Re: [slim] iPeng Application 1.0 now on the App Store
I have two comments on iPeng for Pippin: (I love iPeng so these are minor comments) 1) I currently have 4 SB3's and 1 Boom, or 5 devices total. This means that at least one (I think just one) device is always off the multiplayer screen, so I have to scroll the multiplayer screen to control that player. However, for some reason, I often have trouble with the scrolling. This is the only screen where I have this difficulty. The screen often just won't scroll. Either it just doesn't scroll when I finger swipe, or worse, it selects the player my finger happens to swipe across rather than scrolling. b) My second comment is that when I push and hold to play an album or track in Rhapsody, it sometimes doesn't play. It highlights and then unhighlights as if I have done the push and hold correctly, but nothing happens. I sometimes have to push and hold a couple times to get it to play. (I should add that I find iPeng to be BY FAR the best way to use Rhapsody. It's really a pain to search/browse Rhapsody any other way, and it's a breeze with iPeng. I really love Rhapsody now!) -- lanierb lanierb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5566 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55514 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Can SqueezeCenter coexist with CheckPoint VPN?
I have just had to install CheckPoint VPN on the machine that typically acts as my music server. I have already adjusted SqueezeCenter to use a different port to be able to load, but CheckPoint appears to block UDP port 3483 inbound by policy (verified in the logs as coming from the other computer running SqueezeCenter on my network), and even disabling the VPN (both the VPN-1 Securemote service and the Securemote watchdog) prevents my Squeezebox from seeing the server. The Squeezebox can see the backup server just fine (which does not have CheckPoint). Does anyone know how to make the two work together? A few more fun facts - the laptop runs Vista Enterprise and Symantec Endpoint Protection - both of which I have been able make work with my Squeezebox until adding the VPN to the mix. -- stoobie-doo stoobie-doo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2192 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57060 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] iPeng Application 1.0 now on the App Store
This is strictly an iphone/itouch app. You can't run it without the iphone/itouch itself. You can download it to itunes, but it will have to be synced to the phone/touch. (actually, i don't know of any iphone apps that can "run" on a computerthey all run on the phone/touch.) And it doesn't matter that it is on the same computer as SC. You just need to have the iphone/itouch on the same wireless LAN so that the Ipeng on the touch can see your network where SC is running. I have the ipeng for my iphone and find it particularly nice and easy to use. Very professional job and well worth the money. p.s. To add to your confusion, there is also an ipeng "skin" that I suppose you can use from the computer with the SC as a plugin. This predates the app and is different I suppose (I haven't used it). -- garym garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55514 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] What the amazon plug-in should really do
Shameless plug: my PlayLog plugin makes it relatively easy, at least for those in the US, to look for CDs and Amazon MP3s of music you hear on your Squeezebox (also information from Wikipedia, allmusic, etc.). It's not as integrated as slydog75 would like (not even as integrated as the SqueezeCenter Amazon cart), but it's another option for keeping track of music you're interested in. Works best in conjunction with ContextMenu if you want to only log specific songs. With ContextMenu + PlayLog, you hold the right arrow on the IR remote (or press and hold the Boom knob), scroll to "Log track info", and tap the right arrow (or knob). My favorite config is "All Internet Radio, others manual" so it logs info about every Internet Radio (and "Music Services" tracks) so I can go back later and look up more info about that record, buy a copy, etc. http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PlayLog.html Yes, my links to Amazon are tagged so that I get affiliate kickbacks (about $0.03 on a $0.99 MP3), but the level of clickthrough conversions is low enough that I think I, too, can say that the revenue sharing agreement is not a significant factor. :-) -Peter -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ free plugins: http://www.tux.org/~peterw/#slim AllQuiet BlankSaver ContextMenu FuzzyTime KidsPlay KitchenTimer PlayLog PowerCenter/BottleRocket SaverSwitcher SettingsManager SleepFade StatusFirst SyncOptions VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57023 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] What the amazon plug-in should really do
As the person here at Logitech responsible for the business agreement between Logitech and Amazon (at least as we implement Amazon on the Squeezebox), I too would like to see downloads. However, the APIs for the Amazon CD store are open and don't require any special license agreement beyond their associate T&Cs. However, to implement the MP3 downloads, you need a special license agreement. We would like to offer the ability to purchase and download songs directly from the device and we're working with a number of different download stores (Amazon too) to make that happen. And the main reason for integrating stores on Squeezebox is all about creating a seamless experience across all music properties on the web to allow you to discover, listen and own your favorite music. Just like how we allow you to smoothly move from listening on Pandora or finding a song on Last.fm or Rhapsody to listen on demand. [slim] Sound Effects - Gotta ask why and for what?
Hi had my Transporter and SB3 for some time now and very happy with both. Poking around the menus the other night I came across the sound effects menu and (not for the first time)I wondered why and what for? How did this feature come into existence? Some I can almost see a reason for (forest noises, rivers running etc) but some of the others leave me totally baffled as to their function. Playing some of these noises would substitute for caffeine if you wanted to stay awake I suppose. I guess these go wy back to SB rev 0 but can someone tell me why and what do you use your sound effects for anyway? :-) -- Limping_Pylon Limping_Pylon's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8086 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57054 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] iPeng Application 1.0 now on the App Store
Hi Pippin, I have now used iPeng for a while, and I am happy :-) It looks like the dream remote which was the reason why I originally bought my iPod Touch. As for the usage, I think it works like a charm. Sometimes it's lagging a bit (e.g. still showing the previous song etc.), but I guess that's the servers fault. I have however discovered one issue, which could be "local". I tried searching for them here, with no other notifications. The issue appears when browsing genres, I sometimes get the complete library when I choose "Genre -> "insert-genre-here" -> All Albums". Note that the list below "All Albums" is the correct list. But if I choose "all", then it lists...tadaa...All Albums. This seems to be a bug that is not always present? Anyone else experinecing this? Any workarounds? I'm running 7.2.1. Can anyone comment on future support for 802.11n? Specifically I am referring to any new devices planned that will include 5 GHz 802.11n WiFi. I'd like to buy a Squeezebox for the kitchen, but the problem is that when the microwave is turned on there is a lot of interference on the 2.4 GHz band. Another benefit of true 802.11n support is that I could configure my 802.11n network for the Greenfield mode of operation such that my other 802.11n devices can achieve highest throughput. Another alternative that would be great would be if Logitech offered an upgrade module (i.e. a new mini-PCI card) that would allow me to upgrade devices to 802.11n. I'd like to buy another Squeezebox but I don't want to get stuck with a bunch of 802.11g equipment. I'd like everything on my network to be 802.11n within 18 months. Re: [slim] Strange interference on wifi SB2s
I have this problem with an SB1 that generates radio interference whenever it is plugged in. The switching power supplies that convert the 120VAC power line voltage to various DC voltages used by the SB1 electronics are the culprits. The very fast switching transients in these power supplies have very broad spectral content, extending into the radio frequency spectrum. Because the Squeezeboxes have power cords that plug into the house wiring, this high frequency noise gets on the house power lines and from there into anything else that is plugged in - audio amplifiers, AM radios, TVs, cable boxes, etc. If these latter do not have adequate power line filtering, the noise from the power lines can modulate signals inside these electronic devices, resulting in noisy output. This is how most noise from the SB1 power supply gets into an audio amplifier - the audio lead connections are generally not the culprits. It is possible to build switching power supplies and power line filters such that this type of parasitic noise is eliminated or reduced to the point that it is not noticeable, but this type of design was not done for the DC supplies in the SB1. In the case of the SB1, there is a switching supply right in the AC power plug. This supply generates 5VDC that travels down the SB1 power cord to the SB1 enclosure, which has more switching supplies inside that generate other DC voltages. This "plug supply" is particularly noisy and puts a lot of noise on the power line. I cured this problem by getting an old "linear" 5VDC supply from a discarded stand-alone computer disk drive and wiring it in to replace the unit in the SB1's power plug. This older power supply has an iron power transformer, uses passive diode switching at power line (low) frequency, and incorporates smoothing filters, so it generates no perceptible interference in my audio amp or radios. It is also bulky, heavy, more expensive to manufacture, and somewhat less efficient than the high frequency switching supply - these latter are the reasons the switching supplies were used in the first place. I opted for the less efficient DC power supply and eliminating the noise in my audio amp and AM radio. -- rkerr rkerr's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8784 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=56902 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Why I like Slimdevices :)
I do not visit the store front that often, however today I went to check it out and what did I see on the very front page. A link showing the 3 iphone apps that work to control SC. Why do I think this is great because many companies would try to bury those apps because they compete with their own product. However Sean and Company I am sure sees how these apps while they may compete on some level with the SBC they also give all of their products more appeal to many users. Most companies really are not that smart. While I have known this for awhile and is why I like their products so much. It is nice to see a company embrace and work with its customers instead of try and control them. [slim] SqueezePlay download
Sorry, I know this has been asked before but all the threads I can find on the topic seem to be out of date. Could someone let me know where I can download the SqueezePlay Beta from please? I've tried everywhere I can think of but can't find it. There should be something for the desktop and it's best if supplied by Logitech. I also like to listen to music while sat at my computer, usually 4 or 5 hours a day. I used SoftSqueeze for ages and have now moved on to SqueezePlay. As for bugs, I have also had occasion when SP just 'stops' - usually when playing radio streams (but not local playlists). But some radio stations can be a bit 'flaky' and I haven't searched through the logs. But, all this aside, the least 'important' thing is how it looks. All the niceties can be added in once it's stable and fully functioning. I still can't see why it should matter at this point?? -- bonze TranquilPC T2-WHS-A3 - SqueezeCenter Version: 7.3.1 - 24382 3 x wireless SB3 + a Duet bonze's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6150 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=56934 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Internet Radio menu
My internet radio menu doesn't have the talk and sport sub menus. I like to listen to talk radio from around the world, it is very difficult to now find talk radio stations. In previous versions of SC, I could browse talk stations by genre etc, but with 7.3, this has disappeared. Have read the wiki, it says the talk and sport sub-menu display are dependent on your region. I only have: staff picks local music world radioio and the rest However, if I log in to squeezenetwork, I have the talk and sport sub-menus. I have a radiotime account, and this has been registered with squeezenetwork. I live in Ireland. Anyone else in Ireland/uk noticing this problem? Don't know if this is a "feature" or a bug with either SC or radiotime. -- 12bore 12bore's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17181 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57013 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Syncing problems with 7.3
I'm not sure why Softsqueeze syncing would have changed significantly from 7.2 to 7.3 but I guess the lack of inter-track resync could be relevant. If SS is a constant interval off (out of sync) you could try adjusting it with the setting under Settings / Player / /Synchronize. The changes should take effect pretty-much immediately. But if you enable player.sync==debug logging and constantly see a message such as 'bailing bacause no play-point' or similar then the setting above will not help. -- awy awy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7480 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=56942 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Interesting, I've just installed SqueezePlay on my work PC and it does what you say of not resizing smaller than about 800x600. The one installed on my home PC (downloaded last week) resizes much smaller.
