[slim] Android

2010-05-03 Thread lrossouw

Thought this was interesting:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704302304575214433053915188.html

Google Inc. is planning to introduce Android-based television software
to developers at an event in May, according to people familiar with the
 matter.

The technology—designed to open set-top boxes, TVs and other devices to
more content from the Internet—is attracting interest from partners that
include Sony Corp., Intel Corp. and Logitech International SA, which are
expected to offer products that support the software, these people said.
None have so far discussed the efforts publicly...

I can imagine an Adroid based device running nicely as SqueezeBox,
including TV etc. Just pure speculation on my part though :)

[slim] hey, someone fixed the links on the top of this page!

2010-05-03 Thread aubuti

I just noticed that the links in the upper right of the forums pages
(Products | Support | Community) have been updated. For example, when
you click products, it takes you to the relevant page at
www.logitech.com, rather than the obsolete www.logitechsqueezebox.com.
It appears that the latter site still exists, and may still include
some useful information that isn't on the main Logitech site.

It's not a big deal, but when it comes to Logitech's management of SB's
presence on the web, even small progress is a big deal (however
belated).

[slim] 7.50 and Album Artwork Issues

2010-05-03 Thread jhonsber...@msn.com

Im not sure if anyone else is having problems with album artwork and the

new squeezecenter software but I am finding lots of weird issues.Im
running
a mac computer and all artwork is embedded in each music file.Unlike
prior
software updates, when I had no problems at all, some of the artwork
shows
and some doesn't.What is weird if when I refresh the web page, sometimes

the missing artwork will then show up.(but not all)I have cleaned the
cache, did a clean install and have noticed that during a itunes artwork
import there is, but
not always, mention of a parameter error.

Is this a scanning bug I wonder.

Is it allowed to cause audio hick-ups if a user press play ?

I suspect the problem with this is that it's going to affect the core

thing that I think would be possible to do as a plugin is a undo
playlist change functionality that makes it possible to restore a
previous playlist. However, I'm not really sure if this would be good
enough on a party, to me it feels like you want to catch it before it
has actually has modified the playlist.

One thing that might be possible is to re-define the play command so
it performs add instead, but I'm not sure if that will make it too
problematic to use the device ? I'm guessing you probably want it to
execute play if the user selects a playlist but add if he selects a
 track ?[/QUOTE

Thanks for the reply - I hadn't thought too deeply about the various
problems/ possibilities - more of a case of having tried and liked a
few of your plugins and wondering if you had any thoughts on the
 matter.
A plugin redefining the play command to offer a choice of play next
or add to end of playlist is all I was thinking of.
Again, I hadn't thought about different interfaces either. From my
own point of view it would be duet, boom, ipeng, and the web interface!

[slim] HELP! Terminally (?) sick squeezebox 3

2010-05-03 Thread SixedUp

Looks like my beloved Logitech SB3 is dying, if not already dead.

It's been a bit temperamental for a while, where if you move it, it
seems to turn itself off and then back on. A good look at the power
connector showed no problems, so I suspected some sort of bad
joint/connection deeper in the unit, but I've been loathe to open it up
without good need.

Yesterday may have provided that good need.

I was playing some music at low (digital) volume, 50% on the amp, when
the SB3 went wild. Music changed to static/electronic screaming, and
volume went to at least 100%. It was *way* louder than anything I've
heard before. By the time I'd turned it off it'd managed to blow a
tweeter in one of my speakers :(

I've been running it since (on high digital, low amp volumes) and it's
done it again a couple of times, and also when turning it on there has
been a steady electronic tone a couple of times too. Completely
disconnecting the power has been the only way to fix these problems.

The display continues to work fine, and shows the graphic equaliser for
what I suspect is the music it should be playing, rather than the noise.
Wireless and ethernet remote control etc all seem fine, right up to
the point of failure.

What are my options these days for repair or replacement? A quick read
here seems to indicate that Logitech won't even repair these now; this
makes me VERY sad, as the VFD was probably the main reason I bought the
SB3, and I now use it extensively for information displays. Is it really
not possible to get it repaired? If not officially, are there any
reputable 3rd parties that can take on this kind of problem, and at
what kind of cost?

Failing that, what are the current options for replacement? Looks like
the only model in the range with a display is the Touch ... which is
LCD, so nowhere near the clarity. Are there any retailers out there
with new stock of the VFD model SB3 still?

Thanks
Richard

it's malfunction has managed to blow a tweeter for you. I guess that's
a damned good reason to leave the player's volume at 100% at all times

the player does, it's already at 100% output and your preamp is at a

Playlist and Party Mode have been removed from Squeezebox Server

I've no idea how the other integrations work but I suspect that the
service would have to find the Spotify window and send mouse and
keyboard events to it. This is probably fairly easy if you are used to
Windows programming and fairly hard if you aren't.

The plugin part shouldn't be a problem, there are a lot of perl
knowledge here so I'm sure you can get help regarding that part if you
get stuck. Since I'd love to get a working Spotify integration myself,
I would probably be willing to contribute to the perl part if needed.
However, I don't plan to bring back the Windows programming skills I
discarded about 10 years ago.

[slim] SB vs. server decoding and other conundrums...

2010-05-03 Thread pipetman

Just got my SB Touch (and love it) and was excited to play some hi-res
files through it. Like many others I experienced some stuttering when
beginning to play 24/96 flac files and looking into the issue I came up
scratching my head about a few things:

- By default flac files are decoded by the SB. Apparently that can be
changed via the file type settings in the server configuration page.
But those options leave me a bit confused (and I couldn't come up with
a wiki page explaining those). Under FLAC the following is set:

FLAC - Native (Native/Disabled)
MP3 - Disabled (field greyed-out)
PCM - flac (flac/Disabled)

So, I'm not sure what the different fields are for and what kind of
effect I would see when selecting Disabled. And how do I turn on
server-side decoding via this dialog?

- I also played some 24/192 files. What happens to those, as the Touch
only plays 24/96 natively? Are they downsampled to 24/96 or to 16/44.1?
Is there any way to check what bit-depth/sample rate is actually playing
through the Touch?

Thanks!

[slim] Playlist Macro URL Commands - Maybe Kidsplay?

2010-05-03 Thread spedinfargo

Hi,

I'm VERY close to getting streaming radio from my Denon 3808 receiver
via the WaveInput plugin to go through the Squeezeboxen in the house.

I found a very simple way to control the Denon receiver via HTTP
commands which I picked out of their web pages served by the internal
web server.

For instance, these commands start Zone 2 and change the radio station
to preset A4:

http://192.168.1.6/ZONE2/s_zone2.asp?radioPower2=ON
http://192.168.1.6/ZONE2/TUNER/s_TunerPreset.asp?listPreset=A4

What I need is a way to send these commands to the tuner, and then fire
up the WaveInput plugin.

I manually created an M3U playlist with the two commands and then the
wavein:0.

This ALMOST works - but I need to hit next track on the remote to go
from what the squeezebox thinks is three separate tracks. When I cycle
through, it does turn on Zone two and changes the radio station and then
streams it, so it works in this regard.

Is there a way to do this without the next track button? I'm going
to explore Kidsplay plugin to see if that does what I need. Maybe I
should look into the M3U format a bit more (EXTINF, etc.).

Any thoughts?

Re: [slim] Playlist Macro URL Commands - Maybe Kidsplay?

2010-05-03 Thread peterw

We (3rd party folks) have talked a few times about making a cli
protocol handler so you could have an .M3U with entries like

squeezecli://player=00%3A04%3A20%3A11%3A22%3A33p0=buttonp1=fwd

to execute commands when you select a playlist, but there are some
inherent risks there. You don't want to open an HTTP address that
delivers an M3U with squeezecli: URLs that do things you don't want,
like change your Music Directory setting.

If you're using an infrared remote, then KidsPlay can definitely get
you most of the way there, maybe all the way there. But you haven't
said how you'd like to kick this all off, which would be a big factor.

Maybe another feature for KidsPlay would do it. Please install KidsPlay
and take a look at the 'kidsplayexec' documentation on the KidsPlay
global settings page. What if there was a KidsPlay protocol handler
such that you could have a URL in your M3U like

kidsplaymacro://player=00%3A04%3A20%3A11%3A22%3A33secret=123456type=JVCbutton=0

which, if the secret value matched that for your server (and you had
done the other things to enable kidsplayexec), would execute the
KidsPlay macro you programmed for JVC button 0?

Or maybe this should be a completely new plugin that would take URLs
like

squeezecli://player=00%3A04%3A20%3A11%3A22%3A33secret=123456p0=buttonp1=fwd

Most wireless routers will double as a wi-fi access point. If you
already have one, just use that. No need for another purchase.

Re: [slim] What do you do with CD inserts?

2010-05-03 Thread reverber

You might want to double check on the value of those cases before you
give them away. :)
There are collectors willing to buy vintage smooth-sided,
patent-pending CD cases, as well as Lift-Lock and a few other types of
specialty (Ryko green-tints, anybody?) cases at a premium.
I, for one, have set up shelving in a storage room to hold my CDs. If I
need to access additional artwork, I can always scan it and embed it in
my flac.

Give us a break... Since it appears more stations than one are trying

Radio and Touch, not the older players.

So, is it not physically possible on the older players, or have they
been EOLed for firmware updates?

It appears that the latter site still exists, and may still include

It's not a big deal, but when it comes to Logitech's management of SB's

 belated).

Yes. Just like SBS used to be other things.

I signed-up for the free 30 day subscription via My Apps.

It turns out they billed me after 14 days. It was all my fault.

Get with it Logitech!

Re: [slim] SB vs. server decoding and other conundrums...

2010-05-03 Thread Phil Leigh

pipetman;543049 Wrote:

 Thanks!
It's simple...and complicated.

By default, FLAC is sent as FLAC to the Touch and decoded there -
that's the FLAC/Native entry
If you set FLAC/Disabled then one of the other entries will be used
(MP3 or PCM) If PCM is enabled that will be used (FLAC converted to PCM
on the server and sent as PCM to the Touch). If PCM and FLAC are both
disabled, FLAC is converted to MP3 via LAME (which needs to be
installed specially - that's why it's greyed-out on your setup at the
moment).
If all 3 are disabled nothing will play!

If you play a 24/192 flac, it is converted via SOX on the server to
24/96 flac (176.4 is converted to 88.2) - you can't change this
directly via Settings, it requires editing of the custom-convert.conf
file.
