Actually, not strictly correct. My iTunes Update plugin has an option (for windows only) that copies the artwork for the currently playing song into SlimServer. [slim] iTunes alternatives
I'm currently using iTunes. Virtually every time I restart iTunes it decides my library is corrupt and churns for hours rebuilding it from the XML file. Argh! I'd love to use a different library system. Can anything else do what I do with iTunes? * dynamic "smart" playlists based on ratings and genre and listening stats * syncs to a portable player. Portable player can input ratings to the system. * SlimServer can read the dynamic playlists * podcast support Bonus points for bi-directional interaction with SlimServer so that Squeezebox ratings/playback feeds back in to the system. Re: [slim] Itunes artwork in slimserver
Just embed the artwork into the the tracks and SlimServer will see them properly. iTunes uses correct album art tags just like any reputable tagger out there. But it doesn't add the artwork automatically into the track's metadata if you only use the "Get Album Artwork" feature. In that case it stores the album art in its own external library files. Adding the artwork into each track's metadata is much more useful than having jpegs scattered through-out various folders that aren't useful to any other software and don't follow your music around. If using Mac OS you can download a script to automatically re-embed the artwork for any track(s) selected in iTunes: http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts13.php?page=1#trackswithoutartwork If you want to do it yourself manually, you just need to select the artwork in the preview window at the bottom left of the iTunes window, COPY it and then PASTE it into one or more tracks using the "Get Info" window. This is really old news and it would be nice if people would just stop griping about this rather minor annoyance with iTunes: http://twistedmelon.com/blog/sep2006.html#09230601 -- MelonMonkey Bruno *'Twisted Melon - Fine Mac OS Software' (http://twistedmelon.com) | 'mira - Personal Control for your Apple Remote' (http://twistedmelon.com)* MelonMonkey's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8466 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39109 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Currently, there is no way to get this directly from iTunes, except from iTunes. No, I don't think he should take any "blame". Why should a genuine customer who has done nothing wrong be blamed? Perhaps he could have done more checks. Easy to say after the event. But he can not be held to be at fault. If he'd bought the item from 'a guy down the pub' or some other risky situation, then he would not be justified in complaining. He would be buying knowing he had no rights if anything went wrong. In that situation it's definitely 'buyer beware'. >From a legal point of view empgamer is completely blameless. From a moral or common sense point of view perhaps he could have done more checking before parting with his money. Perhaps he might now also agree with that perspective. Re: [slim] Problems Connecting to SlimServer
You don't *have* to have a static IP address for your Slimserver, but it helps. In general, on Windows, you go to Control -> Network -> pick the NIC, -> TCP/IP -> properties and click off "DHCP" and enter a fixed IP address, netmask and router/gateway IP. But, you shouldn't set this blindly. Which raises questions on how your SlimServer PC is getting its DHCP address. If its from a router/wireless/cable model, then you should got to it, and find out what ranges of IP addresses you can reserve. Then pick a fixed address in the same subnet but outside the dymanic range. -- pfarrell Pat http://www.pfarrell.com/music/slimserver/slimsoftware.html pfarrell's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=200 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=37290 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Hi erland, Well FWIW, I would love the ability to search within custom tags that were aquired via CustomScan! The reason is that I add a custom tag to all my flac files that contains recording information. Currently, thanks to your CustomScan and CustomBrowse plugins, I can view this information right on the SB via the Now Playing right click menu, which is incredible! I must thank you for this functionality! So the point is, currently my music selection process starts with the music I want to hear - ie, I typically browse or search by artist (whether by letter, lazy, numerical keypress or standard) and drill down from there. To be able to approach browsing my music collection from the other direction, ie, recording criteria, would be awsome. You can configure Internet Connection Sharing (assuming it's Windows) on the internet connection of the living room PC, and that allows the SB3 to see the rest of the network through the PC. [slim] Two network connections at one PC?
Hi, I'm sure there is a simple answer to this but it's beyond my reasoning at the moment :-). I cannot seem to connect my SB3 and maintain an Internet connection. Setup is as follows: I have a Main PC and NAS in the bedroom attached to a broadband router and this is then connected to the lounge PC via a powerline link. I can see both PC's and NAS over the network and internet access is fine. Then I added a network card to the lounge PC and attached an SB3 via ethernet. I assigned a static IP address to the SB3 and network card and it worked fine but the network connection and internet access disappeared (in the lounge). If I remove the ethernet connection to the SB3 the internet connection is restored. I guess the conflict is having 2 network connections at the lounge PC but why is that a problem? Can I overcome it through network settings or do I need to add another switch? Any ideas greatly appreciated. [slim] Cannot get playlist with URL's to work
I am trying to use a playlist with URL's, and then use it as a favourite. I cannot get it to work, am I missing something? Example .pls playlist (I've tried an .m3u as well): Code: [playlist] NumberOfEntries=2 File1=mms://my.server.com/rod/test_071007_06.wma Title1=Test 071007 Length1=-1 File2=mms://my.server.com/rod/test_071007_07.wma Title2=Test2 071007 Length2=-1 Version=2 If I just put mms://my.server.com/rod/test_071007_06.wma into "Tune into URL" in the web interface, it plays fine. If I put http://my.server.com/test.pls (the example above) into "Tune into URL", the squeezebox just turns itself off. [slim] SlimServer 7.0 fails to start on windows
Downloaded & installed latest slimserver 7.0 (07-Oct-2007) executable for Windows I get the following: C:\Program Files\SqueezeCenter\server>squeezecenter.exe The following CPAN modules were found but are too old to work with SqueezeCenter : File::Temp (loaded 0.16, need 0.17) To fix this problem you have several options: 1. Install the latest version of the module(s) using CPAN: sudo cpan Some::Module 2. Update the module's package using apt-get, yum, etc. 3. Run the .tar.gz version of SqueezeCenter which includes all required CPAN modules. Undefined subroutine &main::main called at slimserver.pl line 65. [slim] Problems with recent slim server releases
Well I have been happily using my slims for years without any issues. Since upgrading to the logitech flavour of slim server things have started going awry. With great regularity the slim server dies on my 2003 server, usually every day or so. And now I have discovered that the artists view in the web interface produces one artist with several squillion tracks attributed to them. If I check the tag info in the 'browse music folder' view, everything looks fine and I can happily play them from there. I'm seriously considering a downgrade to an earlier version of slim server. Is anyone else having similar problems? Obviously Slim Devices must concentrate on getting SS 7.0 and the Jive system working well. But in the meantime there are clearly some issues with the Transporter firmware. The company really can't afford to have its flagship model not working correctly, and ought to see the sense in having someone work exclusively on it for a few days to get it sorted once and for all. -- cliveb Transporter -> ATC SCM100A cliveb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=348 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36959 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
