People often interchange "Connector" for "Console" which is the dashboard which runs on any home computer and allows you to control elements of the home server. SO basically, you're correct in your assumption. With regard to what causes the major conflict, it's Twonky Media Server (A DLNA compliant media server) which ships on all HP MediaSmart Servers and the Fujitsu-Siemens Scaleo Home Server and uses 9000 as it's default port. If SC can automatically switch ports if it sees 9000 being used, that would be fantastic. Re: [slim] Windows Home Server
I think it is great that you now support Windows Home Server which I feel is a great platform for the technical people like my self who really sees the benefits of having a powerful home server (and not only a nas box) but don't won't to be bother with all that Linux stuff. At the moment I am running the SC WHS AddIn, SageTV WHS Edition for recording TV and TVersity (not official supported on WHS yet) to do transcoding of videos for my 360 (and playback of the SageTV recorded shows on the XBox as well). I would like to add a vote to the suggestion that the AddIn GUI should have a button for restarting the service and also the other few options mentioned in this thread that are not accessible through the web gui. As that leaves a lot of room on the AddIn page the rest could be occupied of some statistics, like last scan time, version information and general library information. Of course I would also like to see some kind of UPNP functionality, but I guess that is to much to wish for... At the moment I am using Erlends Static Playlist plugin to generate static playlists once a day (like my favorite songs, new songs etc) and those lists are imported into TVersity so that I can enjoy them on my Denon 3808 which supports UPNP connections. But thats is another story I guess :-) -- mariowing mariowing's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22779 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59433 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Pandora vs. Slacker vs. Last.fm vs. Genius
I find myself using slacker a lot. The ads don't bother me. last.fm always gave me mixes that were too oscure. Pandora works great if you are trying to branch out for new music. I'm not always in the mood for this. Slacker does great through a large variety of genres. I use it for 80s pop and hair metal for my wife. I have a great kiddie station set up for the kiddies. For me, I have prog rock, bop, fusion, and rock set up, along with some artist stations. Slacker seems to fit my listening moods most consistently. [slim] Pandora vs. Slacker vs. Last.fm vs. Genius
Hi gang, I listen to all of these, and here are my comparisons: Pandora - My favorite, but it has some quirks. It has a huge supply of artists and generally creates a nice station from a suggestion. Here are the quirks though: - Limited supply of music per station. Once I get it tuned if I listen to a station a lot I get a lot of repeats. - Prioritizes era over similarity. For example, when I seed "Neil Young" I get a ton of 1970's artists such as Jimi and The Who by default. This is crazy and wrong - I want music that sounds like Neil Young, not music on the radio at the time his biggest hits were popular. He has had about 20 albums since then. This is a major failing of Pandora and contrary to their story. - A Jack Johnson seed creates a station filled with improvisational jazz, even after killing every instance of it. When I want Chick Corea, I'll create a station for him. Slacker - As broad coverage as Pandora, and it creates very different stations from the same seeds. It doesn't have the era bug and the variety is broader and I'm listening to Slacker more and more. The downside - it has audio ads in the stream. They are often mixed to be louder than the music and it's disturbing. I'd listen more to it if they just mixed down the volume of the ads. Last.FM - I listen occasionally but when I do it's great. I have the free account so I only listen to the "Recommended" station but it's usually quite good, better than the Quickmix on Pandora. I scrobble both iTunes and my iPods, and Squeezecenter so it knows me pretty well. Genius - When I'm listening to iTunes I usually use Genius instead of Party Shuffle now. It has the same era bug as Pandora - when I select any classic rock song I only get classic rock suggested, but it's often much better than that. It's good for a more eclectic mix when using non-classic rock songs. I never got MusicIP to work. I saw that few had similar problem. Before stoped, comp showed SQEEZE.exe error. SB was freezed. After unpluging power cord lost all info from screen. Now, whan I plug cord, nothing shows on screen, remote don't do thing, no reset, no nothing! Only red light can be seen from depth of optical out, and it becomes warmer. Any suggestions? Thanks for the feedback everyone. I guess what I'm looking for is a tool that scans the music location and updates the library location and updates automatically when new folders added etc (I think the GOLD version of media monkey can do this). Re: [slim] Windows Home Server
A WHS add-in is fantastic news - really glad to see this is being worked on. In terms of integration, anything that would otherwise require the user to remote into the home server itself needs pulling into the WHS Console. Definitely changing ports is required in the console, as MeSue says. Personally, I'm happy controlling SqueezeCenter through the browser, but agree that a button to open the correct browser link on a client computer would be very useful. Re: [slim] Windows Home Server
I see no point in putting the Web GUI into the console. It's a lot faster to open a web browser than the WHS console. However, it would be nice to have a way to restart SC remotely since you need to do that when installing and updating plugins. Steve: I installed over the exe version. The first time it complained about not being able to replace squeezetray.exe and I had to close it down via remote desktop. Michael may have fixed that. Other than that, all went fine. Re: [slim] 7.3.2 Stable?
Still no joy, I'm afraid. I've tried changing the channels on the router, and it sometimes stays up for a while, but then goes into its reboot loop before turning itself off. I haven't been able to try it in wired mode yet due to the setup of my network. I've discovered a larger problem now thought - my machine running slimserver is going crazy on a library rescan. It gets about 1.5 hours in, and then the system speaker beeps continuously. The machine hasn't quite locked up, but it's certainly not running as normal. Cancelling the rescan calms it all down again. I hadn't noticed it before, since the machine is downstairs, and scans at 2am. I've had to disable the rescanning of the library for now - does anybody have any ideas, or steps I can do to find out more?
