Have you actually tried to set up the actual playlist folder as playlist
folder NOT as music folder to see if all playlists apear under playlists
? and the music folder as a music folder ?

I would also consider experimenting with scanning only the playlist
folder , if we want to tinker with unorthodox ways of using this
software .

The files themself ? Are they reasonably tagged ? This is essential for
a usable experience with LMS .

Re: [slim] Shortcuts in the Playlist Folder

2014-01-20 Thread M7CC

reinholdk,

I'm talking about the player (and server) menu under "Music Library"
(which contains folders for Artist, Album, Playlist etc etc, and Music
Folder). Until now I was able to user Music Folder but now I get the
"cannot request" error I mentioned above. I am only partial to Music
Folder because it retains whatever folder structure I want. The
Playlist folder only lists the contents of a single folder. Assuming
the shortcuts did work -- I would still want to keep them broken out by
folder. I guess I'm a weirdo -- but this seems perfectly logical to me
(maybe not the means, but the end does anyway). :o

In any case I was not aware of this symbolic link thing and will give it
a try and report back. Fingers crossed... If anyone else is able to
pull off what I'm trying to do please chime in.

Thanks all...

Re: [slim] Shortcuts in the Playlist Folder

2014-01-20 Thread M7CC

Mnyb,

Yes I can, but I have to pick one folder (without shortcuts). So
currently I only have access to one of my playlist folders from the
player menu.

I can't recall how I came up with this workaround. It was like 8 years
ago. I'm willing to do it however it takes, as long as I can segregate
m3u files by folder. For me it's 1000 times easier to maintain
consistency and control over the naming of a few thousand playlist files
than managing tens of thousands of individual tags -- even with MP3tag.

Re: [slim] Boom bust

2014-01-20 Thread ModelCitizen

Thanks chaps. I couldn't find the replacement Boom psu on the Logitech
web site (the search facility iscvery poor) so in the end* I ordered the
12v 2.5amp one from the UK Mouser store. I didn't bother getting the UK
power fitment as it looked the same as the one on the original beta Boom
supply (fingers crossed then!).

I have say I feel entirely ripped off. The Mouser PSU at £13.40 seems
reasonable enough but to then add an incredible £12 for postage just
makes you feel cheated. I will try to avoid Mouser in future if I can.

Thanks for all the help.

Yeah, hard to say what's going on.

Guessing they've been too slammed putting together the new service to
give much thought to the old MOG.

I hadn't seen any communication about what they were planing, and if
they shutting down MOG, how they were planning to transition those
customers.

It seems good that they're giving it a bit more time. That sure beats
(Beats!) just doing a reflexive, thoughtless shut down.

The NAD D 7050 came out this past summer 2013. Although it's on back
order, I think the iDevice dock will be one way to stream 24/96. It also
is UPnP compliant. But the UPnP controllers are no iPeng! So I will use
iPeng with AirPlay or the dock for 16/44 material, which is 99% of my
library.

16/48 is the maximum, everything having higher sample rates will get
downsampled.
16/44.1 will be left as it is.

That said If your AirPlay receiver is an AppleTV which only has an
HDMI output which only supports 16/48, the 44.1 material will obviously
get upsampled by the AppleTV.

Hi Greg,
the Bottlehead and CSP have the same DAC topology the differences are
that the CSP is JUST a squeezebox player, the BH does USB and S/PDIF. So
if you are a SB person, going with CSP gives you a more focused option.
For the BH DAC the filter parameters are built in to the FPGA, you can't
change them, for CSP the filter is done in software on the wandboard,
you can change the parameters via a webGui any time you want.

On the PS front the BH comes with a battery which gets the best out of
it. The CSP has a jack, you can plug whatever you want into it. I had
not thought about using separate supplies with the CSP. In order for it
to work there will have to be some changes to the board layout and some
way to select single or double supply. There is no way to do this with
the boards as they are currently layed out. I will have to think about
this one and see if there is any way to do this.

"Offline" mode still works ok with the GUI; I added 4x albums this

OK, most of my library is 16/44 so this will work.

The manual says "applicable for direct playback of iOS device only.
Using applicable Apple USB connector, connect your device to this
input". I just assumed that the lightning cable will work since it has a
USB connector on one end.

Neither. The Bluetooth stack needs to support the codec. Apps can't
change Apple's Bluetooth stack so if iPad doesn't support the codec, you
can't use it.

Don't know about AptX but please be aware that AirPlay only supports
16/48 so if you use AirPlay, iOS will downsample your stream to that
(the 16 bit don't hurt as much as with other transmissions because
volume will be sent separately). The stream uses lossless ALAC.

Well, the iPad doesn't have a USB port so you need a Lightning-to-USB
adaptor. Also, the iPad has to act as a USB host. Lightning generally
supports that but whether your DAC is compatible is something I don't
know. AFAIK the DAC needs to be part of Apple's MFI program for that.

With the old iPads you could use the CCK but I am not sure that will
still work to full resolution (it might, I just don't know) since you
would put up quite an adapter stack (Lightning->30-Pin->USB).

One other Q. My understanding is that iPad Air (iOS 7) does not support
AptX Bluetooth. Is hardware required, or does iPeng 7 Player support
AptX? Ultimately, I plan to stream to my iPad Air from server via
LMS/iPeng and then stream from iPad to receiver via AirPlay and/or aptX

Regarding the exchange above regarding the dock, my understanding is
that my receiver (NAD D 7050) is capable of 24/96 via its USB "dock"

Hmmm. How to answer that. I'd be fibbing if I didn't say that we're
still in the development cycle, but assuming you have a little patience,
can download a software image, follow the on-line instructions, (which
are targeted at the non-techy user with a Window$ desktop, rather than a
Unix guru), could a non-technical user end up with a working set-up
today, the answer is, yes. If you expect a shrink-wrapped product, I'm
afraid it isn't that, and in some places the software is still a little
rough around the edges, but for the most part it already works pretty
well! ;)

Michael, (Logitech developer), is still maintaining LMS on a day to day
basis. Whilst one could argue that it isn't being actively developed,
there is no arguing that it is actively maintained. Having said that,
there has been a little development going on recently to add DSD support
by the community and that should be finding it's way back upstream to
the Logitech 7.8 trunk git, and be available to all, sometime soon.
