Re: [slim] Woeful sync SB3 Boom - just me?

2010-03-28 Thread awy

It is not the wrong time of day that is the issue, but the rate of
change of that time of day.

The synchronization process works by calculating, every second, the
-apparent- start time of the track for each player, based on the report
from each player of amount of the track that has been played (in
milliseconds) and the timestamp of that report. That timestamp is
converted to clock time by using the -time epoch- of the player, which
is tracked separately. When two players in a sync-group have different
apparent start times (by more than 10ms), the server tells one of them
to make an adjustment (usually by skipping a very small interval).

The algorithms use various smoothing and hysteresis functions to avoid
false adjustments. A system (server) clock that runs at a sufficiently
different speed to the clocks of the players will mess up this process.

Ah, I see. Sadly almost impossible to Google for more information on
how to correct, if indeed I can, as CPU clock speed is all that turns

Re: [slim] Licenses Agrrement for SqueezeBox-Server

2010-03-28 Thread fragfutter

*bump*

the license agreement
http://svn.slimdevices.com/repos/slim/7.4/tags/7.4.2/server/License.txt
states

Code:

Squeezebox firmare may not be redistributed under any
circumstances. It is (c) Slim Devices, and additonally contains
code which is (c) Ubicom. Ubicom's code is licenced to us only
for direct distribution in binary form. You may use the firmware
only on hardware manufactured by Slim Devices.

I think this is about the files in
http://svn.slimdevices.com/repos/slim/7.4/tags/7.4.2/server/Firmware/
(so all older SB-Devices).

So the question is, if it is allowed to:

* make a custom SB-Server Package (or system image) including the
Firmware. Downloadable free of charge, maybe integrated in a repository
(apt, yum)

* make a package without the firmware, but automaticly download and
install the firmware from svn.slimdevices on first start

* make a package without the firmware, inform the user about the
license, then automaticly download the firmware from svn.slimdevices.

* automaticly download an official package from slimdevices on first
start

i would welcome an offical statement and a reason why redistribution is
not allowed. I guess the firmware contains/used licensed code (mp3
decoder, fpga compiler, ip stack, ...) that is not allowed for
redistribution, but i can only guess.

 I've uploaded an 'ASIO only'

 package for you to try.

This release was built with the latest portaudio development library
r1485 and the latest cygwin build tools. Other than these two
differences the code is identical to the 0.9-133 asio release.

I tested this binary on WinXP with the ASIO4ALL driver and it recovered
from sleep including the audio. I started SS from the command line
 using;

 squeezeslave-asio-0.9-139.exe -r15 sbshostname

I then started a playlist and let it play for a few minutes and then
 stopped the player.

Then I let the computer go to sleep.

When I resumed the system I had the message 'Retry in 15 seconds.' in
the command prompt, I waited for the player to show up again in the
gui, restarted the previous play list and it worked including the
 audio.

I hope it works for you as well. Let me know.

 Thanks,

 Ralphy

Kept the fingers crossed, but no luck...no sound on resume.

I'll try as long as you will. Thanks, again.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android

2010-03-28 Thread TurnipMan

Hi,
I have an HTC Desire on the way and will get Squeeze Commander as soon
as I can.
Question: My music library is mostly in FLAC, does the file get
transcoded to mp3 on the way or as I'm expecting you just get it as
is?

Is there a plug-in anywhere for SqueezeBox Server that does the
transcoding for one? It would be really useful.

Re: [slim] Licenses Agrrement for SqueezeBox-Server

2010-03-28 Thread bpa

IIRC most of the distribution have asked the same questions and the main
issue is no firmware in the distribution - all necessary firmware is
downloaded automatically.

I think you also have to distribute the source code so a compiled
version as in the Windows distro is not allowed.

If changes are made to the source code - you will have to follow source
code licensing.

There are other licensing issues about other binaries from 3rd parties
such as faad which need to be examined.

SqueezeCommander downloads the music file in the same format as on the
SBS.

I would really like to implement an on-the-fly-transcoding, but that
needs a processing on the SBS. There's already an open ticket for that
issue, but unfortunately, nobody found the time to implement it yet:

If you have the necessary Perl skills, you would make many people very
happy by helping the Slimdevices team to implement the feature. :-)

There is also the requirement to obtain written permission to
redistribute logos, graphics, animations, and documentation. I don't
recall anyone who has done this and described the process in the forums.
I imagine it was pretty easy in the pre-Logitech days. No idea how it
is now or to whom, specifically, you should submit such a request.

Re: [slim] SB3 bricked? (perpetual reboot)

2010-03-28 Thread ToddSTS

Add me to the list of lucky people with this problem. I went away for a
week, when I came back my SB3 does this. Tried the factory reset, nada,
same behaviour as above. I will bust out the Torx bits and see if I can
get the wireless card out. My SB3 was bought way back in late 2005. It
has worked flawlessly till now. It appears to be a network interface
issue of some kind since when I link it directly to my router the link
light comes on with the logs and then goes out, until it resets again.
The Toslink light stays on the whole time as long as there is power.
Strange. Oh and I never had the mid-song reboot...went from perfect to
brick. Has anyone solved this issue?

Thanks.

Todd

FWIW: neither FreeNAS nor SlimNAS include the server code. SlimNAS only
provides the infrastructure to easily download/install/run SBS on FreeNAS.

I did include the server code in good ol' SlimCD. But that was probably illegal
(but nobody cared anyway), and a major pain for me to keep up to date. I
clearly wouldn't recommend it.
