Given that you've heard it in SoftSqueeze and on the hardware player,
I suspect it's a problem in the original RadioIO data. I'd drop
their customer support folks a note.

Mixing channels with some delay is a very simple time-domain operation.
You just look backward in the buffer by x samples, attentuate by y
decibels, then add to the other channel. Filters only come into play
when you want to change the frequency content of the mixed-in channel.

Could be a couple of things.

I notice that SlimServer scans artwork now in a second pass through
your library. After the first pass SlimServer will no longer display
'Currently scanning...' (or whatever it says), but will gradually pick
up cover art during the second pass. This is particularly noticeable
if it takes your server a long to to do a rescan of the library.

I'm pretty sure you need to do a 'clear library' when you rescan in
order to pick up any new artwork. That is, if you add artwork to album
directories and SlimServer has scanned the album previously. A rescan
without a 'clear' doesn't seem to find cover art, except for new
albums.

I have a problem that I don't know how to debug.

If I search for a song (that I know is there on an album that is not

Albums from that artist.

I don't know where to start with this one. The database clearly has
all the artist/album information as it is displayed correctly when
clicked through on the artist via the search results.

I did set d_file and when rescanning the library and see that the song
files are found.

using iTunes, on "SlimServer Version: 6.1.1 - 3774 - Linux - EN -

[slim] Slimserver inside Squeezebox?

2005-09-02 Thread marc1966

Hi music friends,

I've got 2 SB1 and I love them! What I do not like very much is the
dependency on a running server with the slimserver software on it. The
costs for a Mac or PC which is active all over the year are pretty
high. Furthermore I'm a lazy bastard. So I don't want to boot and shut
down my server every day.

Those network harddrives which you find in the meantime on every corner
could be a cheaper solution. Wouldn't it be a great idea to built the
slimserver software inside the SB so it could access the music simply
on a network drive? Maybe it could be realised with some low-cost flash
ram?

Kindly excuse my bad english. I'm a german boy who's out of school for
decades! Maybe there was already posted such a suggestion. I didn't
find it. Sorry.

Best regards
Marc :)

Hi,

Thanks for your comments. I've since changed the gateway on the bridged
PC to point at the router. This was how I had it originally anyway.

Unfortunately this has not had any effect on the main problem.
Effectively even though the bridged PC is in the same subnet etc. and
has the same gateway now, it is effectively invisible to the rest of
the network although it can see the other PC's going the other way.

This has got me stumped. If anyone else can replicate the problem I'd
be very interested to hear it.

Thanks a lot,

Yes indeed. Is slim acting as a proxy packet forwarder in bridge
mode?

empedia - you need to understand that by placing a different gateway IP
on your first pc, you are trying to have the SB2 act as a router.
However, since both sides of your bridge are on the same subnet, no
routing is required. Packets for the same subnet are just dumped on
the wire, and each device on that wire (or wireless "virtual wire")
listens for its mac address and matches its IP address later - no
routing required.

That's a concern. I really hope this isn't going to be the case with me.
It does sound as if supplies are flowing to the UK in reasonable

In fairness to Dabs I should point out that I've used them quite a few
times in the past and have found them to be very reliable for all my
other orders, typically next day delivery. Also, on the one occassion
when I had a problem the third-party courier delivered to the wrong
house and unfortunately whoever lived there was a totally dishonest
person who decided to pretend it was the right address and that they
were me. Dabs just arranged signature verification to prove it wasn't
me who signed for the goods and then re-shipped another unit (a hard
drive) to me. All in all, based on my personal experiences, I still
consider Dabs one of the good guys.

[slim] Connectivity with wireless bridge in SB2

2005-09-02 Thread empedia

I have an SB2 which I have connected to a PC via a cross-over cable so
that the SB2 is acting as a wireless bridge.

This is working fine - the SB2 is at IP Address 192.168.0.54 and the PC
is at 192.168.0.55. The PC is configured so that the SB2 is the default
gateway and I can browse the net from the PC etc. with no problem.

In the fullness of time I intend to set this PC up as a dedicated
slimserver box.

The problem comes when I try to ping this PC behind the wireless bridge
from another PC - IP Address 192.168.0.35. My other PC's simply refuse
to see it - all PC's are connected to the same wireless network as the
SB2 etc.

However the PC connected behind the bridge can ping and see all the
other PC's with no problem.

Both PC's are in the same Windows XP workgroup and indeed in the
workgroup the second PC can see the first PC with no problems but
cannot use TCP/IP to access it.

All PC's and the SB2 are configured with the same subnet mask
255.255.255.0. The SB2 and all the other PC's are configured to have
the default gateway of the Router - 192.168.0.1. All IP Addresses are
static and the other PC's have no problems seeing the SB2 or the router
or the internet etc.

What am I doing wrong here or will the wireless bridge effectively hide
the second PC from any other PC's on the network - clearly not an
acceptable situation.

I'm 99% certain this is not a firewall issue either as the second PC
can see other PC's on the network with ease.

I'm going slowly mad over this so any help gratefully received.

TIA,

Matt

For port forwarding (and Windows Remote Desktop) I find Tunnelier
superb.  Mostly because it sits in my tool tray and not in my task
bar.  I've got it configured to start and login to my ssh server
when I log in to my workstation.  Tunnelier also has a pretty good
sftp client built in, not great but it is stable and solid. On 9/2/05, Steve Bernard, Jr <[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [slim] Alleged (And Possibly Untrue) Shipment Problem From SlimDevices

2005-09-02 Thread Richie
I had a very similar experience with dabs, the due date kept getting
pushed back every time it got close. In the end I cancelled the order.
I know other people on this forum have used dabs so maybe if I'd
waited long enough I would have got it.

In the end I actually used www.multitask-computing.co.uk whose price
is the same as dabs but includes delivery so works out slightly
cheaper (unless you used one of dabs special promotions).

I too recently started using Tunnelier from Bitvise after PuTTY proved
to do a pretty lousy job forwarding here to work without crashing.

Re: [slim] iTunes setup using external hard drive

2005-09-02 Thread Steven Moore
First make sure itunes is looking at the ext hd by going into itunes
preferences>advanced and checking where the itunes music folder is
located. You can change the location of your music here. Your itunes
database file will remain in your home folder>music folder.
Then go into slimserver>server settings>itunes and make sure find
itunes automatically is set to find itunes automatically.

Then do a clear library and rescan and the server should do the rest.

Don't see why you need to do all that - as far as I can tell the rr
plugin automatically picks up the channel name from the
tag in the feed.

Maybe you need to actually open the feed on your slimserver first for
it to pick up the correct name..?

[slim] Alleged (And Possibly Untrue) Shipment Problem From SlimDevices

2005-09-02 Thread JulianL

Note I say "alleged" because I'm asking for advice and info here, and
maybe help out Slim Devices, I'm not trying to get aggressive.

I have had a black wireless Squeezebox 2 on order from dabs.com in the
UK for about a week. I knew they were out of stock and people on this
forum had posted that shipments were on the way to the UK. Last night
Dabs web site order status still said awaiting stock and that stock was
expected that day, i.e. 01Sep05. When I logged on just now to check the
status of my order the status for the SB2 has changed to "Supplier not
shipped - No new date".

Asking Dabs what is going on is a waste of time, they just read what is
on the web site. Can someone from Slim Devices give me the real scoop
here? Also, if this message is misleading then someone in sales might
want to have a quiet word with Dabs because having a message like that
on their web site doesn't make Slim Devices look good.

I'm hoping that it's just that the supplies didn't arrive on the
expected 01Sep05 date and this is an automatic message that will be
updated very soon and maybe even go straight to "in stock/(allocated)"
if the shipment was just a day late and arrived today. The stock info
on the public area of the site, i.e. not against the specific item on
my order, still says "4 expected in stock soon" so at least it's not
bad mouthing Slim Devices on the public area of the web site by saying
that they failed to make a shipment.

(I'm about 3 days away from completing the riping of my entire CD
collection, just 30 classical CDs and 10 various artists/compilation
CDs to go, so I'm desperate to get my SB2 of course. I also have 4
other PC-related items all batched up with the same order to save
shipping costs and all these items are now awaiting dispatch once the
SB2 is in stock; it's the SB2 I really care about though.)

Ooops.
This is only going to work on 6.2 onwards.
I forgot playlists are not in the database in 6.1!

I'll see how tricky it would be to get it to work on 6.1 - might not be
possible.
I can't really recommend you upgrade for this alone because I am finding
the playlists a bit flakey in 6.2.

[slim] Internet Radio - Finding hidden audio stream addresses.

2005-09-02 Thread jonolumb

Hi there
Many people are constantly demanding on the roku forums how to find
audio streams hidden behind a web player (i.e. the mms:// link). This
is quite often very tricky to find as many stations have a popup player
which comes up in a window. These often hide the actual streaming link
which is very frustrating. When you look through the source code in the
html, there are no links as everything is hidden behind active x or
javascript.

However, there is a way round this.
There is a nifty program out there that some of you may be aware of
called URL Snooper 2. Heres the link for the download.
http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/urlsnooper/

With this installed, you simply tell it which network adapter to watch
(your LAN card for the internet or your modem or wireless adapter). You
then click the sniff network button. Nothing happens immediately.

Now go to the website of interest (Classic FM for example).
Click on the listen live button and a player pops up. Give URL Snooper
30 seconds or so and suddenly lots of links spring up in the list. All
you have to do is scroll down and find those that begin with mms://
In this case, the link was mms://audio1.musicradio.com/classicfm
You then copy this to the clipboard and paste it into the slimserver
URL box or add it to your squeezenetwork favourites.
In some cases there is more than one link. Some of these are copies of
the same stream, others are the intro link that you may hear before
being directed to the live stream. In these cases, trial and error will
soon find you the correct link.

Hope this is useful to you all. I have attached a screenshot.
Jonathan

[slim] Re: Renaming RSS feeds in Slimserver

2005-09-02 Thread jonolumb

AHA I've sorted it.
First turn off slimserver (just in case).
Then go to the slimserver.pref file in:
C:/Program Files/slimserver/server/slimserver.pref
Open it in notepad and search for the google address.

The following entry turns up.

plugin_RssNews_feeds1 =
http://news.google.co.uk/nwshp?hl=en&tab=wn&q=&output=rss

That is the web address field. Next you need to find the name field so
click find next to get the next entry with the google address. This
entry turns up.

plugin_RssNews_names1 =
http://news.google.co.uk/nwshp?hl=en&tab=wn&q=&output=rss

Rename it to this

plugin_RssNews_names1 = Google News

The numbers of each entry should correspond (names1 is the name for
feeds1 etc).
Finally close the prefs file, start slimserver and go to the plugins
section on your squeezebox2. The plugins section should now contain the
new renamed version.

I suggest that slim devices should change their web interface to
include a name field for the RSS feed to avoid having to go to the
prefs file.

Hope this is useful to someone (I guess most ppl already know how to do
this sort of thing :) )
Cheers
Jono

[slim] Renaming RSS feeds in Slimserver

2005-09-02 Thread jonolumb

Hi there.
After deleting many of the RSS feeds I did not like in the slimserver
plugins section, I proceded to add the google news feed
(http://news.google.co.uk/nwshp?hl=en&tab=wn&q=&output=rss). However,
there is no input available to give this a name (such as Google news).
This means that it is called
http://news.google.co.uk/nwshp?hl=en&tab=wn&q=&output=rss and thus when
I go to the plugins section on my squeezebox it has (BBC News World
Edition) on the first option but when I scroll down I see an ugly
(http://news.google.co.uk/nwshp?hl=en&tab=wn&q=&output=rss). Is there
any way I can modify the slimservers database (which file in that
case?) so that I can name the google feed in a similar way to the BBC
Feed.
Hope that wasn't too confusing
Thanks
Jono

RE: [slim] Re: Music file question - how do you manage mixed albums?

2005-09-02 Thread Dan Goodinson
The albums wouldn't necessarily fall under the same genre. There's bit
of breakbeat, a bit of 80s electro-pop, at least 1 drum and bass
compilation etc.

Having a genre tags for each album means that I could more easily find
the album and play all tracks (not shuffled) from any given album. I've
been fairly strict with the genres, so don't have all that many. It'd
be easier to find the mix albums via genre by just looking down the list
- rather than trying to remember the album title an navigating directly
that way. I'm thinking along the lines of an genre tag like "Mix -
History Of Breaks" or something; e.g. each tag prefixed with the word
"mix".

Either that, or I guess I could create a new sub folder for mixed
albums, and browse to mixed albums via the music folder. Then I could
have just a single new genre tag called "mix" or something...

Why would you need a different Genre tag for each album? If you put all
the mixes under one Genre, then you could just not use random mode when
you play that Genre.

Yeah, I'm also a little confused as to how could you do that unless the
SB2 itself supported ssh tunneling?

Perhaps you open the SSH tunnel on a local PC, and then point the SB at
that machine as the server? (he says, guessing)

Yes, that's exactly how you would do it.

Set up ssh tunneling from a local PC to your remote server (ports
3483/TCP, 3483/UDP, 9000/TCP) and point your SB at the local PC.
