Peter, this is exactly what I want. Thank you. Unfortunately I can't
get it to work. I've downloaded it and installed it, and it is clear
that the KidsPlay macro has replaced the default behavior. But nothing
plays. I assume this is because I am not specifying the
"PlayListNameGoesHere" in your example properly. Do I simply put in the
playlist name as shown in SqueezeCenter's list, or what? To be specific,
I have a playlist named "Contemporary Favorites" that I would like to
play. What would be the "playlist play" command to do this?

Ok try to contact support, have u suffered for months without

sometimes upgrades goes south, consider a completely clean install of
SC .
That happens more often than one would like, sometimes you have to do
clean installs instead of upgrades.
but here with support about that.
Or maybe a cleaning of the cache folder for SC .
Search for CleanSqueezeCenter_DB on the ready nas forum.
But again talk to support.

Is there a pattern to this any certain file type that is rebuffering ?

[slim] Rebuffering is ruining the Squeezebox experience

2009-07-17 Thread benthos

I remember a time when my Squeezebox never rebuffered. That's right, it
never rebuffered. But starting several months ago, with one of the more
recent updates, it became an issue. Music would pause inexplicably.
The dreaded rebuffering error message would appear.

Today I run version 7.3.3 on a Netgear Duo Readynas unit, streaming via
ethernet cable to an SB3. And yet, it rebuffers. Of course I plan to
go back to using an old version of the Squeezecenter software, it's the
only thing that ever worked in the past. But it's annoying. I've
thought about purchasing a Transporter, but who in their right mind
would spend thousands of dollars on something that is likely to give the
same rebuffering errors? I'd rather go back to cds than endure that.

Logitech needs to give some more serious consideration to this problem.
It's not like it's a new problem. It's starting to ruin their
product.

Cliff, you should be able to do that with my KidsPlay plugin. You'll
need to work out the CLI commands needed (something like "power 1; stop;
playlist clear; mixer volume 30; playlist play PlayListNameGoesHere;
sleep 5400;"), but this should be simple. Set KidsPlay for the Boom to
"KidsPlay routine or normal action" for the Boom, set up a KidsPlay
routine for whichever button you want to dedicate, and you're done; a
simple tap of that button will start your chosen playlist and sleep
timer. If you want, you can add other CLI commands to do things like set
the shuffle setting if you want the playlist not to always go in the
same order.

MikeekiM, I don't know how old your kids are, but two tips: one , check
out my SleepFade plugin, which lets you have the Squeezebox volume
decrease more gradually (normal behavior is full volume up to T minus
one minute). I haven't tested rigorously, but I suspect that a more
gradual fade is more likely to help keep my toddler asleep. Two, Rain
Outside is very close to plain old "pink noise". Before a recent trip, I
grabbed a pink noise MP3 off the net so that I could use it w/ my
netbook if needed. I've started using that instead of Rain Outside so
I'm not dependent on SqueezeNetwork.

I use the sleep function every night on my Boom, set to 90 minutes.
Which means 6 clicks of the sleep button on the remote every night. I
suspect I'm going to wear the button out at some point. I'd love a
one-touch way of setting sleep to 90 minutes. Doing it from SC wouldn't
be a problem if it would be possible. Ideally, I'd like to be able to
attach that to a preset button so the preset chose the playlist and the
sleep setting both. Just wishful thinking on that one I suspect.

Currently my collection uses both, but it seems that SC has troubles
with that.
That's a bit strange, because there seems to be code in place to
extract a year from a date tag. I don't know why it doesn't work for me.
Maybe it has something to do with the update of the database.

Yes, you are right (and all others :) ). At least I now knew what I had

A single file had a MUSICBRAINZ_SORTNAME tag.

I hope it will be solved then.

It's in your tags. You may not believe it... but it is.
You need to get MP3Tag and take a long hard look.
SC simply reads what is in the files.

I checked the contents of the mysql database, to see what caused the
sorting.
For 'Liszt, Franz' I noticed that SC has put "DEMONIC LISZT" in the
namesort column. That would explain why it is sorted with the D artists,
but how does it get to that name? It's definitely not in my Vorbis tags.
Last.fm mentions some sort of "the demonic liszt", but there seems

How did that string get it there? Does Squeezecenter query last.fm? Is

My home server has almost 6TB of stored music so I can't really sync
them as the storage in the vehicles is around 500GB (that's why I'm
playing with the MyBook). My main home system is isolated on its own
Ethernet Network (no WiFi). But I do pull my vehicles into the garage
and use my Beta setup that has about 1TB of my favorite music on a WiFI
network and move songs onto the Touchbook and Mac Mini over the Home
WiFi network. So for procedure, pull vehicle into garage, go downstairs,
drag and drop files into FLAC folder, its just that easy.

I have had so much enjoyment using Squeezebox at home that I had to
find a way to continue that into my vehicles. The better half thought I
was nuts to put it in the Thunderbird, but after having it can be
without it. I needed to write an iPhone App so I needed the Mac Mini
(which was the only Mac we have) to do that. She said it had to be back
in by morning so after 5 in and outs, I broke down and bought another
Mac Mini when they went on sale.

So once you try it or take it on a vacation, you'll wonder why you
didn't have one from the beginning. When we drive to the beach house its
about a 5 hour drive and a big part is through an area with mostly
Country and Christian Stations. We grew tired of changing CDs so the
Squeezebox setup has been assume. Have some really good Road Trip
Playlists built.

My old digital camera works on again off again. I will see what I can
take using my iPhone.

[slim] My Squeezebox Vehicle Setups

2009-07-17 Thread iPhone

A few people have asked about my mobile setups so I thought instead of
going way off topic I would start a new thread and then in the future I
can point them here so the original tread can stay on topic. This will
also make it easier to answer possible questions without hijacking
another thread.

Ford Expedition:

In our Expedition SUV, we use a Toughbook running SC with an SB3
(believe its an Ethernet crossover cable). RCAs to the Aux in on the
radio head unit. I started using an inverter to plug the OEM PS into as
well as the laptop just to prove the concept. Now I have two DC to DC
converters driving the units directly so no need for AC anymore since
both units are DC powered anyway. Controlling the SB3 is through the SC
WebUI on the Touchbook which is on a mount between the seats that mounts
to the front two passenger seat front bolts, basically an "L". This
setup works well day to day. I have played with a Duet in the SUV and it
hides very easily. The SBR under the dash or seat with the SBC and
cradle inside the center armrest between the front seats.

Ford Thunderbird:

We installed a Mac Mini in the trunk of the Thunderbird running SC.
Installed the SBR with DC/DC converter under the dash connected to the
radio head unit's AUX In with an Ethernet cable from Mac Mini to SBR
(standard Ethernet cable I believe). The SBR is setup in Adhoc Mode so
that it talks to the SBC over their WiFi link. The cradle is installed
in the little armrest between the seats. Ran a DC power cable under the
center console to an under dash DC/DC supply. So the cradle is always
powered to charge the SBC when its in the cradle. The Thunderbird is
driven M-F so not an issue on the vehicle battery.

I have found that the WD MyBook USB drives operate on 12VDC so a simple
DC lead off my DC block power point provides power. I have the 1TB
MyBook USB drive that I have started to play around with in the SUV to
expand the available library over what the Toughbook hard drive can
hold.

Re: [slim] OT: Asset UPnP server to XBMC

2009-07-17 Thread agillis

I have been working on building a good UPnP solution in VortexBox.
Currently we are using Ushare and it works OK. I have been told it is
the best open source UPnP server. It still has a few problems streaming
to various systems.

twonkymedia is pay software that is used on a lot of NAS systems. I
hear it works will but I haven't tried it.

I use XBMC here and I just do an SMB share to the XBMC box. It works
really well.

This sums it up:

I've not really played about with it, but it's more another social
network rather than a tech site.

I only signed up because I pre-registered when they first set it up.

Re: [slim] Annoying Napster info

2009-07-17 Thread aubuti

It doesn't bother me at all. Can't you avoid Napster information on the
player (at least when using SqueezeCenter) by disabling the Napster
plugin? On the www.logitechsqueezebox.com and www.mysqueezebox.com web
sites it's mostly on the top-level pages, along with other services that
will only be of interest to some people (MediaFly, Slacker, etc.).

Thanks for that!

A metadata question arised: The OGG stream of D-dur used to have tags
if played with native OGG support. If played with mplayer tags are gone.
Is there a possibility to make mplayer show tags in Squeezecenter (for
OGG and OggFlac)?

Look into the documentation that comes with SqueezeCenter.
It has a CLI documentation, this is probably the best documentation you
can get on SC's interfaces.
iPeng doesn't strictly use the CLI anymore (it uses a different
communication channel that is - frankly - barely documented) but the
basic command set is the same.

I going to have a play with the Symbian .NET SDK but not sure where to
start.

Where did you start with iPeng if you don't mind me asking, I've looked
in the 'development wiki'
(http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Category:Development) and
everything seems to be player or plugin code. Are there web services to
call or do you query the database directly etc etc.

[slim] Annoying Napster info

2009-07-17 Thread Eivindz

Anyone else annoyed by all the info about Napster, both on the Logitech
website and even on the player itself? Info is mostly a good thing, but
both the website and the player say, IN NORWEGIAN (I'm Norwegian), that
you can register for a free trial when in fact this service isn't
available in my country. Is this also the case for other countries
outside US, Canada, UK and Germany?

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify

Hi everyone,

found this thread, read it and started thinking.

Big thanks to the guys made this possible, i can now play iTunes and
Spotify on my PS3, through these files together with "PS3 media
server".

I've been trying everything before this, hi-jacking audio-out and
reversing it to Audio-in both through hardware with a wire on the back
panel and software with no luck. But this just worked. Thanks again

Re: [slim] lossless internet radio streaming in FLAC!

2009-07-17 Thread bpa

You can add the lines into the convert.conf file and they will take
effect at next SC restart. You will need mplayer to be installed on the
Windows path or in the SC Bin\MSwin32... directory (same location as
faad.exe and socketwrapper.exe). However if added to convert.conf, the
line will be lost when next version of SC is installed.

Code:

  ogg flc * *
  # R
[mplayer] -really-quiet -vc null -vo null -bandwidth 1000 -cache 128 -af
volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2 -ao pcm:nowaveheader:file=#PIPE# $FILE$
| [flac] -cs --totally-silent --endian=little --channels=2 --sign=signed
--bps=16 --sample-rate=44100 --compression-level-0 -
