Hi Christian,
In the major update to SC sometime last winter, you removed the ability
to sort albums by album artist (album artist - year , or album artist -
album title as options) rather than only by album title.
This sort option still exists on the official SB software, like SB
Controller (I think it is the default?)
You originally put the option in as a request by me, in the beta
program -
and I really miss it! :-)

Why?

My wife won't use the app after option disapeared :O
Pls put it back in... :-)

probably more optimized for usage with a multi core CPU than SQLite.

It's not the CPU at least not with the High MySQL configuration
provided with SBS. I just tried it on the Core2Duo laptop (still on
Linux and 7.6.1 r33004 with MySQL 5.0.21) and I'm seeing the same thing
as in the single core virtual environment, MySQL is is a lot slower than
SQLite.

It's only using one of the cores, both with SQLite and MySQL, so number
of cores doesn't seem to have any effect, at least not as long as you
don't use the system for other things while scanning.

[slim] Transcoding/Buffering...

2011-08-10 Thread staresy

Hi,
I have a system with a WHS server, a wired player, a wired radio and a
wireless radio. All the music on the server is FLAC.

All is fine except streaming FLAC to the wirless radio is a bit
intermittant. So, can I increase the buffer size in the wireless
radio?

Or, I've read something about transcoding to MP3 on the fly - how is
this done?

Can I just transcode to the wireless radio, and still serve FLAC to the
wired players. That would be OK as the wireless radio is used mainly for
internet radio and anly occasionally for musio off the server.

Any pointers how to set this up, is it easy or do I need to be a
computer scientist for this? :-)

Ta
DrS

From the Squeezebox Server web interface, select Settings, choose the
wireless radio player and then Audio. There should be drop-down box for
Bitrate Limiting. You need the LAME encoder installed server-side, it'll

[slim] Alternative display for SBTouch - old tablet or the like?

[slim] SqueezePlay stopped working on XP

2011-08-10 Thread Squid

Since somewhere today, SqueezePlay has stopped working. I sometimes use
the emulator on both my music workstation (XP Pro) as well as my
regular desktop (XP Home).
After a lot of fiddling, reinstalling and rebooting, and nothing
working, I thought I'd try it on some machines that never had
SqueezePlay installed. Interesting result: on my netbook (W7 Starter)
it works without a problem. On my fileserver (XP Pro) however, it isn't
working either.
The weird thing is that it initially does talk with Squeezebox Server
as it can retrieve the name of my collection (I changed the name and
the change was seen at client side) but once I want to connect to that
collection, it will time out with an error.

Today there were a bunch of Windows Updates though, so I wonder whether
that has broken things on XP.

Re: [slim] iPeng 'Your player was not found'

2011-08-10 Thread dicksons

Hi,

I am looking for some help because I am getting the error Your player
was not found. Here is the scenario:

1. Squeezebox server 7.6.1 running from a QNAP NAS
2. Squeezebox Boom connected and playing tracks OK.
3. I can operate the SqueezeBox Boom from Boom itself - no problem.
4. I can operate the SqueezeBox Boom from server web interface - no
problem.
5. Open iPeng 1.3.5 on iPhone4 iOS 4.3.5 then the problem starts

Without touching any controls on iPeng

a) Squeezebox Boom freezes
b) I am unable to switch tracks or make any changes
c) The Squeezebox Boom continues to play existing track
b) iPeng says Your player was not found

To fix the problem I need to exit from iPeng and after about 30
seconds, the Squeezebox Boom unfreezes. This is the 1st time I have
used iPeng. My wife has been using it succesfully until recently, but
now she is having the same problems.

Q: Does anyone know how to fix this iPeng problem?

Thanks for any advice.

Also combine this with how the corresponding line in the playlist file

and after SqueezePad has been started once, it's ready to receive new

and squeeze boxes. I found that the past few weeks I was having music
stop playing intermittantly. I traced it down to the fact that a quest
had started using her iphone on my wifi. This was enough to put it over
the edge. She left for home and the issues went away. Just yesterday I
had the issue occur again. I found one of my children had a friend over
and they connected their itouch to the wifi. I had them disable it and
the problem went away.

In my case my music is from my library on my squeeze box server so I do
not need internet or wifi for it if I had Sonos. I would not run cable
drops to solve the problem.

I do not like propritary things like a Sonos mesh network but I think
in my case the advantage of it might be better than intermittant
issues. Not to say there is no issues on a sonos network, I just think
they may be less in regards to the issue I am having.

Even with the issues I will tough it out for a bit as I hate to give up
and as well spend more money. Even selling all my squeeze boxes would
require me to dig into my pockets for more money to replace eveything I
own with Sonos and I would miss my booms.

[slim] Help about network Receiver configuration

2011-08-10 Thread iperkut

Hi,
I've just receive my new Squeezebox receiver.
I plan to associate with my Android phone (Nexus S), but since this
afternoon i
I don't have a Squeezebox Conroller so i use net udap with my computer
to configure the receiver.

My network look like that :

My router :
SSID : WiFi
WEP : 1234567890
CHANNEL : 7
@ : 192.168.0.1
DHCP POOL : 192.168.0.2/192.168.0.20

My computer :
Wireless connected to my router
@ : 192.168.0.2

Squeezbox Receiver :
Wired connected to my computer
No ip address

I've installed on my computer SqueezeBox Server so my squeezebox server
addresse should be 192.168.0.2 ?
I've a lot of question about the functioning of the receiver.

What I've understand :
The receiver is conneced to the router throw wifi.
My computer is also connected to the router, so receiver can access to
my computer and the squeezebox server thows my computer. I'm right ?
To configure receiver i have to be connected to him throw wire (and
it's works)
Then, i don't understand how my phone can manage squeezebox receiver ?
My phone have to be connected to my wifi (ssid WiFi) to have access to
the receiver throws the router ? Or it's have to be connected to the ad
hoc network of the receiver ?

So, if i do what i've said i've got that :
bridging: 0
hostname:
interface: 0
lan_gateway: 0.0.0.0
lan_ip_mode: 1
lan_network_address: 0.0.0.0
lan_subnet_mask: 255.255.255.0
primary_dns: 0.0.0.0
secondary_dns: 0.0.0.0
server_address: 192.168.0.2
squeezecenter_address: 192.168.0.2
squeezecenter_name:
wireless_SSID: WiFi
wireless_channel: 7
wireless_keylen: 0
wireless_mode: 0
wireless_region_id: 14
wireless_wep_key_0: 1234567890
wireless_wep_key_1:
wireless_wep_key_2:
wireless_wep_key_3:
wireless_wep_on: 1
wireless_wpa_cipher: 1
wireless_wpa_on: 0
wireless_wpa_mode: 1
wireless_wpa_psk:

But i dont understand parameters for lan settings
(lan_gateway,lan_network_address etc..) ?

In the first time, my computer is going to be the squeezebox server
(nas is the future).
So if my Lan setting on my computer are :
@ : 192.168.2.1
Mask : /24

How should I set the different parameters ?
What are primary/secondary dns ? If I set configuraton to DHCP, lan
setting (connected to my computer) don't need to have dns ? Right ?

Thanks and sorry for my english lvl :)

2011-08-10 Thread Mnyb

having 14 neighbouring network i decided to cable as much as possible.
sonos mesh would probably not help as it uses the same freq band.

Also one should investigate the limits of ones router, a little known
fact repeated on this forum is that some makes models don't conect more
than for example 16 devices over wifi, a big household with a lot of
devices in a big house may need multiple access pionts, I think some
expect to much of thier 50$ router, or worse some frebee thing provided
by the isp ( where you are not allow to see or change settings, avoid ).

The 65K track limit is the deal breaker for Sonos. I just helped a
friend set up his newly acquired SB3 ($136 incl. shipping from e-bay)
to replace the $$$ Sonos system for that very reason. It baffles me
that the company would have put such an unnecessary limitation on the
size of the music library.

Re: [slim] Help about network Receiver configuration

2011-08-10 Thread sebp

Hi,

To configure the Receiver with Net-UDAP, you'll need to have it
connected with a wire to your router.
Connecting your PC and Receiver together may work, but chances you'll
get into problems are more likely.

Once Net-UDAP is able to discover your Receiver, you'll have to
configure it so that it uses your wireless network.

It's up to you to decide whether you want the Receiver connected to
your LAN wired or wireless, and whether you'll use the DHCP protocol or
provide static IP configuration, but to begin with, I'd go for the
simple 'Wireless, 64-bit WEP, DHCP'
route.

Basically, you'd just have to change these values from the sample:

Code:

wireless_SSID=WiFi wireless_wep_key_0=1234567890
squeezecenter_address=192.168.0.2

When you're done configuring the Receiver, it'll hopefully connect to
your wireless router, get an IP address from it, and will connect to
the Squeezebox Server running on your PC.

Your Android phone will only have to be connected to your wireless
network.
Depending on the controller app you'll use, you may need to specify
which IP address the server is using.

That depends on whether your office allows tcp ports 3483 and 9000
or any other non-standard ports out to the internet.

The client I prefer is SoftSqueeze which is available as a plugin,
making it very easy to install from remote machines.

The other issue is that you have to open ports on your internet modem
to allow remote access.

You could look here:

If you have questions about this please ask.

+1
That and the Sonos price were the dealbreakers for me when I got my
first SB almost 6 years ago. Also, I thought that Sonos's old
two-hander remote was a dud, even though many people drooled over it at

Like TiredLegs, I'm happy with my SB system, but if I were starting
from scratch today I would give Sonos a closer look, especially because
I question Logitech's commitment to the SB line.

Re: [slim] Support for Logitech Revue (GoogleTV)?

2011-08-10 Thread erland

Depends what you mean, if you mean accessing the music library in SBS
and play music from it on the Revue, I think the plan is to support
that in Squeezebox Server 7.7.

However, there aren't any indications that it will ever support
Squeezebox specific features like synchronized playback between two
players.

[slim] SqueezeCommander issues.

Of all the apps this has always been my favorite. But since the update
where the UI was changed (0.9.6.1) I often have problems connecting to
my local SBS. Restarting and rebooting the phone is of no use, after a
day or two it will start working again. All my other controllers
connect just fine, just SqueezeCommander has problems. This is a shame
as I want this to continue being my favorite app but my patience is
getting the best of me. :-)
