Ben: I have been using the SlimServer 6.2 version of new skin for a few days now. It is great! Thanks for sharing. I have a couple of suggestions. First, have you considered to eliminate the Search Music icon from the Browse Music box on bottom half of the homepage? I think this is a duplicated command that also appears on top menu bar. Second, have you considered making the skin a little bit bigger so it is easier to read? When I am running the skin, I generally run it in Full screen mode on my 770. Also, I turn off the Toolbar which frees up another 1/2 or so on bottom of screen. The toolbar can easily be turned off by going to View -- Show toolbar -- Full screen in your browser and making sure it has NO check. I leave the toolbar visible on Normal screen mode. I can toggle back forth using the button on upper left top of 770. I don't know if anyone else has tried this but I don't want to see the toolbar as I want the 770 to serve as a glorified remote control when accessing the SlimServer. Thus, I have some free space on the bottom of the screen that could be used for more skin. I don't know if you can tell from the attached some screen shots (I wanted another excuse to use the screen capture utility), but there is plenty of extra space at the bottom without the toolbar visible. These are just a couple of suggestions you may or may not have previously considered. The skin is fantastic and thanks again for sharing it with us. +---+ |Filename: screenshot00.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=583| +---+ -- macdaddy macdaddy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2252 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19369 ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Not trying to tell you what to do -- it is after all YOUR skin, but I thought you might want to consider a little tweaking ;-) macdaddy -- macdaddy macdaddy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2252 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19369 ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Assuming the drift of the timebase (crystal?) in the squeezeboxen is fairly low but there is some individual variation amongst them, a better correction would be, at startup time, establish error in the crystal and correct for it low in the timing chain. Dropping frames, as you propose, would be audible. Correcting the clock errors could be done much more fine-grained. Michael either would be a vast improvement over the current situation though. I tend to prefer the idea of dropping frames because I don't assume that the clock is the only source of error. In fact, if I had to guess what causes the synchronization issues that are seen now, I'd blame the TCP stack. [slim] Re: Nokia 770 Skin
Thanks for all of the suggestions, all! atlslim-- on the refresh thing...I commented out the javascript that does the auto-refresh during my devlopment, and selectively neglected to put it back in. Eventually, I'll put it back in there, although my ideal fix is that instead of a full page refresh I can update page elements through an AJAX/DOM sorta thing. I'll give a quick response to several of the comments/suggestions made on the thread-- Remove search icon on home page in favor of search in nav bar. I sort of like search in the home page links section, but I see your point. I'll give it some thought. I don't think the Statistics icon has a lot of use either, and could easily be relegated to the links in the page footer (well, for that matter, Genre is more or less worthless for me and could go as well. I'm sure there are some OCD Slim-users out there that have scrubbed/standardized/organized their genre tags, but that's got to be the minority. Sorry, I digress) Make skin easier to read. absolutely, and thanks for the info on removing the toolbar in full-screen mode. I hadn't explored that fully, and I am sure happy for the extra screen real-estate. there are definitely some css changes I want to make to increase readability on the skin. that's high on my to-do list. Remove back key on top nav bar. I can't get behind this one. I've found in testing/using this skin that I rely heavily on the back arrow icon on the nav bar, and while the HARD KEY does the same thing, I am not a fan of switching between stylus and button clicking. How come? I'm left-handed. Mysterious disappearing volume controls. weird stuff. I'll take a look at the skin and see if there's any reason that table of controls wouldn't render when pointed to a non squeezebox player. Roku don't care. good luck with your inferior product. ;) thanks again for the suggestions--keep 'em coming! [slim] Problem with Freezes
Hi all, I've got a brand new Squeezebox 2 connected via wireless Airport to an Airport Extreme base station in the next room. Signal strength is at 80%+. Several times now, the Squeezebox has frozen up hard such that only pulling the power plug will bring it back. It is totally unresponsive to the remote control. Initially, this seemed to be linked to browsing the web interface while the Squeezebox was playing. More recently, the Squeezebox has frozen up in the middle of playing a song, and nobody was accessing it at the time. (The web browser was not even running). The display is stuck with the name (and graphical frequency display) of the song that was playing when the freeze occurred. Has anyone else experienced similar problems? Do I have a bad unit? Wireless won't make a difference as long as the device is acting as a bridge and not a router. -- Mike Theoretically, you are right. In practice, multicast does not like wireless. Granted, it may be able to struggle along well enough to serve the low-bandwidth needs of a Squeezebox stream, but since there are plenty of people unable to get that working now, I have my doubts. On a side note, try typing Theory into Google Earth :) Anyway, multicast (much like Ethernet itself) rather requires that all nodes in the group are able to operate at a lowest common denominator speed. WAPs deal with this situation by either breaking the bus down into bridged zones based on the connection speeds attained by the connected nodes, or by forcing all nodes to the speed attained by the slowest node. Therefore an IP multicast group may contain members who are at 1.1 mbps half-duplex and members who are at 11 mbps half-duplex. A WAP that's bridging into a real Ethernet is even worse, as now the fast end of the pool is 100 Mbps full-duplex. End result is that your entire multicast group bumbles along at 50% of 1.1 mbps in order to cater to the slowest node, who is still complaining mightily that it's going too fast and that he's missing half the packets. By doing unicast streams instead, most nodes perform fine and the slow node is the only one who sucks. Sure, you could write your multicast so that slow complainers get dropped, but why would SDI go to that effort for this application? -- Jack At Monkeynoodle.Org: It's A Scientific Venture... logicology Wrote: Hello all, So in short: MP3s stream over the internet fine / OGGs do not stream over the internet at all. Is this a bug, limitation, or an incorrect setting somewhere? It's a limitation of your upstream bandwidth, and the fact that OGG is decoded on the server and streamed, rather than being decoded on the squeezebox! Luckily, it's easily remedied: Open a browser to your slimserver, select your player, and in the player-settings, click the audio link. Towards the bottom, there's a bit-rate limiting option. Open a browser to your slimserver, select your player Hmmm, just noticed that you're using WinAmp at work. I don't know if that will show up as a player in the slimserver web interface. You might want to give SoftSqueeze a shot. (Less clunky, imho, than trying to use the webinterface to choose what songs to play, with the added bonus of getting you used to the remote-control). At any rate, you don't want to change your bit-rate settings for your hardware squeezebox, as that will just make it unnecessarily degrade the audio. -- Maditude Maditude's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=426 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19504 ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
