Note that MySQL isn't working - also that you have McAfee running. There
are several threads here where McAfee has been reported as stopping this
running - the fix IIRC is to tell McAfee to ignore certain file types
used by MySQL...

I'll second that recommendation--I do exactly the same thing with my
DD-WRT router.

Considering all that a dd-wrt router is capable of doing at its price
point ($40 for a buffalo whr-g54s) its quite shocking to me what
manufacturers charge for a simple wireless bridge.

I would suggest finding the website for your favorite stations and
using their direct streaming link for your favorite. This will bypass
the Shoutcast link which will often fail to work properly.

[slim] Compatibility with CD Art Display program?

2007-03-22 Thread Kyle

Will Slimserver support the CD Art Display program found here:
http://www.closetosoftware.com/?s=cdartdisplay. I have been using it
with musikCube playing flac files through my laptop at work. It's a
great little program (will even find and download cover art and lyrics)
and would be nice to have on the desktop when using Slimserver. It
requires the player to write information regarding the currently
playing track. I don't see a setting for this in Slimserver, but I
might be missing something.

Re: [slim] Logitech to acquire Slim Devices!

2007-03-22 Thread Mark Lanctot

Did you read my post 5 posts up?

There's no indication to say that the SB3 has changed in any way since
the Logitech takeover - which happened 6 months ago, and the sky hasn't
fallen yet.

Also, you don't have to upgrade your SB3 if you don't want to. Since
the software is open-source, Logitech can't really discontinue offering
older versions - even if they did, there's nothing to prevent someone
putting them up on another site.

My first visit to the Slimdevices site for sometime and I was greeted
with the 'Slimdevices - a Logitech company' logo, what a shock, I
wasn't aware this takeover had happened.

I was about to order a new squeezebox, but this has stopped me in my

awful mix.

How can attaching 'a Logitech company' to the Slimdevices logo do
anything other than damage the Slimdevices brand?

If the next firmware update brings a Logitech logo to my Squeezebox
it'll be relegated to my junk peripherals box... and you know what's in

Yes, the SB1 does support shared key WEP.
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?HardwareComparison

When I bought an SB2, I upgraded my WLAN to 802.11g. My SB1 now sits on
an access point running DD-WRT as in "client bridge" mode using WPA.
This DD-WRT setup was less expensive and more flexible than buying a
unit designed only to be a WiFi bridge, and I recommend it to anyone
who reads the DD-WRT docs and is willing & able to go through the
install process (which is easier on some AP hardware than others).

I installed SlimServer on a fresh install of Win2k (which also has

access localhost:9000 fine. I then tried to access it remotely and it
didn't work (slow loading and 'page could not connect' page). But now I
can't even access SS locally!! After rebooting and even uninstalling and
reinstalling SS I get the same problem which is: SS tries to open (i can

This is by design - pressing "play" plays just the thing selected.

To play more things you would hit play on the first one, then down,

Re: [slim] ss won't open to website

2007-03-22 Thread bpa

A number of points

1. There was problem with SlimTray which didn't detect slimserver
starting up correctly and opened the IE window too soon before
slimserver was ready - I think it has been fixed in recent 6.5.2
builds.

2. On my system IE has some sort of cache so that when the "waiting for
host" error occur - I had to stop & restart IE before the
http://localhost:9000 would work.

3. Some security s/w removes the "localhost" entry from the windows
hosts file so you may have to use http://127.0.0.1:9000 or even
http://:9000

4. If you have WMP11 installed and running it will use port 9000 and
stop slimserver running.

Re: [slim] Integrating cover art from Amarok

2007-03-22 Thread srasher

Hi Ben,

sorry for the delayed answer, I had some web access troubles for the
last days. Of course, you can have my modification, it (the
modification) is of rather ridiculous complexity, as I only use the
original offline script to gather all the files in a temp directory
with as I wrote

 - .jpg

as filenames. To be honest, I own roundabout 1000 CDs but there are
only about 25 various artist ones beneath them, so I did not start to
struggle with this well discussed issue too long but just did some
manual copying and adjusting for these afterwards. As well as for
albums/artists containing "/" in the name, so for example for "AC/DC -
For those about to rock" the file is called

"DC - For those about to rock.jpg"

and resides in the subfolder

"AC"

This works pretty well with SlimServer when handling all artwork files
in a common folder.

I have attached the original script and the modified one so you can see
how little modification there is. For the moment I am pretty happy but
as I love Amarok as an in-front-of-the-PC-solution and in parallel I am
damn happy with my Squeezebox/Nokia 770 combination (thanks so much for
the skin by the way!), I am always interested in anything you might do
to the Amarok-Squeezebox-"integration" and also willing to join efforts
on scripting in case you need some help or some additional opinion!

Hope this is of any help to you!

Cheers,
Sebastian

Re: [slim] ANDY, problems with internet radio again

2007-03-22 Thread bpa

It looks like you're doing OK. The aim is to capture relevant data
ideally from just before a connection is made and then stop just after
you hear a 5-9 secs drop out on a Squeezebox. For intermittent problem
I usually stop a recording session if the problem doesn't show within a
few minutes and start again so that the capture file is not huge.

I'm nor sure about the windows version but I normally use the "prepare"
option so that i can press easily "start" just before I start Slimserver
playing the station.

Since Ethereal captures everything on the selected network interface -
this include confidential data - I shut down all unnecessary apps and
services (in Windows MS has a lot of things which use the network in
the background).

The default Ethereal setup has a packet size limit so that only about
68 bytes of the packet header are saved. I ran a test on a 32kbit/sec
WMA station and it saved about 60kbytes for 2 mins - as a result of
proxy playing to a SB, the traffic will be doubled. This data also
compresses quite well so depending on the size it may be necessary to
mail the file.

Re: [slim] Excluding Albums/Songs for Random Mix

2007-03-22 Thread BigTony

Ok, I found out how to do this while mucking about with settings.

For those that come after me

Tag all your live shows as 'Live Shows' in Genre, then uncheck the
'Live Shows' box in Random Mix ..

Done.

Easy

[slim] continue play following directory structure

2007-03-22 Thread moroswitie

I recently bought a squeezebox and I must say i love it.
There is only one major issue that I'm having.

I got this huge collection of mp3s. When I browse to a music file and
start playback. the squeezebox will play all the files currently in
that folder. (lets take a michael jackson album for example) After that
Michael jackson album comes a prince album.

What I want is the squeezebox to automatically start playing the next
available track in the three. so it should start with the prince album
track one.

Currently it stops or restarts the current album it is playing
(depening on the repeat status)

Creating a playlist to do this is not an option, with a collection of
almost 400GB This would result into a large playlist in which I can't
use the search function.

I never use cue files, but I hardly use BMF.

It's much easier to search for tracks or artists. Also, this often turns
up tracks I didn't know I had in the depths of my collection.

For example, I wanted to play "The Leaving of Liverpool" by Steve
Tilston (from the "Of Many Hands" album). So, I searched for "Leaving of
Liverpool". It returned two results - the Steve Tilston track and the
same song performed by The Pogues (from the "Red Roses for Me" album). I
didn't even know I had that track. I would never have found it if I were
using BMF.

Re: [slim] Short bursts of white noise

2007-03-22 Thread MrSinatra

i use analog outs.

i have noticed lil bits of white noise or pops or whatever you want to
call them pretty regularly on the SB, and have just gotten used to the
annoyance. (i don't mind it too much since usually my stereo is no
more than moderately loud and b/c it doesn't seem to happen often
during the music)

for me, they seem to happen most when SB is having trouble playing a
net stream, ~ when it starts or stops.

i've also noticed it other times, like when you stop it suddenly.

i'll try to pay better attention and let you know when all it does it
for me, if its beyond what i said above.

I was having similar problems recently. The most likely cause is rights

Google fstab you should be able to come up with some good resources.

[slim] SS or SB reedit playlists...

2007-03-22 Thread pablolie

...and delete songs from playlists all by themselves. Everybody back up
their playlists if they're on 6.5.1 is my advice...

Try the following - go to Plalists in SS. Pick a playlist. Click on a
song, it'll show you the song info. Use the back button in your browser
(IE7 for me). Do either refresh or go back to the first menu that shows
the playlists - select the same playlist. Surprise, the song you picked
previously will be gone from your playlist.

Very odd behavior. It's like SS has somewhat of an organic nature -
works great initally, the will start to do crazier stuff. For one,
more and more of the letter when navigating folders don't work anymore
- and they had worked previosuly, until the 7 (PQRS) started to act up,
now another has joined the action of not reacting logically... but
that's another issue I can live with. Self-editing playlists I can't
live with, too much work goes into putting playlists together!

Depends what you're transcoding to. If you're transcoding to a
lossless format like FLAC, then no loss in quality. But if you're
transcoding to a lossy format like MP3, then you will have a loss in
quality.

[slim] loosing signal on SB 3

2007-03-22 Thread robinm

I'm loosing the connection to my SB's and getting breakup on the sounds.
I want to get a better signal from my SB's and not get any breakup. Any
ideas?

My situation: I have 2 squeezebox's on the ground floor, wifi through
the house, a PC on 1st floor with wifi (only sometimes on) and my own
PC in the loft that is permanently on and directly connected to the
wifi router. This PC runs the slimserver.

I tried moving the router about but it only seems to offer a few
percent improvements ie 40 - 50 percent signal. I seem to remember I
was getting 70 percent.

I tried expanding the buffer to 30 seconds but it just takes an age to
start, plays for 30 seconds and then starts stuttering.

I could move the router to the center of the house but then the server
would be using the wifi rather than talk over a wire. Not sure if this
would help.

Mike

Extra info:
Music is all MP3
wifi router is Netgear DG384G
2* Squeezebox 3

I agree--I think that's an excellent idea.

Re: [slim] Connecting to Slimserver at Work

2007-03-22 Thread 4mula1

To a degree the whole idea of using Softsqueeze brings up a point that
some people have wanted: an easy way to duplicate player settings. As
it stands now, when I change SlimServer to a different version I have
to change all of the menu, display, and audio settings for 2 SB3s and 2
Softsqueeze installs. That sucks. Along the lines of being able to
copy settings from one player to another, why not entertain the idea of
a new player template. One template for hardware players (which tend to
be local) and one for software clients. In the template for the
software clients I could set bitrate limiting to 128k and all new
software clients would inherit that, and could only be changed by
expressly changing it in SlimServer.

That would make "mass" Softsqueeze deployment easier, in that the users
wouldn't have to set it themselves.

No, no, it was probably me with an antagonistic tone! Sorry. I was
imagining differently, and it seemed to me Softsqueeze was the easier
way. I think the problem with stream.mp3 is that the user has to use
the webUI for playlist generation, etc. which is to be avoided - no
telling what else they'll do once they're into it!

That's mostly true, but I assumed that with MrSinatra's emphasis on

must be changed via the web interface.

[slim] Won't play WAVs!

2007-03-22 Thread hcanning

Hi all,

Small wierd problem here. Since a few weeks back my Squeezebox 3 has
decided not to play back WAV files anymore. I have a fair bit of
uncompressed music in this format, so it's a tad irritating.

It plays everything else.. MP3, WMA, FLAC etc, just not WAV files, you
hit play and it just sits there doing nothing.

Now it DOES play WAV files from my other Slimserver (Dad's music) but
not from my machine's Slimserver. It was running 6.5.1 and I updated
just now to 6.5.2, which didn't fix it, so I'm puzzled!

There's none of the bitrate limiting or anything going on in the
settings.. As far as I know nothing's changed... But I know a few weeks
ago I was trying to play high bitrate DTS / WAV files, these didn't play
because of the bitrate, but normal 1411kbit WAV files should!

Any suggestions?

Ta :)

I cannot reproduce it either with an exact sequence of events, however
most of the time it appears to be broken. I think even if you open a
bug with your workaround, it can help a developer understand the
problem. In addition we (any one with non English songs) can vote that
we are interested in a fix.

My experience with voted bugs is that they are fixed over time.

That looks very interesting. In fact I've tried to talk a colleague into
writing something like this quite some time ago. The encryption part
that allows backups to be stored on a friends server without privacy
issues is very cool and was part of my idea as well.

[slim] Excluding Albums/Songs for Random Mix

2007-03-22 Thread BigTony

The title says it all. In I-Tunes I can tick a box in the album info
that tells it not to play in shuffle mode, can I do the same thing in
SS?

My reason for this is to Exclude all my live shows, as they don't stand
up well to being chopped up.

Cheers

BT

Re: [slim] SlimServer v6.5.1 has broken Unicode support

2007-03-22 Thread ymilner

> ymiler, why won't you open a bug for this?

That's because I can't reliably reproduce it. I've tried several
things, and so far I couldn't spot an exact sequence of events that
leads to this problem.
I have several bugs opened where I did provide complete information -
and they are not fixed yet. So the chance of fixing this one is really
small.
So far you can try my workaround - stop the server, clear the cache
directory, start the server. Works for me.
