More suggestions, try a different skin classic is faster. A client server solution ! running the server SC AND the Client Firefox (don't use IE for SC, no don't ;-) ) on the same machine slow things down. Put a lightweight Linux distro (no graphic interface ) on any old PC, run this as a headless server (or build an silent energy efficient machine as many have done)you can do this on surprisingly old and tattered slow hardware and still get a god system as it is only doing one thing SC on a very ligthwiegth OS Linux without GUI. Control Playback trough the WEB UI on any OTHER machine on your network, preferred browser would be Firefox, you can have both browser on your PC nothing would brake if you install that, and FF is aviable on all platforms that SC can run on so that makes it the standard solution. -- Mnyb Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51305 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Sound card w Toslink for playing DTS FLAC files
I've solved my DTS-on-the-server problem in a round-about way, which comes with some advantages... I bought a 5.8GHz AV Sender and a Toslink-to-coax S/PDIF converter. The surround receiver in my hi-fi setup has a Toslink output (from whichever of its digital inputs is currently selected). I pass that Toslink output through the Toslink-to-coax converter and into the AV transmitter's 'video' input. Down in the home-office, where the SqueezeCenter PC resides, I connect the 'video' output from the AV receiver to a spare coax S/PDIF input on the surround receiver located nearby. So now I don't need to use the awful SqueezeSlave or SoftSqueeze in sync with the hi-fi SB3 - I just run the hi-fi SB3 'solo' (upstairs), and receive its Toslink output back down in the office via the AV sender! DTS tracks now decode correctly on the office surround receiver, so I'm chuffed. And of course the downstairs sound is perfectly in sync with upstairs, without any skips, pauses or bad sync that you get with SqueezeSlave. Another advantage of this method is that the stereo audio I now hear in the office is gain-adjusted (from track gain), something SqueezeSlave doesn't do. So I win on several levels! Incidentally, I chose 5.8GHz (over the more common 2.4GHz, which should also work) because the 2.4GHz band is a bit crowded in my house, with the WLAN, three cordless phone handsets, and the microwave oven. The AV Sender was under AUD100, and the Toslink converter under AUD30, so they cost me less than a top-end sound card would have, and anyway I couldn't find a soundcard manufacturer who would guarantee bit-perfect playback from SqueezeSlave. I've got two SB3's, a Receiver and Controller. The SB3's always work perfectly as does the Controller but the Receiver often freezes up and refuses to work soon after I start playing music. Re: [slim] New user's experience on SC: Slow, unintuitive, generally not fun
Hi fellas, I have recently aquired a Ready NAS NV+ with extra internal memory and 4 x 1TB discs. Transferred all the music to it and it is dead slow. I am running transporter. What bugs me much more is the navigation, when i enter into a music folder, and chose an artist, and start playing the album, then the silly SC does not stay in that folder, but goes out, and forces me to choose music folder and making it load for ages. On my friends SB3 it stays in the folder, and you can continue to browse and scroll the artists in the specific folder, without the SC going out of the whole enchillada. Is this a matter of set up, or is it apparatus dependent? Your suggestions and help is welcome. I have at present 2750 albums that are in FLAC mostly. These are divided in 4 folders. Re: [slim] New user's experience on SC: Slow, unintuitive, generally not fun
I'm fully behind Jooseppi, as indicated in my post some months ago: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44457 My 3GHz Win2k PC is no slouch, and runs all other applications at the speed I expect. Maybe the comparison with Sooloos (whatever that is) is unfair, but what about my previous comparison with Spider Player, which is free? In Spider, I can open the same 17,000 track (.m3u) playlist that I feed to SqueezeCenter, and ask Spider to shuffle it, and in less than 1 second the list is shuffled and I can start playing immediately. But ask SC to shuffle a new list (of this size) it hasn't previously shuffled, and it takes 1 or 2 MINUTES on my system. There are many other examples of SC's slowness, not least the the 50 minutes it takes to 'scan' my library, a task it shouldn't need to do since I create my own playlists (in a matter of seconds). I agree that the interpreted and web-based nature of SC are probably what kill it, and would like one day to write a 'dedicated' PC application (in C) that does the few things I want, and fast (like Spider Player, with which, incidentally, I have no connection - just a satisfied user). To this end, Mark, can you point me to the protocol for communicating with the players, which you say is open and documented. [slim] Internet radio on demand (.asp?) problems
Hi all, My experiences so far with Squeezebox are very good, but now I have come across a problem. I'm living i Sweden, where the swedish radio provides a lot of internet radio stations, as well as a lot of broadcasts that can be replayed again on demand. On the site they provide an url to the latest broadcast, and it uses the format: www.sr.se/webbradio/include/CreatePlaylist.asp?SkipDetect=1id=2078type=latestbroadcastAvailableAudioFormats=3AudioFormat=3IsBlock=1 This works in Internet Explorer, where it opens an external Media Player window and plays the stream. When I put this in as the url for an internet radio station in SqueezeCenter (version 7.1 - 22170) I get no indication there is anything wrong with it. But I cannot play it. On the controller it reads Now Playing Nothing, or that the playlist is empty. Does anyone know if there is some plugin that might be able to handle this kind of dynamic url, or if there is a way to extract the actual url for the stream (or multiple streams)? Thanks for any input! Re: [slim] Running AAC Plus with SC7
Please provide system info as instructions can vary depending on your configuration. 1. What OS are you using ? Give processor if you are using OSX or Linux. 2. What version of SC ? After plugin installation and SC restart - check If you are running 7.1 and you just installed the plugins you will need to edit the install.xml file to enable the plugin to run on 7.1. I've attached to this post updated plugins which have updated install.xml. After changin install.xml or updating the plugin - restart SC. Check list. 1. Check Settings/Plugins - there should be an AACplus entry and it should be enabled. If there is no AACplus entry then the AACplus plugin was probably installed in the wrong directory. If the AACplus plugin is not enabled then there is some incompatibility that needs to be identified. 2. Check Settings/Advanced/File Types. There should be 3 entries for AACplus. At least the WAV and Flac entries must be enabled. If there are no AACplus entries then installation of AACplus plugin is faulty. On Windows if the AACplus Filetypes are not enabled then mplayer is not installed in the correct directory. 3. When testing a AACplus URL using Tune-in - if elapsed time increments but no audio then on Linux mplayer is not installed properly. +---+ |Filename: AACplusWin.zip | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5679| +---+ -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41403 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Tuning in radio stations on SqueezeCentre
I've not been able to do this at all on my Duet. For example I went to www.reciva.com and got the URL for RAI 5, an Italian classical music station I'd like to listen to. [slim] Problem with SC 7.1 in Win 2003 Server
I've just installed SC 7.1 running on a Windows 2003 Server, and Softsqueeze 3.5 on a couple of machines on the network - one running Vista Home Premium and the other XP SP2. Both SC and Softsqueeze appeared to install fine, and I can see the Softsqueeze players from the web interface, but when I try to play any track the track loads but doesn't start playing. I've set all debug options on the Vista Softsqueeze player and attach the console output below (truncated to meet the 1 char limit on this forum). The Softsqueeze player on the XP machine was previously connected to a SC 7.1 server on another machine (this time XP SP2 rather than Server 2003) and worked fine, so my problem appears to be with the new SC installation on the Server 2003 machine. Can anyone suggest what my problem might be? 0 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty slimserver=192.168.1.4 12 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty skin=slimdevices 13 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty skin.displayemulation=Squeezebox2 15 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty skin.alwaysontop=false 16 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty skin.systemtray=false 16 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty skin.touchscreen=false 17 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty audio.mixer=Java Sound Audio Engine 18 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty audio.mp3decoder=JLayer 18 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty audio.lineBufferSize=128000 19 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty savestream=false 19 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty savedir= 19 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty httpport=9000 20 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty slimport=3483 20 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty macaddress=8b:52:91:04:14:65 21 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty sshtunnel=false 21 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty sshserver=192.168.1.4 21 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty sshport=22 22 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty sshusername= 22 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty sshpassword= 22 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty sshprivatekey= 23 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty sshforwardports= 23 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty sshproxy=None 24 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty sshproxyhost= 24 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty sshproxyport= 24 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty skin.slimdevices.slimdevices.display=slimdevices.transporter 25 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG config - putProperty skin.slimdevices.slimdevices.remote=slimdevices.newremote 25 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG skin - before overlay processing 26 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG skin - after overlay processing 31 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG skin - gx clip java.awt.Rectangle[x=20,y=1,width=17,height=10] ov clip java.awt.Rectangle[x=20,y=1,width=17,height=10] 280 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG slimproto - tcp recv: strm 74 31 6d 3f 3f 3f 3f ff 0 a 30 0 0 0 f0 84 bf 1b 23 28 0 0 0 0 282 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG player - httpRequest= 282 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG player - parsed strm: command=t format=109 crossfade=0 replygain=0.0 ipaddr=192.168.1.4 port=9000 autostart=true autostartThreshold=261120 282 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG player - buffer null state 0 283 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG audiobuffer.verbose - avil R=0 W=0 A=0 283 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG audiobuffer.verbose - avil R=0 W=0 A=0 283 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG audiobuffer.verbose - avil R=0 W=0 A=0 283 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG player - output: 0.0 avail=0 size=3528000 284 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG player.verbose - status=STMt fullness=0 bytesRx=0 elapsedMilliseconds=0 284 [SlimTCP-1] DEBUG slimproto - tcp send: STAT length=51 750 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG skin - before overlay processing 751 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG skin - after overlay processing 751 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG skin - gx clip java.awt.Rectangle[x=0,y=0,width=895,height=170] ov clip java.awt.Rectangle[x=0,y=0,width=895,height=170] 781 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG skin - before overlay processing 781 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG skin - after overlay processing 782 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG skin - gx clip java.awt.Rectangle[x=0,y=0,width=895,height=170] ov clip java.awt.Rectangle[x=414,y=123,width=68,height=21] 804 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG skin - before overlay processing 804 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG skin - after overlay processing 805 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG skin - gx clip java.awt.Rectangle[x=409,y=94,width=78,height=50] ov clip java.awt.Rectangle[x=409,y=94,width=78,height=27] 824 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG skin - before overlay processing 825 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG skin - after overlay processing 825 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG skin - gx clip java.awt.Rectangle[x=409,y=67,width=78,height=54] ov clip java.awt.Rectangle[x=412,y=67,width=72,height=25] 844 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG skin - before overlay processing 844 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG skin - after overlay processing 845 [AWT-EventQueue-0] DEBUG skin - gx clip

Is you server connected using wired or wireless ethernet? If one is wired and the other is wireless then the wireless bridge could be the cause of the issue. With the server off, power on the SB3 and press the left arrow button on the remote. Scroll through the Squeezebox Setup menu until you find Current settings (option 2 of 4, in my case). Within this menu you can view the value of the SqueezeCenter MAC address. Confirm that this value matches the actual MAC address of the SC7 system. If it does not, it may match the MAC address of your wireless bridge. In this case you can edit the value and see if it sends the magic packet to the correct MAC address (I've no idea whether it is stored or not as this never been a problem for me). If none of this is applicable to you, try connecting the PC and SB3 together directly using a patch cord and see if you can wake the PC using the SB3 (will need to assign IP addresses to both manually). Re: [slim] Internet radio on demand (.asp?) problems
Hi bpa, Thanks for your suggestion. I realize now that I should have mentioned in my original post that I'm running XP SP2 on a PC. I did file a bug report, as you suggested and in there I also put in some more information, i.e. that this URL used as an example actually contains two 30 min broadcasts, one after the other. I have the same problem though with other broadcasts on the same format that only direct to one stream item. Great list Mynb - now you've cost me a few more dollars ! I notice on the Itrax site that they don't do FLAC but 96/24 PCM. Re: [slim] Internet radio on demand (.asp?) problems
did file a bug report, as you suggested and in there I also put in some more information, i.e. that this URL used as an example actually contains two 30 min broadcasts, one after the other. Actually the problem is not 2 URLs but that one of the URL uses rtsp which is bizarre. The full ASX is shown below. Code: ASX version=3.0 ENTRY TITLEMelodikrysset Del 1 av 2/TITLE ABSTRACTMelodikrysset - l#65533;dag 23 augusti 2008 12:06/ABSTRACT REF HREF= rtsp://lyssna-wm.sr.se/autorec/p4/melodikrysset/srp4riks_2008-08-23_120559_1442_w4.wma/ REF HREF= mms://lyssna-wm.sr.se/autorec/p4/melodikrysset/srp4riks_2008-08-23_120559_1442_w4.wma/ REF HREF= http://lyssna-wm.sr.se/autorec/p4/melodikrysset/srp4riks_2008-08-23_120559_1442_w4.wma/ /ENTRY ENTRY TITLEMelodikrysset Del 2 av 2/TITLE ABSTRACT - l#65533;dag 23 augusti 2008 12:33/ABSTRACT REF HREF= rtsp://lyssna-wm.sr.se/autorec/p4/melodikrysset/srp4riks_2008-08-23_123259_1622_w4.wma/ REF HREF= mms://lyssna-wm.sr.se/autorec/p4/melodikrysset/srp4riks_2008-08-23_123259_1622_w4.wma/ REF HREF= http://lyssna-wm.sr.se/autorec/p4/melodikrysset/srp4riks_2008-08-23_123259_1622_w4.wma/ /ENTRY /ASX I have the same problem though with other broadcasts on the same format that only direct to one stream item. The fix will work for any ASX playlist which have URLS which are not http or mms (e.g. rtsp) protocol and the non http/mms URL is first in the list of URLs as this combination is the bug. The bug fix will work in XP but on Windows Squeezecenter is compiled and I assume you do not have the tools to create a new .exe with the fix. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51410 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Internet radio on demand (.asp?) problems
Thanks very much, now the problem makes sense to me. I will try two different things: One is (bpa, your assumption is right I presently cannot 'compile') to get the necessary tools to be able to compile the fixed version of ASX.pm. Second is to contact the webmaster of swedish radio and ask if they could change the order of the different URLs in the playlist. This is actually quite possible that they would do. I plan to put SqueezeCenter on a QNAP TS 109 II next week, would I still have to run compiled versions on that, or would changes in the files affect SqueezeCenter after a reboot (it runs Linux I think)? Once again thank you very much! Re: [slim] Internet radio on demand (.asp?) problems
To run SC on Windows - you can use the free version from ActiveState http://www.activestate.com/Products/activeperl/index.mhtml However there may be some issues if your try to run SC as a service. You only need the development kit (cost some $$$) if you want to create a distrbutable .exe. It may be easier to wait for a day for a fix and use a nightly build. The fix you showed in your last post, would it resolve the problems for any number of items in the returned playlist (only disregarding duplicates in terms of player format)? the problem is not multiple items in a playlist - SC handles that OK now. The problem occurs when the first URL in a list of URLs is not a http or mms url. If you report the bug with my suggested fix - I think an official fix will be included quickly and you can use the nightly build (including windows .exe) probably in a few days. They may not use my fix but by isolating the bug makes it easier to apply a fix. Linux version are runs from the source code files so on a QNAP my fix would work. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51410 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Very nice variety, ranging from hard-core roots music (e.g. Old Man Luedecke, Joey Wright)) to very modern jazz (e.g. Andrew Downing). Re: [slim] New user's experience on SC: Slow, unintuitive, generally not fun
i have run SC on a variety of machines. the thing is - that in itself attests to the power of the concept, and i am surprised this thread doesn't highlight it more. sure, someone claims they find SC sluggish, for whatever reasons, and that some specialized $10k box is more responsive. like others said - buy it... and feel really bad when it goes through the typical obsolescence cycle of computer-based systems. the squeezecenter approach allows you to ride all hardware waves powered by Moore's law. *that* is why i think the approach is unique and hands-down superior to others - it supports a strategic variety of target systems and operating systems, and gives you a future proof approach. come on. combine that with the audiphile merits, and you have an utter and total *bargain*. really. sure, the interface isn't always the snappiest, for whatever reasons. i run it on good hardware, and on most occasions i find it more than responsive enough (Duet excepted, unfortunately, as far as my personal experience goes), in fact i find the performance awesome considering the commitment to universal flexibility built into the design philosophy. this approach allows you to take advantage of performance and power efficiency improvements of each successive hardware wave - good luck accomplishing that with proprietary systems... i am not a logitech employee, nor have i ever had a stake in slim devices. i have just been a user, and on occasion accused of being overly negative on these forums. *i* find the system a lot of fun. it has allowed me to totally access my music collection. intuitiveness is good enough, it is at iPod level at least, and has features the iPod world hasn't. as to performance, heck, ymmv and so on, i find the SB3 and SC7.1 based system great both on vista64 and ubuntu based SC-servers. not a fan of the Duet experience yet. -- pablolie pablolie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3816 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51305 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
