[slim] Struggling to remember Touch stuff

2021-04-12 Thread ModelCitizen

Hello chaps

My Touch died some years ago so I've just bought another to try as a
digital in for my Naim NDX (as the NDX interface is 100% crap compared
to Squeezebox stuff)

I notice there's an applet written by Triode called Enhanced Digital
Output that enables the Touch to output 192khz digital signal, which it
looks like the NDX might support. It replaces the kernal, which to me
sounds pretty scary.
Has anyone used this? Is it OK? (And no, I am not at all sure I have any
music encoded at 192khz!)

Also, the Logitech wallpapers are dull. I remember there used to be a
way to install a custom backdrop but I can't remember how to do it. Can
anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

Take care of your tongue. It is in a wet place and can easily slip.

I know nothing about EDO, never needed it, many here still use it.

The Customize Device plugin is what you're looking for.

[slim] Squeezebox Repair

2021-04-12 Thread Magbert

It seems that the SB3 has reached the end of its lifecycle. More and
more devices are failing. I bought some on eBay. They work for some
months and one even for more than a year. Then they die with the same
symptoms:

- Display dead
- Player cannot be found on network
- optical output still blinking

I guess the capacitors would need replacement.

This is an excellent guide by the way:
https://joes-tech-blog.blogspot.com/2018/11/logitech-slimdevices-squeezebox-classic.html

Unfortunately I just lack the skills to replace the capacitors by
myself. Has anybody had their devices repaired or know a good repair
shop (preferably in Europe (I am located in Switzerland))?

Fun fact: My SlimMP3 is still working perfectly. Slimdevices was better
quality than Logitech!

I didn't realize that is a repairer. Writing blogs about about repairing
doesn't necessarily mean you repair things for other people. But in this
case you are definitely right:

"I am located in Germany. Please consider this when you want to send me
stuff for repairs. Inside EU, shipping costs are tolerable but outside
EU borders it gets very expensive quickly. Thanks to Covid19, parcel
services are only offering the premium products now. For US targets, the
smallest entity is 37.99 EUR when it used to be only about half that."

I will give that a try. Thanks for helping out.

Many people use it and it works fine. If you decide later to remove it,
just do a factory reset or re-write the firmware (both with "reinstall
applets" disabled). IIRC, at 192 coax worked more reliably than
optical; I don't remember particulars of USB as my DAC lacks it.

This is worth a read:

Thanks for that.

As a result I found some old wallpapers and made some new ones, all the
correct sized jpgs, but the Touch only picks up on two of them and
ignores the rest. They are just not listed as selection choices. I can't
see why.:-(

Don't know, I made 3 plain coloured wallpapers in Photoshop, they all
seem to work fine for me.

I wonder how long they'll continue to sink those costs with no revenue

Squeezeserver is still up. This Forum is still up. I suspect the
Harmony server will be up for a long time (even if they stop updating
the database)

I just got my Touch a few days ago and wanted to add if you have any
problems with lockups, reboots or no sound make sure you update the
firmware, which solved all of that for me.

[slim] lost apps

2021-04-12 Thread satkinsn

All -

I know this comes up periodically on the forums, and I've done some
reading, but have yet to find an unambiguous answer: after several years
of flawless operation, LMS has stopped showing my apps.

Yes, I logged back in using the tab under settings in LMS, and yes I
restarted the hardware LMS is running on. Anyone have a thought on one I
should do next?

tks,
