Re: [slim] Rebuffering is ruining the Squeezebox experience
I get 100% with my wireless all through the test range, so the network is not the problem with the buffering. It never ever happened until I went from 7.4.1 to7.4.2 and then I started having some problems. Only with flac and I was shocked at first because I had never experienced it before. Re: [slim] to wait for the touch or install a plug
Yes, I'd agree the strength of the Squeezebox platform is/will be really in the Internet Radio/Podcast area. Once one needs another CPU, there are many other very capable ways to stream from that, and far less likely to become obsolete as we are seeing with the ongoing BBC stream format changes. (Probably always solvable from a PC-side, if that leads the way.) I'd think a lot could and should be done just by adding the ability to save configurations (eg. Playlists, Plugins, etc) once obtained from initial or infrequent mysqueezebox.com connection (or even home server) on any future Squeezebox hardware (Touch?). That the SqueeezeServer seems to be remaining and even and becoming more 'centric seems to me likely coming mainly from the ongoing failure to develop mysqueezebox.com as a strong user/media portal, and what's being described here as a severe existing hardware limitation in the early boxes. (The 'S Radio' however may be able to turn things back in what I think is probably the right direction.) -SF -- sydsfloyd67 sydsfloyd67's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=36188 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74336 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] iPeng - sync issue or incorrect setting ?
socistep;512382 Wrote: > I had the Duet highlighted as active player, so it was correctly being > switched on, I know now for future > Yes, there's a bit of logic around switching synced players on/off: 1. If you play something, the currently selected player will always be turned on. If no player is "on" before that, the active player will also become the "master" of the sync group (little implication other than towards sorting the list) 2. If you press the main "power" button, it depends on the status: - If one or all players are "on", ALL players will be turned "off". This is the "leave home" function. - If all players are "off", ALL players will be turned "on". This is mainly because you don't really need to power on a single device due to 1. You can always control the individual players on the players page. ALL menu actions on the main menu refer to the active players, even menus itself can change, e.g. if some players have different Apps configured. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74728 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] iPeng - sync issue or incorrect setting ?
Hi I've noticed a potential bug with iPeng, has anyone else seen this ? or for pippin is this something you are aware of. I normally keep 3 players in sync, a Duet, a Boom and a radio, I either have all of them turned on at the same time or just play one or two zones at a time. Currently I have the Radio playing only and the Duet/Boom powered off, if I use iPeng to change album/playlist then it turns on the Duet in error (the Boom stays turned off) - as the Duet is in the living room this is bringing about understandable complaints from the other half who is watching TV. I tested this a few times with iPeng and had the same result, I then tried exactly the same process with Duet controller and the GUI on laptop and this worked as expected, I changed album/playlist and the Duet stayed powered off. Would appreciate any advice on this one. Re: [slim] Rebuffering is ruining the Squeezebox experience
I'm using 7.4.1 on my Readynas Duo these days, and I've only had very isolated experiences with gappy playback or rebuffering errors lately. I think the playback may have broken up once, and that could've been wi-fi interference from the microwave or something. Granted, by posting this I'm jinxing myself, but I think it's at least as important to announce when things are going right as when things are going badly. Partly in response to this thread, a bug (#13092) was created for this issue, and the work on that bug may have resulted in this problem being corrected in the latest version of the server software - or, maybe my stars aligned. Re: [slim] Some Good News For a Change
Don't really now, it was the missing features in stock firmware and the legendary stability in these third party software to got me on the way to use this. My old router could not to what i wanted and router software is in general buggy and badly supported. WOl from internet is deliberatly blocked in consumer netgear routers of that era ? I never used the stock fw i started the router found the upgrade menu and loaded tomato. I worked it the other way, researched which firmware would suit my needs and got myself a suitable router to run it on. And the old days this ways the router to have, it has good track record with squeezeboxes and was often suggested on this site for stable connection with squeezebox V3. With third party fw note that. If the stock fw works ok for you why change. Now with all these N routers and mimo and stuff it could be a bit old and on its way out, but i like it . It is not the fastet thing out there you now. I installed Tomato and it worked was planning to try DD-WRT but never got that far, i have no problem to solve anymore. be a bit careful with the radio power stock is 40mW you can crank it to 200mW but the radio can actually get noise problems that way 80-100mW is what most people do, I also use the 7dB extra large antennas you can get as an option, but they are more directional. Note that if you run it this way it needs good ventilation, don't put it directly on the pc, it was a warm summer day and could notice that my nternet speed was drooping untill I spaced it a bit above my hot pc :) -- Mnyb Main hifi: SB3 (soon to replaced by a Touch :) It is on preorder) Bedroom/Office: Boom Kitchen: Receiver (soon to be replaced by my SB3 and the SBR to be stuffed in a box in the attic ) I use a Controller various ir-remotes and a Eee-PC with squeezeplay to control this Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74672 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Making Squeezebox boom and server play synchronized
Welcome to the forums. The server software is just that, server software. It's not player software. To get the music to play from your computer you need to install player software such as SoftSqueeze, squeezeslave, or Squeezeplay. Even after you do that, however, perfect sync between a hardware player like the Boom and a software player is not guaranteed. It may work okay for you, or it may not. There are too many variables involved in the pc playback (eg, sound card driver latencies, etc) that the server cannot control. This may not be a problem for you if the pc and the Boom are far enough apart that you don't hear both at the same time. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74713 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

This you do on XP (IIRC) in Control Panel > System > Performance > Advanced, and on Win 7 Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > Performance > Settings > ADvanced. Are you on a laptop? Maybe disabling the ACPI (battery controller) could help. This you do in the Device Manager. BTW, IIUC, the 320 kbps is what DSBridge on-the-fly-converts to and sends to your SBS. If you have the free Spotify, you "only" get you something like 168 kbps, I think. So, even though SBS reports 320 kbps, this is a 168 kbps stream converted to wav and then to a 320 kbps stream, thus it can never have higher quality then 168 kbps (but I think that's acceptable). -- OppfinnarJocke // OppfinnarJocke SqueezeBox Duet, Controller FW 7.4.1 r7915, Player FW 65 I mainly use my Duet for internet radio via MySqueezeBox.com but also Spotify via chp's DSBridge (http://tinyurl.com/DSBridge) OppfinnarJocke's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22307 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64590 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Sorry i keep it, it actually functions rather well but... The sbr is just so dreadful to configure. I'm just a little miffed by the utterly ill conceived setup procedure of the duet system. I only want to change the DNS settings in the thing, this will force a full factory reset probably of both the sbr and the controller, this will probably not work then it's time to use net::udap . But it's still running fine on my old isp's dns hopefully it last until my Touch arrives :) -- Mnyb Main hifi: SB3 (soon to replaced by a Touch :) It is on preorder) Bedroom/Office: Boom Kitchen: Receiver (soon to be replaced by my SB3 and the SBRto be stuffed in a box in the attic ) I use a Controller various ir-remotes and a Eee-PC with squeezeplay to controll this Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74608 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Can't open file for....
The "cant open file for" message means SBS cannot transcode the requested item into an audio format which can be played on the player. So more info would help 1. What is the format of the audio you are playing ? 2. Have you enabled bit rate limiting ? 3. Are you synching with or using a software player ? -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74704 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

We brought this up in Beta, adding a review/edit screen for any/all such activities (changes to: MySB login ID & password, WiFi encryption, etc..). Other workarounds are to temporarily change SSID or encryption type. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74691 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Yes, I'm sure we'll see many new Apps to replace old Plugins. But which ones? How many? When will they be available? If I'm mixing old players with new players and using TinySC I'll lose the App/Plugin capabilities for the old players. For a current SB user who uses many Plugins, or just can't live without a particular Plugin, it would be a gamble to assume a replacement App for said Plugin(s) is coming and will function similarly to the existing Plugin(s). The new concept of TinySC is incredible, but comes with limitations and setup senerio issues that will add complexity to the buying decision of both new and existing SB users. :) -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73698 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Can't open file for....
I've seen a few posts on similar issues, but none seem to be the same setup. Mine is on a WIRED SB2, wired to wireless router, which connects to Win 7 x64 Ultimate running 7.4.1. I can't be sure if it all worked fine before 7.4, as I think I moved to that at the same time as Win7, but it is getting to be an issue. And I'm not sure where the fault is - my router is a old Dynamode one - not a common model. When not playing the SB often loses connection for a few seconds (clock vanishes and message appears) - but I think this is another issue Any ideas?
