Re: [slim] Duet Receiver Only Question
shacky;436022 Wrote: > If I get a Duet receiver only, without the remote control, can I operate > if from my laptop with downloaded remote control? Since the receiver on its own doesn't have a UI, the issue you face is how to set it up on your network. There is no officially supported way to do this, but there are some Perl Scripts you can download that provide a method do the necessary configuration using text commands. For more info, look here: http://projects.robinbowes.com/Net-UDAP/trac This is not a polished or user-friendly program, so it may not suit everyone and as I say it is *not* supported by Logitech. It is possible that you could buy a receiver and find the task of setting it up too difficult to complete, depending on your competence and confidence in such matters. Once you have the receiver configured properly on your local network, it will be possible to use SqueezePlay or the Web UI to SqueezeCenter to control the player. Squeezeplay can be downloaded from the nighly Beta builds section of the web site, here: http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.3. If you can afford it, you might want to consider getting a full Squeezebox Classic, since it will be much easier to set up on the network and will be fully supported by Logitech for that purpose. IR remotes just work instantly for play, pause, fwd, > rwd and volume. That's very much how I see it. If they omitted IR control, they made a big mistake. I see this is as a successor to the SB3 with nice improvements in a several areas that are important to me (96/24, and album art display). But if they force me to use a touch screen on the device itself to control the beast, I'm not buying. And if a SBC is needed, to get remote operation, that will not convince me, either (reliability issues with past products are making me play defensive). -- dsdreamer -- "Dreamer, easy in the chair that really fits you..." dsdreamer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12588 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64706 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
