There is also the SlimCtrl for Windows Mobile phones.

I have no idea how it compares to the other apps for smartphones. But
it beats the crap out of the browserinterface. http://sc.sciatec.de/

The browserinterface is nice for letting your guests access the
squeezeboxes. They get quite impressed by that. But for everyday use,
its not really an alternative IMO.

Re: [slim] No longer Scrobbling to Last FM

2010-03-02 Thread garym

Hmmm, not sure what's happening. similar set up (transporter and 7.4.2)
and working fine here. only difference I see is that I'm running XP. But
not sure why you have last.fm icon in system tray. What does this have
to do with scrobbling from squeezeboxserver? The last.fm app in SbS is a
different animal from the audioscrobbler plugin. The former is for
listening to last.fm and the latter is for reporting tracks to last.fm.

when in doubt, my first response is to (in order) 1. reboot router, 2.
reboot computer, and 3. stop and restart SbS. You can try just step 3
first and see if that works.

Also, additional suggestions:

1.on SBS/settings,recheck Audioscrobbler under player basic setup and
then go to advanced and reenter your username and password again.

2.reset your player username and password too.

No that is not the issue. I have a dedicated modern quad-core with 4GB
of RAM as my server and the webui is slow on an iphone browser. As
pippin stated beyond web interface just being sluggish, mobile devices
are slow at rendering pages. Nevermind the added control that Pippin
can add to the dedicated app such as the option to keep the connection
alive, and disable sleep. Both of which you can not do with a browser
interface, and both of which make the device more usable as a remote.

It is clear you have not used a dedicated app for control, so until you
do you may want to avoid commenting on how it compares to a web
interface.

[slim] SqueezePlay and Artwork Issues

2010-03-02 Thread Club1820

Anyone else having this issue? - For tracks that don't have artwork
embedded in the tag, SqueezePlay displays the artwork of another tag.
But not only this, it displays the SAME artwork for all tracks without
embedded artwork. Not sure how it picks the artwork, but for every
single track without embedded artwork, - it displays the same artwork
file even if I have the Folder.jpg in that given directory/folder.

The only way this clears up is if I clear the overall artwork cache.
But that only seems to be a temporary fix. Eventually SqueezePlay will
grab some other file's artwork and once again use it for all tracks
without embedded artwork.

Anyone else experiencing this with SqueezePlay. Not a big deal as its
not effecting functionality but its just really annoying to see the
same, incorrect artwork displayed instead of the folder.jpg.

Thanks in advance!

[slim] Synchronize Play without Power

2010-03-02 Thread fragfutter

How do you power off the SB Receiver?

I'm running a SB Radio and a SB Receiver. Those two are synchronized,
but only audio, not volume or power. When i start to listen to some
music on the radio, i can go over to the other room, switch on the amp
and voila, same music.

What happens if i listen to an internet station and simply turn off the
radio? The duett keeps on streaming. I won't notice because the amp is
powered off. Not very nice to the internet station.

Which options do i have to prevent this?

Press pause before turning off. Ok, i do this at the moment. But i will
forget this...

Power the duett off with the amp. But then the controller looses the
receiver and switches over, controlling the radio.

Sync Power. But then the radio starts to run the moment i listen to the
main system.

Write a small script that checks if i'm still streaming at three in the
morning and at least stop it then.

Any other ideas?

2010-03-02 Thread Locuth

I'll check the all tracks query for performance too.

Maybe I can collect the album artist information incrementally.

Like so:
When the complete album list is loaded (initially) I'll skip the
artist information.
And when individual albums or groups of albums (artist-query) are
loaded at a later time,
I query the artist information along and add it to the complete album
list.

As it is now, your NAS cannot deliver 20 albums in 10 seconds
(timeout).

Thats unacceptable for a complete list of e.g. 500 albums (=4 minutes)
But it might be permissable for 10 albums of a single artist.

If it needs to be removed though, would it be possible to make it

Without it checked, a basic query would be sent to the server, with it,
the full request. Or something like that anyway.

The newly announced Archos 7/8 tablets look nice, but a higher
resolution than 800x480 would really be great. Unfortunately, that's (at
the moment) the maximum resolution officially supported by Android.

One thing that I also do not like with these tables is that they do not
have hard keys for home/menu/back but they display these buttons in the
upper part of the display. It works, but you'll probably waste screen
space for these buttons... :-(

Furthermore, Archos seems to have some problems with its Android base
system. Many users complain about an unresponsive and slow system (at
least for the Android 5).

Looks like a great idea with high potential, but the current
implementation does not meet the user's expectations. :-(

Yes, a user-setting would be an option too.
I'll ponder over that tomorrow.

I finally gave the SlimControl manual a workover.

For those of you interested:

On thing missing is the artwork 'flip-side'.
But the rest looks pretty nice.

Re: [slim] Interesting Debate On Sonos

Wow, not much love for Squeezebox in that discussion! One guy posted he

I don't understand this notion that the SB products are for geeks. I
keep reading this when I see comparisons with Sonos. Is the setup of a
SB system really that hard? When did flexability become a bad thing?
You can make it as hard as you want (add plugins, use Linux, etc.), but
 it really isn't that bad.

Perhaps setting up a SB system is not as easy as plugging in your
toaster, but is it much harder than programming your microwave? Most
people seem to figure that out. My brother, a certified non-geek, set
up a Duet with no trouble whatsoever. I don't understand...

I fully agree. Before taking the plunge with a boom last December, and
a duet in January, I spent a lot of time on these and other forums in an
attempt to make an informed decision.
There is an awful lot of discussion out there about how Sonos works
straight out of the box, whereas the squeezebox takes some tweaking/is
more tempremental etc etc.
Eventually I took the plunge and went down the squeezebox route,
but I'm ashamed to say the decision was heavily influenced by the price.
If money was no object, I would probably have bought the Sonos.
I am now utterly addicted to playing music!! Setup was a breeze,
and I'm no geek.Everything does what it's meant to do,the sound is
awesome, and best of all there's loads of free advice on these forums if
needed.
I guess what I'm trying to say is perhaps we should focus more on
just how good this system is.

Re: [slim] iPeng vs. Android apps...?

2010-03-02 Thread Locuth

As several authorities have already said - you cannot compare the speed
of the web-interface of SqueezeCenter to a native application like
iPeng, SqueezeCommander or SlimControl.
The apps are much faster and more intuitive than the browser
interface.

Given that these apps cost a fraction of the hardware it all depends on
what you are willing to spend on the hardware. And what you'll be doing
with it besides controlling your SqueezeBox.

If you fancy an iPhone - go get it and iPeng comes for like 2% extra
money.
Same for an Android phone SqueezeCommander.

If you merely want to control your SqueezeBox get a PDA for 30 bucks
and SlimControl for another 15. If you want to be able to make phone
calls with your 'controller' get a reasonably priced smartphone like a
HTC + SlimControl.

Just my 2c.
Sebastian

I've got a problem with my SB Classic. When I want to play a random

the remote it is insistent that it will only play the first track!

I'm running 7.4.2 Linux on Sheevaplug. The problem was also there in

 Anybody got any suggestions??

No not really. Things to check:
- Firewall
- Is the SBS remote? - Enable remote MySQL access (always required
after an SBS upgrade)
