[slim] High End sound from Squeezboxes?
Hi there, I'm pretty new here, because I've got my Squeezebox Duet only yesterday. I'm not writing for the dedicated Duet forum because I think this is a general matter: sound quality. I set up the Duet yesterday (took me some time to get it run), but after a good nicht with sleep (and snow in the morning), I could make it rum correctly. First of all: it's a 'genius' device, good idea. The controller needs some time to get me in (or it's me ?!?), but now I got it. Manual is fairly poor, so by zapping tru the menues I got it right. Had to reset the controller to factory setting 3 times before it worked correctly. Now my 'thing': I'm running the Duet on a very High-End stereo system, replacing my Tivx HD player (which sound very good with digital out connected to a DAC) - which player has a s**t menue and "Gui" (Giu? what Gui?); and above it makes noise (fan, harddisk). Now, the Squeezebox is connected to the same DAC, but doesn't sound so good... As far as I understood, the Squeezecenter is using Windows' own drivers, and iTunes (which I have installed on my Vista PC), right? Is it these items who manage the sound? I'm an Audio freak (even professional designer), but not a PC geek; so since it's my first experience with PC audio on my stereo set (the Tivx was an independant player), I always wonder about for example Asio drivers, how to force them, because people say they are better drivers. Also, could it be possible to use Foobar or Songbird to run the Duet? [slim] Last.fm playlists?
Probably one for AndyG, but I found out tonight that I can play my Last.fm playlists via the SB using "tune in url", providing I know the playlist reference (which can be found if you play the list via the website from the url). Re: [slim] Urgent Windows XP help needed please !
I guess I must be lucky: every time I've had the "must reboot for updates to take effect" message, it hasn't come with a threat to reboot by default if I do nothing (on any of the WinXP boxes I use). So to stop it from popping up every 10 minutes, I shove the little bastard over to the edge of the screen so only a tiny sliver is showing, and leave it there until I'm ready. (Sometimes I leave it like that for several days). Even so, I actually wince whenever the "updates are ready to download" balloon pops up. It's even more annoying than the one that tells me whether or not I have a wireless connection (given that it's usually bloody obvious). I don't want to disable update checks completely, but it's nice to find a way to stop the reminder. -- Brian -- Brian Ritchie Brian Ritchie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2319 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60036 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

The pause problem seems to be different from what I thought I was seeing. The player does start playing correctly at the paused point. It is squeezecenter which does not correctly start the time slider at the pause point. I am running SC Version: 7.3.2 - 24695. I have confirmed this behaviour with my older squeezeslave 0.7.5.1 binary on linux as well as the v0.8-25 win32 binary from sourceforge. > I too still have the stuttering problem using alsa. The stutter problem is not too bad, as I said consistently on a couple of tracks, but nothing on most of my music. Since my squeezeslave sits on a MythTV box, it needs to share sound and the alsa version does seem to work better with my spdif output than aoss which I was using earlier. I read KeyzerSuze's post, but not knowing anything about PortAudio, I am not sure what to make of it. When I compile 0.8-12, I get the same behavior of restarting a song after pause. One interesting thing is that if I click (in the Web interface) on a position in the time slider, then subsequent play after pauses return to that position rather than the start of the song. This is true in both 0.8-12 and 0.8-26. Another clue is that when I play a track from the beginning, pressing pause stops the track as expected then pressing play restarts from the beginning. [slim] SB version 3 keeps resetting
December 2008 I started having problems with the unit resetting it self, like when you disconnect the power supply - so I checked the powersupply but it was Ok outputtin 5,2V an above 2A. Then the unit somehow got its MAC address changed I gues this must have happened during a firmware update but I am not shure. I solved th problem with the MAC address and updated to squeezecenter Version 7.3.2 and everything worked flawlessly for about 48 hours or so, then the unit started rebooting, like when the power is first connected. Meaning the Unit first roles on the Logitech logo then the Slimdevice logo, then the unit turns off and start over agin. And I'm not able to connect to the unit through the squeezecenter. the Unit does'nt show on the the squeezecenter "choose player" tab. I have had the unit on another power supply (I have 2 Units) but same same. [slim] Difference between the SB3 & Boom ?
Hello, My squeezecenter runs on my mac and I put it to sleep after a certain amount of idle time. Re: [slim] Annouce: New Squeezeslave 0.8 release availabe on sourceforge
I've sent you a PM regarding the binary. This is not expected behaviour. Unfortunately, I don't see the pause problem. I use the 0.8-25 win32 binary all day, every day at work and pause it constantly. The track starts exactly where I paused it. I do it so often that I've mapped the keyboard audio keys to run a cli script to pause/unpause squeezeslave from my windows manager on Solaris. This could be related to the version of SC I'm still running 7.2.2 - r24134 at work, actually at home too. What version of SC are you running? I'll install that release on my test system to see if I can replicate the problem. Would you download a v0.7.5.1 binary from sourceforge and see if pause works with that release. If it does, then please try 0.8-12 and report back on your findings. This will help me narrow down what change may be causing the pause problem. I too still have the stuttering problem using alsa. I've gone back to using oss emulation with alsa as it's rock solid. Unfortunately, you loose the ability to share the audio device that way. Thankfully, this hasn't been an issue for me. I believe KeyzerSuze's observations as to the real cause of the stuttering using alsa holds true.
