[slim] Napster - Sky.Songs - Spotify ?

2010-01-05 Thread Kingjonesy

I've had a Boom for about a year and subscribe to Napster, the
combination seems to work very well and I'm very happy with it.

However, Napster is currently costing me £10 per month with 10 free
tracks.

Sky are offering £8 with 15 tracks, I'm tempted to move to sky. I'm
also a free member of spotify and would consider going to premium if
they started to offer free tracks each month.

My question is - Does anyone know if Sky and Spotify are planning to
release a plugin for squeezebox's?
also
Has anyone got any experience with Skysongs? is it any good? Should I
stay with Napster?

Re: [slim] FATAL: There is already another copy of the SqueezeboxServerrunning on this machine

2010-01-05 Thread bpa

Do wish there was a way to set debugging on.

Is there a log.conf file in the prefs directory ?

If so then edit the file using Wordpad and change the following entries
- change ERROR to DEBUG
log4perl.logger.server = ERROR
log4perl.logger.network.protocol = ERROR

If there is no prefs file then when running squeezesvr.exe from the
command line use the following after cd to the right directory.

SqueezeSvr.exe --debug server=DEBUG,network.protocol=DEBUG

contrary to help --debug gives log message not --logging.

If the problem is a inaccessible port 3483 then logging will give no
additional info but please post the complete log as earlier message may
show something. Post the complete log as sometimes missing messages are
the symptom.

Re: [slim] Napster - Sky.Songs - Spotify ?

2010-01-05 Thread mmca22gr

why not switch to £5 a month with Napster - you then only get 5 free
MP3s per month, but with £10 a month you should be getting 12 free
songs.

I think Napster has a larger library and works with Boom etc, while the
others do not.

Hi Frank

I've just tried 2.04 and have a few points.

1. Large Cover/Large Font/Display Tracks/ 4 no longer crashes ACC!

2. The title 'Album Catalog Creator' is scrolled in the default window
size of the initial dialogue box (ie it shows 'Album Catalog Creator
Al'.)

3. I still have my 'Children#PH#s Music' issue

4. Have you thought any more about removing the 'Tracks' heading above
track listings?

Cheers

entries for port 3483 both TCP UDP and SBS still booted OK so Windows

probably was a local issue on your side (lucky for me) ;-) I also

Not really yet as my focus is on resolving current issues. This is more
of a preferrence thing. You're the second user asking about removal of
the 'Tracks:' line prior to the tracklisting. Not yet a huge number.
Personally, although obvious, I like the 'Tracks:' line. Any other users
who want this removed? Please post a message.

Re: [slim] Live Music Archive

2010-01-05 Thread huytere

Can we use the RSS feed? The Rss Feed can be found here:

http://www-tracey.archive.org/services/collection-rss.php?collection=GratefulDead

Maybe I could write a program that would download the RSS nightly to
our local SBS, and then we could add this local RSS feed. That way it
will load quickly and be very responsive GUI.

I think if sling trys to load
http://www-tracey.archive.org/services/collection-rss.php?collection=GratefulDead
it will be too slow and unresponsive.

I am good at programming, but new to SB... so need some guidance. Could
I build a Dead app? It could expose several browse methods:

Year
Charlie Miller
Rating
Quality (soundboard vs mic vs fm)
Search

Ideas?

Would it be better to convert the RSS data to OPML data? I think it
would be nicer to have a proper App, because of the sheer amount of dead
recordings is staggerleeing.

You can't, it's a forum setting.

I think vB has the option to let you select this per post, but that
option will be turned off. At least now all the forums are consistent,
it used to be that the only the newer forums showed them, that used to
annoy me.

For log files, you should encase them in
Code:

brackets, then smilies (especially :D) will not appear.

Yes, I've been looking at fixing that. Can you not click skip in the

windows, but I don't run SS as a service.

indifference_engine;502677 Wrote:

other options with the same results. How do I update Squeezeslave's
 firmware??

The new display feature is optional and is only started if you supply
-D on the command line, otherwise it operates the same as all version
before displaying nothing. The -e option will most likely be removed in
the next release as it was really only intended for testing. Using it
only changes the player identifier reported to SBS when SS connects. It
does not change how SS operates internally in any way. The firmware
version is hard coded and there have only every been two versions; 0 and
1. I used v1 to determine if squeezeslave supports replay gain or not
from the player settings.

[slim] Squeezeplay on Mac: Problem

2010-01-05 Thread junglecat

Hi!

I do have the following problem:
I use Squeezeplay on a macMini with digital out. Works fine.
BUT: When I pause the play, start another application (i.e. EyeTV) that
uses sound and after pausing that application want to play on
Squeezeplay again - nothing. Squeezeplay plays - but no digital sound is
transmitted to the speakers. If I shutdown Squeezeplay and then open it
again it works.

Any ideas??

Thanks!!

Thanks, pski!

I was beginning to wonder if that was the case a few hours after I
posted but if it wasn't the case, I would have tossed the lot out the
window.

How the heck are people supposed to know these sorts of things??? When
I see how many questions there are on these types of forums and think
about how much frustration is behind each one, I shake my head thinking
there's got to be a better way.

 Thanks.

It worked both on my PC. It seems to be using WMP to play streams. But
I wasn't able to find the actual link to the stream.

You can go to the website radiotime.com and it is listed there as well,
but is listed as stream is unreliable. On SB there is a app for
radiotime which means I was able to find it via my SB and play it on the
SB. So it works, but I suspect it won't work reliably, because the
stream doesn't seem to be reliable.

WOW, I didn't expect a 2.0 version that soon :) Works fine for me.
 Thanks very much.

Well, I just discovered an issue with sorting. If I select TPE2 tag is
AlbumArtist instead of band and Sort artist by ARTISTSORT tag, the
albums that have an ALBUMARTIST set will be sorted by the ALBUMARTIST
and not the ARTISTSORT tag. Example, 3 albums:

1.) ARTIST: Robert Plant, ARTISTSORT: Plant, Robert
 2.) ARTIST: Robert Plant; Alison Krauss, ARTISTSORT: Plant, Robert;
Krauss, Alison, ALBUMARTIST: Robert Plant Alison Krauss
 3.) ARTIST: Portishead

Now I would expect the sorting order to be as listed above, 1-2-3. But
ACC sorts the albums in the order 1-3-2, because the ALBUMARTIST of the
 second album starts with R.
Do you have a solution for this?

Hi Eyeball,

I have some questions regarding this:
1. When you disable TPE2 tag is AlbumArtist instead of band, is the
sorting the right?
2. I think this issue is more multi artist related. Can you verify and
confirm that even with the TPE2 tag is AlbumArtist instead of band
option enabled, that sorting on ARTISTSORT works fine as long as there
are no multiple artists on the album?

I tend to use ss with internet radio so there isn't always a next track
and I don't know in advance what format the station is streaming in. If
I'm unlucky and it's in a format that is unsupported by ss I have to
restart the service to get it working again. Stopping the player,
selecting a good track, and hitting play again doesn't work for me. I
might try running the service under a different user account and see if
that makes a difference (currently using the BUILTIN\SYSTEM account).

only changes the player identifier reported to SBS when SS connects. It
does not change how SS operates internally in any way. The firmware
version is hard coded and there have only every been two versions; 0 and
 1. I used v1 to determine if squeezeslave supports replay gain or not
 from the player settings.
OK, so I'll ignore the -D and -e options for my setup. I've also tried
the ASIO version (using asio4all) and that works great. It seems to be
much more responsive and better sounding although I've not done any
critical listening yet.

I have two soundcards in the server and run two instances of ss, each
using its own soundcard via the -o option. I'm yet to investigate how
to get the multi-instance setup working via asio as the -L option only
shows one device. Keep up the good work!

One more observation for you. I'd be interested in what you think. I
have some albums with 2 years in their tags. For example Queen - Queen
II. The original album was 1974 but later there was a US Hollywood
Records Release with some remixes from 1991. I have the later album but
did not want all tracks labelled 1991, so tracks 1-11 are 1974 and 12-14
are 1991. In the QuickRef the album gets labelled 1991. Is it possible
to either get it labelled with the year that most tracks are (ie 1974)
or have both years displayed? Obviously if you start displaying multiple
years then compilations should be excluded as these have the possibility
of having many years (if you date the track not the album as I do)

Just to test things, can you set the starting folder to a folder of

easy to verify the counts.

I think it is an inherent feature of the display multiplexing itself,
all my SB3s have it.

Years go we used this type of emissive display in a product, it had the

Since version 7.4, SBS prefers the ORIGYEAR tag (=TORY/TDOR)
over the YEAR tag (TYER/TDRC).

This means that if you are using the ORIGYEAR tag, in SBS the value of
the ORIGYEAR tag is mapped to all the normal year-fields in SBS !!. AAC
is then also using the ORIGYEAR value.

In my opinion, this a good behaviour.

If however an album has different ORIGYEAR values (for instance in
compilation albums, I set the ORIGYEAR tags of the individual tracks),
AAC will take the ORIGYEAR value of the last track of the album (=
mostly the youngest year).
This is a behaviour many media-players will do.

If you have an normal artist with more than one album, AAC sort the
albums by year.

AAC sort the albums of the Various Artists also by year.
I RATHER WOULD LIKE IF AAC COULD SORT THE VARIOUS ARTISTS BY ALBUM

Thanks for all the good work! For me AAC is almost perfect.:)

Re: [slim] lossless internet radio streaming in FLAC!

2010-01-05 Thread bebop

Very sad that this does not work on the SB's, the radio channel(s) I
enjoy most has just started streaming in lossless flag/ogg :-(

The new channels are all Absolute Radio's 4 channels(From UK), sounds
great on my PC, but I did not buy my 3 SB's to sit lifeless while I
listen to Internet radio from my PC, come on Logitech, prove that
chosing SB over Sonos was the right choiche if one wants high quality
audio.

quite ancient so maybe the market for it has dried up. maybe you could

Two big limitations with SB1:

1. It can't operate without your squeezecenter server running so you

2. My sb1 is starting to have problems playing certain internet radio

[slim] Cannot open file error resolved

2010-01-05 Thread Jcharmella

I don't know if anyone else is having this probem, but ever since I
updated to the 7.4 version of SC, I had a problem with 'Cannot open
File' errors. I believe that I have finally figured it out. The problem
is that I have a wireless N network at home and I had my SB on a 40Mz
channel, instead of the standard 20Mz channel.
I was playing around with this setting for other purposes, and as I was
switching back and forth between channels, at the 40Mz channel, the
problem always cropped up. I suppose this could also have something to
do with my router, which is the Netgear WNDR3700, but I am glad to have
this problem behind me. It also explains why no one else was reporting
this type of an error, I thought that I was going crazy...

It can only play natively WAV and MP3, so all other formats have to be
transcoded on the server. FLAC has to be transcoded to wav or mp3.

Also it can NOT take advantage of mysqueezebox.com, which is slightly
different I think than what is said in 1. Just to clarify you can not
for instance play Last.FM streams on it.

That was a standup option that Slimdevices did for its customers by

However I am seeing the end of its usefulness now that I have a Duet

To create a PDF you have to do the following:
 1. Install Bullzip
 2. Generate a Catalog with ACC
 3. Do a print preview and narrow the margins. Remove the header and
footer that is added by Internet Explorer/Firefox/Other
 4. If the page breaks are not at the correct positions (albums break up
in the middle or blank pages are added) you have to adjust the print
pagination settings in the advanced options and repeat steps 2 and 3.
Once figured out the settings are remembered end never to be looked
after again. The default settings are ok for A4 paper size with 'use
 large track font' disabled.
 5. Finally, Print the catalog and select the Bullzip PDF printer (or
Acrobat printer if you use Adobe Acrobat). A file location for the PDF
will be asked and the PDF is created.
It will not open up automatically as ACC has no knowledge of the
 filename you have chosen.

Just a note (maybe it is the clue you're after):
When an album name is used with different cases they are stored with
unique album ID. Example:
Jagged Little Pill
Jagged little Pill
Jagged little pill

are classified by SBS as three different albums. SBS itself has some
logics that upon presentation considers this as a single album. ACC

[slim] SB Classic won't stay in 'off' mode, faulty?

2010-01-05 Thread dave77

I've got a problem with my Classic which I need a bit of help on. It's
the latest model on 7.4.1

When 'on' the Classic works fine. When 'off' I'd like it to permanently
display the date and time so have set the appropriate screensaver. The
problem is that when 'off' with the date/time screensaver running every
so often the screen will go blank and not respond to the remote. Turning
off/on at the mains does nothing, the screen remains blank and it won't
turn on.

Turning off at the mains for 5+ mins and back on again usually does the
trick but the above problem keeps re-occurring.

Anybody had this problem before?

Re: [slim] FATAL: There is already another copy of the SqueezeboxServerrunning on this machine

2010-01-05 Thread bpa

The 3 file is probably the SqueezeSvr.exe and so the 3 name is the
MSDOS 8.3 form of the SqueezeSvr.exe name. The names are assigned as
the files are created so the 1 and 2 files are the tray or control
panel exe.

Only SqueezeSvr.exe (i.e. the 3 file) is the SBS which has the code
to open the 3483 UDP port - the other exe are just apps which start,
stop and monitor the SqueezeSvr.exe program and so you should only ever
get Fatal message whenever 3 is running.

Re: [slim] FATAL: There is already another copy of the SqueezeboxServerrunning on this machine

2010-01-05 Thread Tom Hutcheson

Understood. But SqueezeTray.exe and squeezeboxcp.exe are listed by name
(not in 8.3 mode). It just seems to be the only clue that the server
thinks that there could be another version running when there are no
other versions running. If you don't think it's significant though ok.

There are no other task manager references and from what I see there
are no 3843 udp netstat references indicating that something is using
the port. Very strange.

Can you get a log of the output of netsh winsock show catalog - this

Does the local server see the SB? What about fiddling with the

I downloaded both of the utilities. The ProcessViewer shows the
squeezesvr.exe pop into existence for about 8 seconds and then die. I
also see mysqld.exe starting and ending.

The TCPView shows activity for squeezesvr in the local 1350 range (I
think but it moves very fast). I don't see any attempt at 3483 (but
maybe I missed it but I don't think so) MySQL entries for 9092.

Logitech is a big company with a lot of products and divisions.

Would they be using Android as a platform for products, or would they
want to create Android apps for use with other products? An official
SqueezeBox app on the Android market place for example? or a harmony

Re: [slim] Android part of future squeezebox products?

Supposedly the position is in the digital home group. I know the
squeezebox guys are in the streaming media business unit. I figured
it could be that the SMBU is a division fo the digital home group.
Or, with the recent reorg, perhaps the SMBU is now the DHG. Who
knows...but it can be fun to speculate :-).

I didn't think of an app to talk to Squeezeboxes on an android device,
like iPeng. That would be pretty neat.

The multiple media playing was a bit worrying if it applied to our

But maybe bigger things - I am sure that Logitech need other media

RSVP may be a red herring but it is enmabled on your system and I feel
it is better to chase it down before doing the nuclear option of
deleting and re-installing the network interface. If you delete a
network interface you have to be confident that you have all the drivers
necessary to bring it up again otherwise the PC is left stranded.

RSVP is typically used for media operations so if you have or had
Windows MCE installed, RSVP would be enabled.

One place to check is Control Panel/Admin/Services/QoS RSVP - you could
try and turn it off or disable it and then see if it makes a difference.
