I need to try this a second time - can you point me at instructions for

 2. A separate option to turn wifi off upon exit, possibly only when

That sounds very hardware specific. For instance, my PDA doesn't even

Re: [slim] Rhapsody Implementation Needs Improvement

2009-05-20 Thread ajkidle

My point here is that Logitech should be doing more, and on two fronts:

#1 - More robust code: 80%-90% of the time I can manually correct the
playback issues by pressing rewind, or pause/play, etc. depending on
which failure mode has occurred. If I can do it manually, the SC
software can do it too. We just need more robustly written error
handling routines. Of course it would be preferred to not burden SC
code with this, but the reality is that Rhapsody's service requires it.
And bottom line, I can't with clear conscience recommend a Squeezebox
Rhapsody combo to a non-technophile given its track record of
reliability (or lack thereof.) Which brings me to point #2...

#2 - Bang some heads together at Rhapsody: It's seems Rhapsody doesn't
really care about (or isn't responsive to) the end consumer. There are
threads all over these forums, the Sonos forums, and Rhapsody forums
complaining about reliability, and they've been on-going for well over a
year. The big-wigs at Logitech need to be taking this issue to their
business partners at Rhapsody. It makes everyone look bad when it
doesn't work. Although I wonder if this is just such a miniscule
portion of Rhapsody's customer base that they don't care?

Subscription based music is a huge selling point for Squeezebox. It
needs to work.

Re: [slim] feature request: file vs track calculator

2009-05-20 Thread aubuti

An experience this week got me thinking about this thread again. After
adding some new CDs to my collection I noticed that SC 7.4 reported 4876
tracks in my library, but MusicIP reported 4891. After checking with
various OS tools (ls -l in Ubuntu, dir in DOS, Windows Explorer in XP,
etc.) I confirmed that I have 4891 FLAC and MP3 files, but somehow SC
wasn't seeing 15 of them. I turned up the debugging on the scanner to
Warn and re-scanned, but no clues in scanner.log. (In retrospect I
should have turned it up to Debug.)

I then compared the track listing in the MusicIP cache with the tracks
table in the SC database, which turned out to be pretty easy even
without knowing any SQL. I just exported them into something Excel can
read, sorted on /path/filename, put them side-by-side and created a flag
variable in another column to show where they didn't match. This
revealed the 15 files, which turned out to be owned by username (which
is normal) and be mode 600 (which is not normal). SC couldn't read the
files because SC runs under user squeezecenter, but MusicIP saw them
because it runs under my username. A simple user error, although I'm a
bit puzzled about exactly how it happened. Anyway I fixed the
permissions (644) and now all is good.

Now, maybe some kind of double-checking
count-the-files-and-compare-to-the-metadata enhancement as suggested in
this thread would have caught this. But consider if I had made the
mistake one level higher, and made the *directory* unreadable by SC.
Then it would have no way of knowing there are audio files to be
scanned, and the double-checking wouldn't reveal the problem. So the
scanning process would be made more complex (at some cost to develop and
maintain), with only limited payback.

Which more or less takes me back to what I said in 'post #9 of this
thread'
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=316845#post316845): SC
shouldn't be expected to do one's basic file housekeeping. Moreover, in
some not-very-exceptional cases there is no way possible for it to do
that housekeeping, or even verify file totals.

[slim] Napster, Rhapsody other paid services

2009-05-20 Thread golddustpeak

This week I’ve been using my free 30 days to audition Napster and have
finally discovered that the service is not very consistent compared to
other streaming services or my server. I like the concept of their
current offering and would probably subscribe if only it would work for
me.

I have found that often only the first track of an album will play. On
some occasions I could select an album but the service would not play
any of the tracks. I have also experienced MANY rebuffering occurrences
in the early evening and not had problems with other sources.

I have searched and read of similar problems with Rhapsody as well.

So my question is are these unusual problems or do others have these
problems as well.
Is there a similar service that consistently works.

Can you give an example album?

Some napster tracks are limited to 30 sec previews which don't play via

However, again - if these are working on your SB3 and not on your

What I do is right click the Squeezecenter icon in the system
Preferences folder and delete it. Then open the MacHD and put
Squeezecenter in the search box in the upper right corner of that
widow to see if other folders exist. If they do delete them as well.
Then run Onyx. Then install the newest version of 7.3.3 Since you have
run Onyx you might try running the Disc Utility (
MacHDApplicationsUtilitiesDisc Utility ) that is a part of the Mac
OS. I assume you have kept up with all the Mac OS updates if not it's
worth checking again. I always run Onyx before and after updates. In any
event select the MacHD in the left pane and run Verify Permissions then
Fix Permissions if that is necessary. If that doesn't help then put your
original OS disc in your computer, re-start it and run Disc Utility
again. If other buttons appear when you are running Disc Utility such as
Repair run those as well. I know this all sounds like a lot of work but
I'm guessing that you have a software problem in the OS.

As I said some other albums seem to work fine…..

I guess I’ll just not invest in a subscription until I better

Re: [slim] Transporter NAPSTER

2009-05-20 Thread Siduhe

I am a bit confused and I think we may be talking at cross purposes. I
am talking about playing Napster tracks via the Squeezecenter web
interface, not via the Napster web interface. This may be because I am
a subscriber to Napster rather than using the free trial. Are you
saying that you can't see Napster tracks in the SC web interface, but
can via the controller?

For example, I am running 7.4 (Napster integration is also in 7.3.3,
not sure about 7.3.2) and I can browse to Music Services in the SC web
interface, drill down to Napster tracks, click play, and the tracks
play.

You should be able to do the same via the web interface or on the
Transporter player menu, without using the Controller.

What version of Squeezecenter are you running?

This may be some quirk of the free trial, but I can confirm that (for
me at least) the tracks you are having problems with work fine on a
Boom, SB3, SB2, SB1 and Duet (I tried it on all of my players, no
Transporter yet sadly). Hope this helps.

Just seems kinda funny, considering it's the same company.

My Harmony One and Harmony 525 worked flawlessly with my SB3 and Boom.
You probably have not set it up right. It's the Harmony's that can be a

I've just tried the Roberta Flack album. There are actually two
versions on the Napster site (in one the first track is entitled Jesse
and in the other Jesse [LP Version]. Both albums play fine for me,
song after song, initiated by pressing the play button from the web
interface. Do you see the same (if you try playing via the web
interface)?

If that works ok, is it only when you try to play from the Duet
Controller? What is the exact sequence of buttons you are pressing?

Also, you aren't running Squeezecenter 7.4 are you? If so, it's
bleeding edge at the moment and there's quite a lot of stuff isn't quite

I wonder if anyone knows - is there a plugin available or something that
would allow me to delete a track whilst at the squeezebox...

I've got my N5200 NAS serving out the tracks via the slimserver module
I've installed on it - however, I've got so much crap in my music
library - it would be nice for me to be able to select an option to
delete certain tracks when I'm listening random playlists...

No, the SB3 supports this just fine. Of course, it can't be completely
freeform -- your custom string has to be composed of valid fields that
SC will recognize. But you can choose from any of the data fields and
put them in any order, with whatever puctuation you like.

After typing the string, be sure to click the Apply button to save your
custom string. After saving it, then you can select it. Also, make sure
that you are doing this in the general settings, not the player-specific
settings tab.

After a week of not being able to get a MusicDNS key, I searched the

Finally there was a post from him, confirming he'd left but could not

It does't matter if I put colons (:) in between.

I've also tried to convert my key using

[slim] My Napster Library

2009-05-20 Thread golddustpeak

This week I’ve been using my free 30 days to audition Napster and have
been asking lots of questions.

So here is another one that I cannot find an answer by searching the
various resources.

How do I modify My Napster Library?
As I have been listening and getting a feel for the depth of the
service I’ve accumulating albums that I’m wanting to delete, but see no
way to do so.

tnx

Re: [slim] Any way to to delete tracks directly from Squeezebox?

2009-05-20 Thread aubuti

Do you have the requisite write permissions in the playlists folder? If
you're not sure, you can test it by trying to save a regular playlist,
and see if it gets saved to disk (and survives a restarting of SC). The
user that SC is running under has to have write permissions in the
playlist directory. In Linux the username is usually squeezecenter --
I don't know what it is for other OSs.

I'm not sure how to add WEP key using your udap_shell_1_0_0.exe.
 On Net-UDAP site:
 http://projects.robinbowes.com/Net-UDAP/trac#January212009
 I can read:
I just committed a change that switches to hex entry for WEP keys.
This simply means that instead of entering a hex key like this: abcd,
you should now enter it like this: 61626364.

How to add WEP key using this exe (hex or plain text)?

Hi, I have the same issue. My WEP key is in HEX, which leads to a
yellow button. The SBR does work over wired, it has the latest firmware
 downloaded.

But how should I convert my 10digit HEX key to ASCII?

I haven't found a reference that translates above abcd into
61626364, maybe this is just an example.

As Siduhe has pointed out, there are several on-line tools that can
convert from ascii to hex and vice versa.

What you need to do is:

1. Take your hex key, e.g. '61626364' and convert it to ascii. This will
result in something like 'abcd'
2. Use the resulting ascii string to set the WEP key

You will run into problems if you have used hex results in non-printable
ascii characters. You could get round that by choosing a nice ascii
password, converting to hex, storing the WEP key in your WAP, then using
the original ascii to set the WEP key on your SBR.

Of course, the best way to fix this would be to upgrade to the latest
version of Net-UDAP which accepts WEP key entry in hex.

R.

- F-Secure
- McAfee (any version)

None on my mac (99.9% of my time on computer including Squeezecenter).

AVG when I fire up the ol' PC to rip cds to Flac using EAC.

So I chose NONE.
