Re: [slim] Firmware v130 issues with SB3
Thanks Millwood! I checked the remote settings and both slim devices remote and JVC remote were checked, unchecking then reselecting the SD remote cured the remote issue. After that the player didn't seem to respond to screen saver settings, although even scrolling through the player information menus showed the player had what I'd set. I re-installed slim server 7.4.0 build 28672 and all works how it should. Not sure if a server restart would have cured the final problem though. Many thanks to all for your suggestions. yes. The Queen app needs the plugin with squeezebox server in order to play the urls. > I hadn't seen the animation on my own, thanks to FlashBlock. Same here - I was a bit confused when I saw the first post complaining about it! While I don't care too much for the animation, I don't so much mind all the recent changes in the software - if nothing else it keeps the product interesting for me, anyway.I like everything about the "My Apps" change save the name - which I can deal with. It puts pretty much all the services I use in one, easy to nav spot which is a big improvement over the way it was presented in 7.3.3 There will be some things to work out as time moves forward, but I've been using SC since 6.5 and I believe we have come a long ways since then - and for what I do, the system was fully functional for me then - it's just better now. I am still very happy with my purchases - they do everything I want and more. The family enjoys them and doesn't mind the occasional change in software either. [slim] [ANNOUNCE] iPeng 1.2 for iPhone now on the AppStore
Here's what iPeng users have been waiting for since 7.4 showed up: I'm are happy to announce the availability on the App Store of iPeng 1.2. iPeng 1.2 is the third major release of iPeng and like 1.1 it will bring you major changes that will make iPeng an even better Music Remote. Optimized for Squeezebox™ Server 7.4 To begin with, iPeng 1.2 is a complementary release for Squeezebox Server 7.4 and MySqueezebox.com. It fully supports these server releases and in many places also uses similar UI concepts. In short: Here's what's new: * New Look and Icon * New User Interface handling ambiguous functionality through context menus instead of modes. * New MultiPlayer control page that allows for easier player management (syncing, moving between sources,...) * Group control for synced players. * Player context menu bundling all player features, reachable through the MultiPlayer control * Context menus for the current track and tracks in the current playlist. * Improved management of current playlist including option to save it. * Quick Tutorials explain the operation of iPeng. * Many, many details. New User Interface and Look. The first thing you'll notice is changed colors. But believe me, it's not about colors. iPeng now has a stringent UI concept that tries to do away with the confusion around SqueezePlay menus and different button modes. iPeng's new interface logic goes as follows: * Every item that has more than one action attached to it does have a Context Menu * You reach the Context Menu through a "hold" gesture (hold an item for approx. 1s). This will work almost everywhere (as long as there is something to be displayed): menus, library items, NowPlaying cover, playlist item, current player, you name it. * Simply tapping an item will trigger the default action, most of the time this means: descend to a lower menu. * Clicking an Album Cover (in a menu) will immediately play that album (there are one or two exceptions to this in places where it doesn't make sense to play the album). There is one exception: When viewing an Album or Playlist (that is: anything containing only tracks) there is still the old "mode" scheme. This is to allow you faster access to tracks for playing whole albums or building playlists; for many users these are the things they usually do with iPeng: * There are the tree modes in the navigation bar that determine what happens when you tap a track * play plays the whole album from that track * add adds the track to the end of the playlist * play-next inserts the track after the current one in the playlist. * hold will, as always, bring up a context menu. New MultiPlayer Control First of all: Yes, it does scroll :-). Apart from that, the whole thing has been completely redesigned. * Synced players are now grouped in sync groups that are distinguishable by the currently playing track and play state. Below this there are the individual players and you can set individual volume and power state of each player. * The MultiPlayer control has an edit mode in which you can move players between sync groups and also music sources. This can be done through drag'n'drop or by selecting several players and clicking a command button. Group Control If you select a player from a sync group, the main volume and power controls no longer act on the individual player, but on the whole group. Note: this is different from the "Sync Power" and "Sync Volume" settings in Squeezebox Server since you still have individual control over each player: * The main volume slider will show the average volume of the sync group. Moving the slider will change the volume on all players synchronously. You can change the relative volume between players using the controls on the MultiPlayer control. * The main power button will switch power on all players. You can still change the power state of individual players using the MultiPlayer control. Player Context Menu By clicking the accessory button on the current player in the MultiPlayer control or by holding the player you get to a player context menu. This menu will bundle all player specific settings and features such as * Alarms * Sleep * Player name * some plugins that act on players * Digital Inputs (Transporter only). NowPlaying Context Menus The cover art on NowPlaying and the tracks in the current playlist now have a TrackInfo context menu that allows you to access features like * Add to favorites * Browse by album/artist etc. * Access similar music through Apps * Get more Information about the track Current Playlist * Deleting tracks from the current playlist has been changed to a batch delete (just try it, you will understand it). * Also, the current playlist can now be saved. Quick Tutorials In several places in iPeng, features you encounter for the first time will be explained by a short, animated tutorial. And many more details... * Keep Connection now really works (at least for 30min) * WiFi will no longer be shut down as long as the A

It might be that your system went nite-nite during the process. Crashed the system? Was there a symptom? As elsewhere, I would suggest re-installing and using your power settings to disable sleep. My lib is a little under 10k alacs and a little under 1K "albums" and it takes a little over 30 minutes under 7.4. The same lib under RC7 on a VM with only 1GB takes only two minutes longer. Re: [slim] Having a few 7.4 problems
I'm in the same boat - as are a few others I'm sure. I had a hard time completing a full music scan with the previous versions of squeeze center, but after fighting my way through several attempts was able to get a full scan completed. With version 7.4 it just doesn't seem possible to complete the scan...I don't really feel like wading through the scanning logs and troubleshooting to figure out what the problem is right now. All I know is that something that had worked relatively seamlessly in the past no longer does so. Tech support was unfortunately not as helpful in resolving my issue as they have been in the past with other inquiries. After suggesting that I might try to remount the external hard drive containing my music into my main computer and seeing if that made any difference, I gave up (at least for today). My computer has locked up several times today while dealing with this "upgrade"...I wish I had come to the forums first and read some of the feedback here before I opted to install the new version of the software. I have never even used squeeze network before, so I'm assuming the upgrade was completely unnecessary in the first place aside from running the newest version of the software. -- Benefactor Benefactor's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=25904 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68671 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

This is what happened to me last night. Mine's a SB Classic, used with a MacBook Pro. I appreciate reading the technical assistance in the post just above mine but, frankly, I don't really understand it. I hope, when I try to follow it that it will all make sense. I have to say, this SB is a great product when it works, but it is SO deceptive. The instructions present a simple, intuitive walk through installation process, but NOTHING has worked as presented, and everything I've done has required technical assistance. [slim] Logitech is messing up Squeezebox
NB: I write this because I have a deep respect for Slim Devices, your products, your customer relationship. I want you to know that from my point of view Logitech are making mistakes with this brand and they need to sort it out. At first I was disappointed with the 'app' fascination announced this morning - it's cargo cult stuff - and logitech isn't the only one guilty of trying to ape Apple - but it's certainly one that's really pushing things to a level of absurdity...music services as 'apps' appears to be taking the consumer proposition to a level of abstraction that is very confusing and unclear. The renaming of everything *again* also is a dangerous move - witness wikis, blogs, forums - essentially the sum total of effort that's been put into documenting, discussion, explaining, solving and developing the Squeezebox landscape all being cast out of relevancy in terms of search keywords etc... - some of the owned content can be updated, but the earned/user created content out there on the web will likely never get updated. I've also been concerned to see that www.squeezebox.com being broken for quite a few hours now... so I resorted to slimdevices.com which now bounces through to logitechsqueezebox.com (which is a unnecessarily complex domain name) - and I'm greeted with this hokey amateur 3d model thing? Hi, I have the same problem here. I have upgraded Squeezecenter to 7,4 and the Squeezebox to v. 130 and since then the remote is not working anymore. This is both the case with my original squeezebox remote as with my later acquired logitech remote. I still can control the squeezebox via the web UI and via my Iphone but not via a remote... Btw: What is strange is that I have a another squeezebox in a different room and this works perfectly with my remotes so it seams. Somebody can help? [slim] Relative Newbie to Squeezebox Forums- an Appreciation
As a newcomer to these forums I would like to say that I enjoy "lurking" and have learned a lot on the Squeezebox and problems and opinions on the enjoyment of music almost all of which I was unaware of before. I have also been greatly helped in the setting up and operation of my Squeezebox and music library and now would hate to have to go back to the old system of inserting music CD's into the HiFi ! I have , however , a mild criticism of the supervision of the Forums . It seems to me that , unlike other Tech Forums , there is a tolerance of people "breaking into" other peoples threads with comments like "... Yes I have a similar problem to that " and from which intro they then proceed to talk about their problem which is frequently sufficiently different from the OP's thread to really require a separate Post with its own separate heading. This habit is pretty seriously frowned upon in other Tech-based Forums and is quite strictly policed. I looked at the release notes, and the e-mail from Logitech. I am still at a loss of what to do with the new menu items. They certainly seem inappropriate for my squeezeboxes. Why would I want to use FaceBook? The default menu items should be different for the different squeeze devices. I do two things with my squeezeboxes and Controller: I listen to my ripped music and I listen to Internet radio. So why do I need a MyApps menu item to listen to radioio? It should be on the Internet Radio menu item. Why can't I move it? Why can't I add stations to Internet Radio? This then forces me to also add Favorites to my top menu.
