[slim] Problem Saving Playlist

2009-07-15 Thread yoyoma

Using 7.3.3, when I try to save an already existing playlist using the
web interface, I get a message, Note: Illegal characters in name,
Please edit., and I am unable to save it. Does anyone know why this is
happening? The playlist is called, EmilyPlaylist. Thanks.

Re: [slim] Setting Sleep from SqueezeCenter...

2009-07-15 Thread craigim

Since the UI controls more than just the Boom, this would be a very
useful feature (and one that used to be available on the old default
skin).

I've got an SB3 hooked up to my stereo in my living room, with speakers
that go into my bedroom, where my computer desk is. If I want to change
the station, playlist, volume, etc., I can do it while working at my
desk, but if I want to set the sleep function before I go to bed, I need
to get up, walk to the other room, find the remote, and set the sleep
function.

[slim] Cover Art from 'mirrored' directory tree - possible?

2009-07-15 Thread MadMan

Ok, so I have my music as .flac files organized as
\\server\music\flac\%genre\%artist\%album\%title.flac and playing music
works great. The last week I've been getting album art to display in
both Squeezecenter and my Duet controller. I don't want to 'pollute' the
FLAC music file directories (for organizational purposes) and I
definitely do not want to embed images as tags so I was hoping I could
point Squeezecenter to \\server\music\cover
art\%genre\%artist\%album\folder.jpg wihch is a fully mirrored directory
tree structure of the FLAC directory (except for 'cover art'.) But I
can't figure out a way to do this - Squeezecenter doesn't allow
variables in the cover art directory option and I don't feel like
renaming all the cover art files to %artist-%album and dumping them in
one huge folder which would be very messy. Is there a way or do I just
have to suck it up and dump the folder.jpg files in to each folder?

Longpress of the remote number buttons is assigned to your favourites in
either squeezenetwork or squeezecenter.

So you have to configure wich ever you want as a favourite to choose it
via longpress. (First favourite is number one, and so on...)

I don't know if this works with Rhapsody stations, but it works with
most any station within Internet Radio or Music Services.
Try this within SC

- Mark the station as a Favorite (heart icon)
- Go to Favorites Menu
- Get to Edit mode (should see the Pencil when you hover mouse over
selected station)
- Click the Pencil
- Now you should see a drop down menu of 1 thru 10 to assign a
Favorite number

Sluggishness may also be related to the server you are running. I've

Just wiring the SB to the router does not mean it is using the wired

connection.

Actually the SB3 is supposed to switch over to ethernet as soon as you
plug in the ethernet cable (assuming it's a good cable). This is
different from the SB Duet Receiver, which does require the user to
re-do the setup process.

That said, it certainly is a good idea to double-check that the SB3 is
indeed using the ethernet connection after plugging it in. This can be
done via SC Settings Information and looking at the player info -- if
it doesn't say anything about wireless signal strength then it is using
wired. Or you can go back to network setup (hold down the left button on
the IR remote for 5 seconds) to see how it is connecting.

[slim] Internet radio hangs

2009-07-15 Thread Mike New

Internet radio seems to work well unless the radio station broadcasts a
header (internet streaming is brought to you by...), which is quite
common on NPR stations. The header is played successfully, then I get a
rebuffering message, and then the header replays after about 20-30
seconds. This behavior continues indefinitely.

If I paste the URL of an NPR station (taken from their website)
directly into the playlist, it works fine.

The problem started a few days after I installed 7.3.2, which is also
the first time I assigned Internet Radio stations to my Favorites list.
It worked fine for the first few days, then stopped for a couple of
weeks until I installed 7.3.3, which fixed the problem. After 3-4 days
it stopped working again and reinstalling 7.3.3 had no effect.

Any ideas?

It is quite simple on Windows:

 1. Close Spotify (right click on the Spotify tray icon and select

 2. Find your Spotify folder (where spotify.exe is). It is usually under
 C:/Program/Spotify/.

 3. Download DSBridge from
 http://dsbridge.googlecode.com/files/dsbridge-20090707-bin.zip. Put the
files DSound.dll and dsbridge.ini in your Spotify folder.

 4. Find on the Internet the file lame_enc.dll, preferably v. 3.98.2
 (hint: http://www.free-codecs.com/Lame_Encoder_download.htm). Put the
file lame_enc.dll in your Spotify folder.

 5. Start Spotify and play something. You will notice a new tray icon.

 6. Go to your web browser and open SqueezeCenter (you will need a
computer running SqueezeCenter to use DSBridge, I think). Go to
Favourites and choose Edit. Choose New Favourite and type a name for the
favourite (i.e. Spotify). If you are running Spotify on the same PC as
SqueezeCenter: Type http://localhost:8124/; as the url for your new
favourite. - If you are running SqueezeCenter and Spotify on separate
machines on a local network, you will have to find the IP address (on
your local network, something like 192.168.) of the machine running
Spotify and type that instead of localhost.

 7. Play the new Spotify favourite, via the web interface or iPeng,
and whatever is playing on Spotify will play on your SB3.

 Good luck!

Thanks for the step-by-step instructions. Did that, but I get the
connection timed out on the SB. Any suggestions ?

SRV was on another plane - his ability was just unreal. He was one of
those players that just seemed to channel the music. It's such a shame
he was taken from us so early.

The only tune of his I could tackle really was Crossfire. And even
that has some passages that he manages to make sound effortless that are
pretty difficult.

His rendition of Hendrix's Voodoo Chile is one of my favorites.

Thanks, but I am just an enthusiastic user of this exellent utility,
not the author, so I really do not know what the problem might be for
you.

Some guesswork:

1. Double check that you have the correct local IP-address of the
computer running SqueezeCenter and have set the correct port (the
:8124 part), see item 6 on the list.

2. If you are running and Spotify on the same PC, substitute
nevertheless localhost for the local IP-address of the PC.

3. Check if there is any software or hardware firewall blocking port
8124. If you are running and Spotify on different machines, you might
have to set your router to allow connections on port 8124 to the machine
running Spotify.

Good luck!

Thanks.
I had reset the sb1 more than once and tried everything I coudl think
of to minimise the chance of the server not delivering in time. Some
things seemed to help a bit, nut not completely. I even tried jumbo
frames - but have a draytek router that I think didn't like them. Just
to cap the whole problem neatly - the server PSU died last night so I
may have had other intermittent hardware problems. Hopefully I am about
to enter an 'oasis of calm' now with squeezecentre and whs!

I have also discovered that the SB1 would be happy mostly with mp3s on
the server but the flacs (transcoded) caused most problems. I have
sorted it by making the celebrated sideways step of buying a SB classic
with an amazon voucher present! Also waiting for a new PSU for the
server. I'll put the SB1 on ebay I think as most of my music is flacs
and it was a pain not being able to rely on the music from the sb1.

Cheers

A possible reason for your problems would be if some of your albums
were ripped with DRM applied. I don't know whether they would show up as
valid albums in SC, but it is quite possible they would if the metadata
can be read.

If these tracks can be accessed in Windows Media player, you could try
right-clicking on them in the library to see what clues can be found in

will give us an official plugin that allows full control with our
remotes. But until then its great to have a working option!

Thanks :)

Funny this should come up because I was just looking at this today. I
 found SimplifyMedia in my searching.

 A couple of questions:
 1) Does it support FLAC?
 2) Does it play gapless FLAC and LAME mp3?

 Thanks!
 Rich

Rich,
1. Yes it apparently does Flac, although there must be some kind of
compression applied to enable this to work across what is bound to be
limited bandwidth. I haven't tried this myself yet as I keep a parallel
mp3 library to feed the iPod anyway.

2. As for gapless I am not actually sure as I don't recall trying it.
I will have a check if I get the chance later today.
