Re: [slim] MusicIP Mixer server status
Just ran GenPUID to analyse some tracks and it's working fine. I don't think Gracenote has any incentive to block access to the MusicDNS server because people using it enrich the MusicDNS database which Gracenote in turn uses for commercial purposes. digital groove | Vivere DAC MKI | ATC SCA2 | ATC SCM100ASLT *'Linux finally gets a great audio tagger' (http://www.ubuntugeek.com/linux-finally-gets-a-great-audio-tagger.html): 'puddletag' (http://puddletag.sourceforge.net/)* - now packaged in most Linux distributions. audiomuze's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33613 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99235 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Save this preset as "HR > To 24/48". Thanks for all the detailed steps, I couldn't have asked for more! I did all you said above with foobar2000, and am now listening to the previous problem tracks with no problems at all :) When I went for the SoX resampler I was a bit confused about which of the options to pick, and opted for the "normal version 0.8.3". Since all seems to be working well, I guess I didn't make too bad a choice. One problem remains, likely till the next re-boot of my main PC. I burned the problem tracks to a CD with Media Monkey Gold, and all seemed well. But Windows Media Player produced only silence, and the 'eject' command produced an error message. Pressing the eject button on the CD drive didn't work either, so the CD is going to have to stay in the drawer till the next re-boot! And I thought that was going to be easier than foobar... Thanks once more for your helpful input, Garym. It seems that the problem I've got must be lack of horsepower in the ancient PC hosting Vortexbox and LMS. 1. No, I've not changed anything in the advanced settings. 2. The last - I just meant Windows Media Server on my fast PC was getting the flac files over the network from the ancient PC where LMS is, and LMS wasn't involved. Sorry for the red herring with mp3. I converted those first just to check that there was valid music in the problem files. And forgot to delete the reference to mp3 before posting. And I conclude that neither Medie Monkey Gold nor FlicFlac offer conversion to 'simple' flac. At least, I couldn't find any configuration options that suggest they do. Since the output files from both give the same faulty play via the SB Duet, I guess the files are coming out pretty much the same hi-res as they went in. And as you'll see from my next post, Foobar2000 did the trick. Squeezebox Duet digital into Yamaha RX-V2700 and Jamo speakers; analogue into Speakercraft MZC-66 for whole house system. [slim] Media player takes over
Hi folks, We just moved our playlist over to another computer via an external hard drive which we are using to play the music, We will put the files on permanently later. The playlist which are m3u files show up as media player files and slimserver will not accept the playlist. When we try to play it it shows as 0 files in the playlist.. The music files are all there on the ex drive . If we click on an album in the music folder and make it a playlist it again shows as a media player file but will play even thou it shows as a media file. ( the existing playlists will not play ) Trouble is we can not get the existing playlists to play. We have tried everything! We use xp pro slimserver 6.5.4 and the music files are saved as flac saved using windows word 2007 As I said we have tried everything, we are now trying to get rid of Media player hoping that will help. Everything has worked for years, why media player has reared it ugly head we can figure out Any suggestions and help would be grateful, redoing the playlist is not a option as it is custom sorted with song placed in specific order ( 3469 songs ) Thanks Steve wp steve's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8822 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99237 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Information can be found 'here' (https://developers.google.com/cast/). Very restricted system - no local streaming (audio only via Google Music, video from Youtube etc. - you can't even send e.g. pictures from your mobile/tablet), limited media support (e.g. no flac, xvid), only HDMI output, Apps have to specifically support it, etc. It might be possible to build an app to implement the missing functionality, but I don't see the point in doing so - a regular android stick (or even a Raspi) is much more versatile (and open), and basically the same price [ extGUI4LMS - an alternative web interface: 'forum' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?98186-Announce-Alternative-Web-Interface-(beta)) / 'homepage' (http://code.google.com/p/extgui4lms/) ] Roland0's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=56808 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99234 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

FYI, Future Electronics and others are now selling the Wandboard CPU modules in 10 packs for projects just like this. The price savings isn't huge, but it's something. Hardware question: If you wanted to mount the CPU module and carrier board in a larger chassis, could they be laid out side by side and connected with a cable, or do they have to be piggybacked directly through the EDM connector? Not specifically Squeezebox related, but close. For anyone still using MusicIP Mixer... Just recently (last night and today), MusicIP Mixer can no longer connect to its server, and gives the message 'The MusicIP server cannot be reached. Re: [slim] Pre-Announcement: ickStream Music Platform
As an LMS (Touch) user, I have been looking at alternatives. The main listening is done in my lounge, remote from the music server, connected via Ethernet. The closest I got to a working alternative that can make use of custom tags (for classical music) was: - flacs still on my Vortexbox as usual (but not using the DLNA server provided) - foobar2000 on my main deskptop Linux PC (under Wine), reading the flacs from the Vortexbox, with the UPnP plugin, using foobar's customised DLNA menu facility (which can read custom tags) and acting as the server over Ethernet - one or another UPnP controller on my (wireless) laptop Linux PC or SmartPhone controlling foobar2000 - my hi-fi pre-amp supports UPnP (over Ethernet) but the menu is worse than useless, hence the use of a laptop (or smartphone) as a controller This all almost works, except that the controllers are all very unreliable (crashing regularly, failing to read the menus, and so on), so near useless for regular listening. foobar2000 is a wonderful, peerless, tool, and I wouldn't be without it, even with LMS. I use it for playing music near the server, checking tags (set using puddletag or mp3tag) and format conversion. I have built up (filter) menus not unlike those I have in Custom Browse in LMS. I can listen to my music in other rooms via wired PCs and foobar2000, without using UPnP. This doesn't provide any synchronisation, but I have rarely wanted to do this except to prove LMS can do it well. If I have to I could also run foobar2000 on my laptop in the lounge, plug the laptop into the Ethernet, and play music out via the async USB DAC in my hi-fi, but that leaves wires all over the room which I don't like. The reason for describing how my non-LMS system would work is that I wonder whether ickStream will have the ability to plug the main hole in this solution, i.e. provide a reliable UPnP Controller, or provide some other solution to drive my pre-amp direct without using my LMS Touch, with customised tags and menus. My Duet stumbles over them, with the music coming out slower than it should and sounding as if the musicians are stuttering! The tracks play OK in Windows Media Player on a fast PC, served by my old PC running VortexBox and Logitech Media Server. But they don't play properly on the Duet, served from the same source. The bit rate shown in the file's properties are around 3500kbps, with an audio sample rate of 96kHz. And the files are huge, 1.5gb for the 13 tracks on a 62-minute CD. So I guess I need to transcode. So could I please get some practical help with the steps to do that. The tools I currently have are Media Monkey Gold (MMG), and flicflac (FF). What I've tried so far: Used both MMG and FF to convert to wav, and to mp3 320k. Then I've converted the wav back to flac using both FF and MMG. And I'm no further forward, the files still won't play properly on the Duet - and they are still huge.
