shacky;436022 Wrote:

Since the receiver on its own doesn't have a UI, the issue you face is
how to set it up on your network. There is no officially supported way
to do this, but there are some Perl Scripts you can download that
provide a method do the necessary configuration using text commands.

For more info, look here: http://projects.robinbowes.com/Net-UDAP/trac

This is not a polished or user-friendly program, so it may not suit
everyone and as I say it is *not* supported by Logitech. It is possible
that you could buy a receiver and find the task of setting it up too
difficult to complete, depending on your competence and confidence in
such matters.

Once you have the receiver configured properly on your local network,
it will be possible to use SqueezePlay or the Web UI to SqueezeCenter to
control the player. Squeezeplay can be downloaded from the nighly Beta
builds section of the web site, here:
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.3.

If you can afford it, you might want to consider getting a full
Squeezebox Classic, since it will be much easier to set up on the
network and will be fully supported by Logitech for that purpose.

Best regards,

yes, but setup is not "supported" without the controller. Search the

Yes, there are different forms of sleep. S3 is "suspend to RAM."
Another common one is S4, also known as "hibernate", in which the
session contents are written to disk. See this link for some basic info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Configuration_and_Power_Interface

In my experience the main factors have been (a) SBC firmware and (b)
where the SBC's menu is when the computer suspends. But as James
indicates, it's something they're still trying to reproduce reliably.

Don't worry Mike - no offence taken. You did lay yourself wide open to
misinterpretation or misquotation though :)

It's a shame that this site does not have emoticons attached to it,
they are good to insert where words fail.

I found that the WinAmp stream is flash player, so no use.
The Windows Media stream gave me this as a URL
http://www.radiofreecolorado.net/playlist_files/RFC_playlist_192.asx
,and RFC is now coming through my SB3 loud and clear, so possibly this
will satisfy other UK users.

The boom has the same degree of finish, for me, but the duet/receiver
slightly less so.

My bigger concern is the underlying firmware. The Duet has been out for
a year and half now, but developers have yet to really warm up to it or
figure it out.

The SB2 firmware is rock solid in terms of syncing and such, but if the
only SqueezeOS device still can't sync playback and is so inflexible in
the UI customization next to the previous generation.

I hope the new devices rectify this shortcoming.

[slim] Display Names of NPR Shows - no longer updating

2009-06-27 Thread jimzak

When I first upgraded to the new version of SC 7.3.3, I noticed that NPR
show names were correctly displayed.

NPR is, of course, National Public Radio and I listen via KUT in Austin
TX via one of their streams.

Now the show names displayed are not changing any more.

SC 7.3.3
Windows Vista 32-bit
2 Booms
1 Duet

Any thoughts?

Re: [slim] Computer Won't Stay In Standby Mode When SqueezeCenter Is Running

2009-06-27 Thread newy

OMG, it IS the Controller! I don't know why I never thought of that. It
didn't work when I went to the Home Page on the Controller but when I
took the battery out of the Controller the computer goes into standby
and does not come out of standby unless I want it to.

Here are my Controller settings (latest firmware installed):

Enable Playback - Off
Enable SSH - On
Sleep Timeout - 30
Suspend Timeout - 2400
Suspend Enabled - Enabled
Wireless Power Save - Enabled

Could any of these settings be the source of my problems?

Maybe the tabbee from Orange France (made by Sagem I think)
http://www.tabbee.fr/page/showroom-3d
(interface looks slow in their videos - but I expect it will be
improved over time)

Also - I think that Openpeak have a dockable model (the two I have at
home right now rely on power connection) - a relatively closed system
for now but due to open up a bit soon (but unapproved routes have been
exploited).

Both are 7-inch screens

That's a total cop out. Certainly there are ways for them to fix this

Not sure which Linn you heard, but the Akkurate and Klimax DS sure
don't sound "flat" (to me). Agree on the rubbish UI, hence the
unofficial "Skweeky" Squeezebox control interface :-)

Why? The last time I looked the Linn had the worse ui imaginable and
the Naim did a lot more than I needed, cost a lot more that I wanted and
had a particularly useless colour screen on the player.
However, the Naim did sound great (the Linn sounded flat and dull in
comparison).

Has anything changed?

That's very much how I see it. If they omitted IR control, they made a
big mistake. I see this is as a successor to the SB3 with nice
improvements in a several areas that are important to me (96/24, and
album art display). But if they force me to use a touch screen on the
device itself to control the beast, I'm not buying. And if a SBC is
needed, to get remote operation, that will not convince me, either
(reliability issues with past products are making me play defensive).
