Re: [slim] Transporter + Mixcloud UNABLE TO PLAY FILE TYPE

2019-09-09 Thread toolapcblack

LMS 7.9.1
OP Sys Red Hat Transporter firmware 87, Touch 7.8
when the Touch is connected to the LMS it has no problem playing
Mixcloud but alas Transporter comes up with the error "UNABLE TO PLAY
FILE TYPE FOR"

In the settings/advanced/mixcloud
Mixcloud API key (which i have filled in)
and
Stream Format
=( use mp3 if available or always use mp4) ive tried both to no avail

Settings /advanced /file types
mp3 MP3 native
mpeg4 AAC native
FLAC faad/flac
MP3 faad/lame
PCM faad

Regarding Daphile: it's intended usage is indeed directly connected to
a DAC, and for this it includes a squeezelite instance, but it also
still is a regular LMS, to which you can connect any number of other
players. The drawback of the installed Squeezelite instance is that
you'll always see a player you don't use, but that's just about it. The
big advantage of Daphile is that it's a stripped down OS optimized for
doing nothing else than LMS-related work and installs as a complete
package. In other words it's ideal for your intended use, with the
slight overhead of the additional player available.

I'm not whether LMS supplied executables play on Red Hat also you
haven''t said what architecture: Arm vs x86 , 32bit vs 64bit.

To check whether your system transcoding is OK - try to play a plain
http/AAC stream on your Transporter such as

Am I correct in thinking that to get SSH (ability to tinker) you need to

Good - that means it is not a platform or a wider transcoding issues -
just specific to MP4 streams.

I don't know Mixcloud but LMS is currently unable to transcode MP4
stream (e.g. MP4 podcast) , LMS is OK with MP4 file and with player who
can play MP4 natively such as Touch/Radio and Squeezelite.

There is a way to enable LMS but it means installing ffmpeg( aka avconv)
on your system to do the MP4 transcoding instead of faad.

To confirm my suspicion - can you enable logging
"WebUI/Setting/Advanced/Loging) and set player.source to INFO, note time
and then try to play a problem track.
The copy the all log output from noted time to a post.

Re: [slim] Transporter + Mixcloud UNABLE TO PLAY FILE TYPE

2019-09-09 Thread bpa

Seems this issue is a well known Mixcloud issue (e.g.
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?88286-Mixcloud-plugin&p=937826&viewfull=1#post937826
)

I have a workaround for streaming MP4 which I think should work for
Mixcloud.

The URL below can be used to check whether workaround has been installed
OK.

Below is a MP4 podcast (i.e. streaming MP4) . I think it will not play
on your system
http://rf.proxycast.org/1612510365621428224/12283-06.09.2019-ITEMA_22141719-0.m4a

To make streaming MP4 work - do the following.

1. Install ffmpeg on your system (e.g. perhaps "yum install ffmpeg" )
and check it runs.
2. Download the attached "*custom-convert.conf.txt*"
3. copy the file into your LMS directory which already has convert.conf
(see
4. rename the file to "*custom-convert.conf*" - just dropping the
".txt"
5. Restart LMS and check MP4 Filetype - (WebUI
Setting/Advanced/FileTypes) now use ffmpeg and not faad.
6. Try playing the podcast URL above on Transporter - if it works - then
try Mixcloud.

Re: [slim] Help to fix a broken SB3

2019-09-09 Thread jac68

Thank you,

I have found this web page, checked the power supply, and done the
resets (without the screen)

https://joes-tech-blog.blogspot.com/2018/11/logitech-slimdevices-squeezebox-classic.html

It gets warm, but IP does not show on scanner.

Then I have read this other post (
https://joes-tech-blog.blogspot.com/2016/09/logitech-slimdevices-squeezebox-classic.html
) about display replacement, and MartinK's comment: “plugging and
unplugging would sporadically bring back the display, but only only if
the SB was warm.”

It has worked for one of the SBs.

(Next step, should be to change the capacitors.)

The log of player.source can be confusing. A simplified explanation is
as follows - LMS has a set of rules and it check matches of them all
even if the first one is a match - so there is usually a lot of
failures. What you missed in the middle of all the failed matches was
that LMS found that Touch can play the stream natively so the stream can
be sent directly to the player and so player state is BUFFERING and then
STREAMING and at the same time LMS is still checking the remaining
rules, LMS sends data to the player, then when player has enough data is
starts PLAYING

Re: [slim] Transporter + Mixcloud UNABLE TO PLAY FILE TYPE

2019-09-09 Thread bpa

Good that ffmpeg is installed.

LMS only reads the custom-convert.conf file at start up. If it breaks
something all you need do is rename the file to something differernt ,
restart LMS and all MP4 will be back as before. So it is a simple chnage
to make. The most difficult part is finding where to put the file as it
varies from OS to OS.

I don't know where LMS is installed on RedHat.

Use the following to check for convert.conf. In WebUI
Settings/Information - there will be a couple of directories listed -
one will end "Slim/Plugins" (not one with cache) .
Check for convert.conf in the parent directory of the "Slim"

Not sure what you mean by "linux" - to my way of thinking using yum is
part of "Linux".

If you mean command line stuff - no. You can move and rename the
custom-convert.conf file using a GUI file-manager/file explorer (not
sure what it is called on RedHat) . The only technical but will be
making sure ownership & permissions of the custom-convert.conf file is
the same as other files in the directory.

>From your list of directories, I think look into
"*/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/*" and see if there files convert.conf and
types.conf in that directory. If so copy the custom-convert.conf into
that directory.

If there is no GUI (possibly because it is a server) then I can give
the necessary commands once confirmed /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/ is
the right directory

e.g. from a shell prompt do the following command "ls -l " - this is
using lowercase letter ell - not digit 1 also not vertical bar.

*cd /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/
ls -l *.conf
*

I've had at least two of the better known brands (Samsung, SanDisk) fail
on me. When I looked around for allegedly more reliable ones, I found
Transcend High Endurance and have used nothing else for years now. Not a
single one has failed.

Of course this is ONE person's experience and it's possible I was just
unlucky with the other cards followed by getting lucky with the
Transcend. But at this point the price difference is sufficiently
uninteresting to make me want to stick with alleged high-endurance
cards. They're often sold as being suitable for dashcams as they
allegedly stand up better to repeated rewrites.

I also usually go no lower than 32GB on the assumption that extra space
means fewer writes over the same sectors...but I could be laughably
wrong about that.

The keyboards & screen which were used for the yum should be enough.

At that keyboard screen. Type the commands - end each command with a
return.

CD /USR/SHARE/SQUEEZEBOXSERVER/
LS -L *.CONF

This should produce a list of file and details (e.g. dates, size) which
has the at least 2 files - convert.conf and types.conf

If you copy the output and paste into a post - I'll think how to get the
custom-convert.conf file onto the RedHat system.

Don't worry - your description was enough to confirm - correct directory
but no conf file.

OK - I've had a look at LMS code (should have done this earlier) and I
now think the conf files are kept in "/etc/squeezeboxserver"

Can you do a
*cd /etc/squeezeboxserver
ls -l
*

Re: [slim] Finally Sold My Treasured Squeezebox Setup :(

So I have a Boom to sell. I loved it but not a techie. Wifi in my
house where it was was tough. Worked fine by router but lost streams in
my bedroom. Bought an Ocean Digital which works great in bedroom - at
least does not drop stream. Is Ebay the best place to go?
