If so, which set is it showing me? Why does MediaMonkey *not* show the APE tag (values)?) Against both Artist and BAND it lists "Anouar Brahem"; only against Band/Orchestra/accompaniment does it have "Brahem, Anouar". I've no idea which tool(s) introduced this folly; I can't remember how I ripped the CD originally, and heavens knows how many times I've fiddled with the tags since. Nor do I know (nor really care to know) why SlimServer has decided to show this up *now*. I wonder if something like mp3tag can be used to rationalise this sort of mayhem in batch (i.e. without track-by-track mollycoddling)? To cap it all, I'm also spotting a few cases where one album (by one artist) have been split into two separate albums, which as far as I can see (in SS) have identical artists and titles. I'm guessing that I changed some other property of some tracks, using a tool that then screwed up the artist/album tags somehow, but left other tracks untouched. This is *so* frustrating. Just when I thought I'd got it all sussed, and had my collection tagged the way I wanted, it turns out that I haven't! Please note: my gripe is not with SlimServer, but with tagging tools that don't tell the whole truth. But no doubt it'll turn out to be some configuration option ("secretly write crap tags that override user's choices [default: on]") that I've not spotted. -- Brian -- Brian Ritchie Brian Ritchie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2319 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27848 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Hi, Downloaded and installed 6.5 today as a full replacement for 6.3.1 (zipped & deleted), where everything had been working well (Win2003 SP1 server). I've looked back through recent postings and can't see some of my issues listed anywhere, so here goes: - I've rescanned my albums and I have a number of issues with the browse features (at least via the web interface (Fishbone), not tested fully via SB2). I select an album by clicking on its name in the browse list and it shows the tracks, but always not in track order. Most tracks usually in the right order with many displaced. The Beatles - '1' shows 27 then 1 -26 (although it sometimes shows as a smaller collection of other albums intead). Blur - '13' shows all tracks in the correct order, Eric Clapton - '461 Ocean Boulevard' the tracks are all over the place. I've rescanned (clear & scan) several times and can't get this to come right. In the albums list many albums are shown more that once - mostly multi-disc sets, but sometimes single albums. There are tracks missing from one version that appear in the other version, as if merging the two would make the complete album. One 3 disc album has 6 entries in the album list. These are set in the tags as Disc 1 of 3, etc. My collection is mainly MP3Pro, but I've started to convert from CD to FLAC as well. These go into H:\Music.flac\Artist\Album, whereas the MP3s go into H:\Artist\Album. I used to be able to browse the FLAC music, but now I can't - it tries to interpret the Music.flac folder as a FLAC file and won't open it further. I can probably get round this by renaming the folder, but I didn't have to before. -- GrahameP GrahameP's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1210 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27936 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

(to clarify, I think I have a pseudo-log scale in place now, which was put in place to create a perceived linear volume scale. underlying slimserver code may have changed since then so I need to take another look at this) add two new AJAXed controls, + and -, that will make micro adjustments to the volume (i.e., up 1, down 1) FYI--any development like this goes into the code for the next slimserver version, not 6.5. cheers, #!/ben -- bklaas "the Nokia770 skin guy" bklaas's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19369 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19369 Question: Do you have a 770? - Got it - Want it - Need it - Forget it Hi Ben, I read many pages back your comment that the volume preset-points on your skin are scaled linearly. My question to you and others is, how many of the preset-points on the skin do you typically use? When I'm controlling the volume on my SB directly (without the skin), I find myself using mute and then a range of values within my normal listening volume, e.g. from "below-normal" to "above-normal", but nothing between mute and my "below-normal" setting. If my usage is typical, I'm wondering if your skin could provide much finer volume adjustments at the upper end of its scale, for example between 3 or 4 and 10. This would enable one to set one's ampliflier to a "normal" volume level, and use the skin to adjust it from there for different songs/moods/etc (in addition to mute and maybe a couple of other settings such as "very soft", "soft", and "very loud"). What I find now is that the volume adjustments on the skin are too large for me to use to my liking, and I would often prefer listening to a song a little louder or softer but need to change the volume either directly on my SB or stereo to do so. [slim] Streaming on 6.5 - having issues with "breaking" between songs
I primarily run Slimserver to stream my collection to myself at work (though I love my Squeezebox, it sits at home and waits for me all day long for the most part). I'm running my server on Windows XP. I recently wiped 6.3.1 and installed 6.5 - I've been very happy with the interface changes (I use the fishbone skin), but have found what I think is a change of behavior that is really causing me some angst... When listening to my stream (e.g., as http://localhost:9000/stream.mp3), the beginning of every song (up to a few seconds) is being cut off. I believe I've tracked it down to a "breaking" of the stream between songs - since I have my media players (tried on foobar2k and windows Media Player) set to repeat the playlist, what's happening is that the buffer is running out, and the "track" (stream) is restarting... dropping all the audio from the beginning of the track. Reading that back, I think I may be confused... but I know that I didn't ever have this problem with 6.3.1, so I think something is different. Am I nuts? Is anyone else having this issue? The interface to streamtuner itself needs some work, but getting a stream going is as easy as clicking on the stream and hitting play. I've been jamming to a random techno feed out of Glasgow this afternoon. StreamTuner requires Mplayer to run. Mplayer has also been ported to the 770: http://maemo.org/maemowiki/ApplicationCatalog2006#head-12e506b2cb298dfc71d78a0265831c7bafe95604 On the Slimserver skin front, most of my recent work has been with the Touch skin. Touch in 6.5 is nearly identical to Nokia770, except for a few css positioning differences. For the record, and after numerous installs / upgrades, I now expect difficulties to some degree. To soften the potential devastation to my precious music & playlists I've compiled a reinstall pack. This pack, although personal to me, includes all the prerequisite settings such as: Playlists location; Plugins (beware of any reinstalling any redundant plugin when changing versions); lame encoder; mplayer.exe (although not essential since AlienBBC now includes this for v6.5) backup of all playlists; plugin logins / passwords; player formatting This list is by no means exhaustive but it may help others to know that this generally serves me well. I intend to compile a definitive list of necessary files & settings soon & post in the forums. Good idea? The most common filepath which I tend to forget is that to my iTunes music & playlists. A fresh reinstall usually points to C:\Documents and Settings\ADMINISTRATOR\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\. In my case, these files are in: C:\Documents and Settings\OWNER\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music I strongly suspect that this has caught many others out also! 6.5.0 upgrade went smoothly on ClarkConnect. No problems that I can detect after playing around for an hour. I have to say that the performance is much better than 6.2.2. I haven't slogged thru tags in my collection lately, my software is old and dusty these days. But when I was looking at it a lot, the ISRC was not well supported. And the question of exactly what a "CD-release" is turns out to be non-trivial. At OneBigCd, we found things like albums with the same UPC code (and name and artist) that had radically different CDDB hash values, sometimes they had different numbers of tracks, lots of times they had differing track lengths. And it is pretty hard to calculate the CDDB hash once the files are in FLAC or MP3 or other format (I think you can do it if they are still PCM files, but who wants to keep them). Pat, Nice idea. I just had a look at your home page and saw all the tools you have developed. For flac files you can use multiple artist comments according to the slimwiki. I am not sure if it is still valid for 6.5. I understand that the mySQL database is new in 6.5 but I haven't had a good look at the slimserver internals yet. Also had a quick look at amazon. Alas no performer info. That would have been nice as the album art retrieval is almost manual as well. Perhaps it is possible to retrieve it from sites like Verve, Blue Note etc. For Jazz there are less than 10 labels that would cover 80% of most peoples collections. It would force me to organize the cd collection if I had to get them all out to manually enter all the artist data. -- gusi gusi's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3801 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27903 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Your ideas are all great, keep more comming. Some comments regarding some of the already posted ideas: BERNT - Your idea to sort albums by year when an artist already has been selected in the parent menu seems logical, I will change this. GUSI - Searching is out of scope for the Custom Browse plugin at the moment. DR LOVEGROVE - Releated information is currently not in the slimserver database which also makes your idea out of the scope at the moment, a great idea though if the relation information could be retreived from some web site. MARC SHERMAN - Defining menus for different genre combinations should definitely be possible with Custom Browse. I will just have to think about it a bit to see if there is a way to make the menus easy to configure. Today you will have to hard code the genre names in the *.cb.xml files which makes it a bit hard. It might be possible to have some sort of template based solution similar to what I have in the SQLPlayList plugin. RADISH - Your albums menu with separated compilations and artist albums should be quite simple, I'll try to include it in next release. JJZOLX - The Years menu sorted in descending order seems logical. - Regarding the Albums within the Years menu that is sorted by artist, its definitely possible. I'm not sure however that I want to make this the default though, it seems logical in one way but I think I would like it to display both the album and artist if this should be the default. I think I have to experiment a litte with it to see how it looks like. - The Genres menu as I see it is just a more shallow menu since the artist is not a menu level instead the albums are sorted by artist. I think this could be included as a sample. - Regarding the editing of XML files I have been thinking about a web UI, but haven't found a good solution that makes it both easy to use and not so hard to develop. At the moment I am thinking that it might be a good idea to be able to generate the xml files base on a number of selections and then edit them manually, similar to the way SQLPlayList works. - Adding the menus to the Home is probably possible, I will add this to the wishlist. - Someone else has to take the decision if this should be a core part of slimserver or not, at the moment I think its best as a plugin since it isn't very user friendly and the code inside is quite different from the code in the standard slimserver. -- erland Erland Isaksson 'My homepage' (http://erland.homeip.net) 'My download page' (http://erland.homeip.net/download) (Developer of 'TrackStat' (http://erland.homeip.net/download/do/viewapplication?name=slimserver-trackstat) , 'SQLPlayList' (http://erland.homeip.net/download/do/viewapplication?name=slimserver-sqlplaylist) , 'DynamicPlayList' (http://erland.homeip.net/download/do/viewapplication?name=slimserver-dynamicplaylist), 'Custom Browse' (http://erland.homeip.net/download/do/viewapplication?name=slimserver-custombrowse) and 'RandomPlayList' (http://erland.homeip.net/download/do/viewapplication?name=slimserver-randomplaylist) plugins) erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27903 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I don't want the bonus tracks to show up in my regular browsing, hence the "!Bonus" in the filter. - Marc ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] 6.5 - Genre count missing from Statistics page (fishbone only?)
I've used the fishbone skin 95% of the time, so I'm not positive that this page exists outside that skin - with 6.5, I've noticed that the Statistics page no longer shows me a genre count. I get songs, albums and artists, but there's a conspicuous spot of blank screen where genres used to be... Clearly not a big deal, I was just curious about the change - was it on purpose? erland wrote: I'm looking for ideas of new type of browse menus to include with the Custom Browse plugin. So I would like to get some ideas of different ways you would like to browse your music that is not possible with the current version of slimserver. Try to include a menu hierarchy example in your idea to make it easier to understand how you would like it to work, for example: Genres - (List of genres) -- (List of artists within the selected genre) --- (List of albums for selected artist within selected genre) (List of tracks on selected album, artist and genre) So how would you like to browse your music ? Here's what I want to see -- I'd like to be able to partition my collection with pre-defined genre filters. The filters would be configurable in the web-UI, preferably with an array of tri-states (ie: each genere can be included or excluded, not just included like in the Random Mix). Each filter would have a configurable title (which is how it would show up in the browse tree). For bonus points, add a Random Mix feature for each Genre filter. For _even more_ bonus points, somehow make it so that each of those Random Mix features can be optionally assigned a shortcut on the remote, say Hold N (where N is one of the number keys). Filtered Trees - My Music (Rock,Pop,Funk,New Wave,Indy,Avant-Garde,!Bonus) -- (List of artists who match the genre filter) --- (List of albums for selected genre filter/artist, sorted by year) (List of tracks for selected genre filter/artist/album) -- Random Album Mix in My Music (Hold 1) -- Random Song Mix in My Music - Wifes Music (Folk,Hiphop,Pop,Indy,!LPD,!Bonus) -- (List of artists who match the genre filter) --- (List of albums for selected genre filter/artist, sorted by year) (List of tracks for selected genre filter/artist/album) -- Random Album Mix in Wifes Music (Hold 2) -- Random Song Mix in Wifes Music - Kids Music (Childrens,!Bonus) -- (List of artists who match the genre filter) --- (List of albums for selected genre filter/artist, sorted by year) (List of tracks for selected genre filter/artist/album) -- Random Album Mix in Kids Music (Hold 3) -- Random Song Mix in Kids Music - Lullabies (Lullaby,!Bonus) -- (List of artists who match the genre filter) --- (List of albums for selected genre filter/artist, sorted by year) (List of tracks for selected genre filter/artist/album) -- Random Album Mix in Lullabies (Hold 4) -- Random Song Mix in Lullabies - Bonus Tracks (Bonus) -- (List of artists who match the genre filter) --- (List of albums for selected genre filter/artist, sorted by year) (List of tracks for selected genre filter/artist/album) -- Random Album Mix in Bonus Tracks -- Random Song Mix in Bonus Tracks What do you think about that? ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] MUSICIP Mix method
Hello everyone, I have installed SS 6.5.0 and music IP 1.7. I am sure it might sound a stupid question but I am getting crazy on it...Please I need some help from you experts My audio files are on a media server on my home network. The name of the server is "media". and the folders are shared. \\media\mp3 \\media mp3 preferiti On the same server I have both programs running. I have finished validation with music IP and now 99% of the songs are enabled for musicip Mixthe rest cannot be validated for some reason. At least this is what music ip tells me... When I go to slimserver, and I browse via the "music folders" option, I see no songs MIP ready therefore I cannot request an MIP Mix. Also, I only have a few playlists on this folder \\media\playlists, and for some reason, SS recognize those few playlists as MIP ready (little mm icon shows up). At this point how am I supposed to start a MIP mix if browsing via "Music folders" gives me no MIP ready songs ??? The only MIP ready things I have are those few playlists I created but I thought that i should be able to start a mix from ANY song I have (validated) on my music folder ??? Am I wrong or I got some sort of problems ??? Related artists and members of groups are available at a few sites; http://www.allmusic.com/ provides a reasonable collection, but I've seen quite a number of people question its accuracy, etc. Also, querying allmusic is a matter of page scraping which really isn't all that fun (or reliable). In the past I've uesd the 'mood' information from the allmusic site to create a whole new menu within SlimServer for browsing by the moods. However, the moods it provides are per-artist, not per track, and so whilst they might seem descriptive on the face of it, when taken as a whole within the context of a reasonable sized music collection they're not all that useful. http://gerph.org/diary/diary-aug.html#10_Aug_2006 has more information about the experiment. However, that's not quite related to what was being asked about. I had, a little while back, toyed with the idea of a plugin that let you traverse artist relations; so you could go to an artist and see a menu of the members, and from there you could go to groups that they have been in, and from there to the members of that group, and the groups they've been in, etc. Or the same for the 'similar groups'. I came to the conclusion that the best way to do it would be to write a special server to provide the relational information, rather than to put the information either into every file as an ID3v2 frame, or within the local directory structure. Then I went and did something else. -- gerph gerph's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1819 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27903 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: MUSICIP Mix method
Try browsing by artist or album rather than by music folder. The latter is just a straightforward browse of the directory structure and does not make use of the tags or any other cleverness associated with the tracks. When you go to an artist, album or track in the normal Browse method then you will see the small "m" symbol and can use your selection to seed a mix. Just press and hold the 'Play' button on the remote and you should see the mix being created. You then have to start it playing by releasing the 'Play' button and pressing it normally again. davep -- davep davep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27913 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I had exactly the same problem with my first SB3.
