, use OBS
to stream his jitsi window + audio directly to a video streaming platform
(they use youtube)
Attenders chat and interact using the streaming platform chat, but they can
use telegram or something else, but having in the same streaming platform
can allow playback having chat recorded
- Every one can enter in jitsi meet (e.g voice questions with or without
video) just rising hand => the moderator (e.g. the streamer person) pass
him the conference link (shared privatly) to connect to the conf.
- an alternative audio setup with really low latency just for question and
discussion is using mumble.

IMHO for a conference there are really good FOSS alternatives to Zoom o
other proprietary stuffs.

We (Spanish QGIS user group) are plannign AGM next month using similar
setup... adding voting stuffs or via Telegram/polls or via others as
star.vote...

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] How big is OSGeo?

2019-09-06 Thread Luigi Pirelli
IMHO not at all... using mailing list is an "old way" to manage a
community. Fortunally or Unfortunally, most of community is using chat
channels related with phone numbers (and/or not). I can't figure out if 33k
in a ML is ten times community in IRC types channels, but for sure is a
bigger community.

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] GIS accessibility for visually impaired students

2019-09-04 Thread Luigi Pirelli
for what I know about qgis (but I didn't dig into the matter) it is
possible to adapt color theme for daltonics... no idea if there are other
facilities for completely blind or with different conditions.

IMHO are common rule to avoid conflict of interest. Obviously it' really
hard to avoid lobbying buying or nominating friends, common rule to reduce
this are "one person, one vote", election rotation, etc.

"what extra would gain with this rule", that a nomination have to be
recognized by a community, not strictly related to a company. I personally
nominated or seconded many people I never met in my life, but I followed in
their work or presentations during conferences or due their code
contributions kind of web of thrust.

[OSGeo-Discuss] Code of Conduct... followup to avoid lobbies

2018-12-11 Thread Luigi Pirelli
I can't find a rule (in code of conduct) or election rules about charter
member nomination...

I wouldn't like to see nomination of a member from another member belonging
to the same company. It could be a mechanism to create lobbies.

any opinion?

[OSGeo-Discuss] Letter form to Schools, Universities and Institutions against free(as beer) licenced SW

2018-10-22 Thread Luigi Pirelli
Hi

In Spain, but I suppone in every place of the world, there are many
schools, universities or institutions that are dumped with free licences to
their users. This happen especially in school and univerisities.

Do we have best practices (e.g letter templates) describing the effect to
teach proprietary GIS sw respect open/free solutions?

whould be fine to have a template that could be enriched with national or
regional laws.

regards

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] "Hostile Takeover" -- what do we mean by this?

2017-08-30 Thread Luigi Pirelli
Hi Sara,

without having a deep knowledge of decision took at higher levels,
IMHO OS and particularly OSGEO worlds were already faced this kind of
"hostile takeover". Not necessarly as "takeover" but trying to do some
product protocols as OGC standards (think to lidar formats, map
servers corporate products years ago).
We are in a historical phase with GFOSS is growing more and more,
probably stressing his "almost" horizontal nature to something new...
but what is this "new" or "different"?
In QGIS world, probably due the nature of historical components
(mostly europeans), we structured the organization also to
avoid/reduce these hostile effects... is this a intercultural
difference or a real think to be aware?

tnx to rise up this aspect.

job list is a good start point but it does not cove many osgeo devs...
I would suggest to ask directly in the dev list of the project touched
by your requirements. the CV is usually the commit history or dev list
