I felt I overpaid for Sonos Connect. IT is easy to setup but does have
the limitation you mention above.  It seems Sonos is not catering to the
Audiophile folks.  People having been requesting on their forum about
hi-res and >65K tracks for many years but yet the Connect does not get
updated. For me it works fine so I am happy but I can see why heavy
users such as yourself need to look elsewhere.  I wonder if Bluesound
will become a good alternative at some point?

I agree although Sonos as upnp devices are providing a really good
solution (gapless, better res that AirPlay) except sync - I wish they
want to release their sync, but they believe, right or wrong, that's
this is their crown jewel. To me, at the risk of offending audiophiles,
AirPlay was the best compromise and I put a lot of work to make this
work. You have everything except hi-res. It's very transparent to LMS

Phillipe's bridges are of course excellent and open up a whole range of
players to the Eco system but unfortunately they all have compromises
IMHO. hi-res, gapless playback, sync etc
The only non Logitech player that fulfills all the criteria to date
seems to be a Pi with DAC. It's the only thing that could realistically
be considered Audiofool compatible.
I understand why people choose Sonos but it doesn't work the way I want
my music players to do.
Why Logitech, why?

Since GoogleCode has gone dark the repository is no longer available.
You have to download manually the plugin. 
Then, last time I've tried installing the plugin I've found a bug in a
post-install script that could damage the /etc/sudoers file format. I
don't know if the bug is still there but I suspect it is. 
For all these reasons, I would recommend reading post #1, then *read
posts on pages 213 down* (to 216, as of now...)

Installing is not complicated, even today. Simply I advise a bit of
caution during post-install. With that, I think you'll find SPC runs
great.

I bought a SONOS Connect last year just to play with. It is simple to

to Squeezeboxes and controllers such as iPeng (the SONOS controllers are
fairly rudimentary, but get the job done of course).  But the main
limitations for me are the inability to deal with the size of my music
collection (> 65k), lack of certain nice apps related to playing BBC or
BBC extras, podcasts subscriptions, etc.  Not being able to play hi-res

I made the switch to Sonos and  I was pleased to see how easy it was to

I might be missing something here, but when I use Walk with me, it gives
me two options:

1) Continue playback on PLAYER_1, stop PLAYER_2
2) Sync to PLAYER_1

Isn't the first one you are looking for?

You can use the Switch Player plugin for this. It can send or grab the
music to/from another player.

Not that I really care about Bitbar or the like, but I'd like to point
we have a great power management plugin thanks to gharris999.
It can do this, among a great many other things (characters unescaped
for readability):

$  nc  montreux.local 9090
  srvrpowerctrl screstart
  srvrpowerctrl screstartscrestart in 15 seconds.
  
  srvrpowerctrl reboot
  srvrpowerctrl rebootreboot in 15 seconds.


"screstart" restarts the LMS service.
"reboot" restarts the whole machine if you've configured the plugin to
fit your machine's specifics.

I think that way's more portable than some remote command execution.

Now after testing for almost 2 weeks, I still cannot nail it down as a
network or a router error (despite shutting down all my 4 gigabit
routers).

However, I noticed the bug was more pronounced when I used iPeng to
play. Once I forward a track and let the music plays in the background,
it'll only take a few songs (or perhaps a few dozen songs) before the
"playing beyond track" starts all over again, and forwarding the jammed
track via iPeng will also produce the bug much more matured than if I
use LMS.
