Apesbrain wrote: Some very interesting stuff over in this Joggler Forum thread starting about 'here' (http://www.jogglerwiki.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2t=740start=40#p13394). Yes, I checked that thread out. All a bit too audiophile for me. After years of abuse my ears aren't what they were, so I think going the way of spdif out to hardcore external DACs is probably overkill. I have seen elsewhere that the quality of phono out on the Joggler ain't great. I'm certainly up for spending an extra £30 on an external USB sound card to improve matters, but not up for learning how to code and then spending £150+ on a dac for a device whose main selling point to me was price. I'm happy with the sound from my Touch (with phono out). If I can bring the joggler up to that standard by adding an external USB sound card, then great, I will use it in the living room to take advantage of the airplay feature. Yes I know I could a/b them when I get it, but it would be useful to also have a technical opinion so as to help remove any nagging doubts. Listening tests are a nightmare. Often something sounds acceptable on a test listen only for irritations to creep in on prolonged listening DannyKudos's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4940 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96844 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

jimbobvfr400, great reply !. Thanks ! I think I'll invest in that Behringer USB soundcard. Actually, thinking about it, I have a Creative X-Fi USB card somewhere which might also do the trick. I certainly can't see myself learning to solder. My stereo system is also pretty modest (Ancient Marantz receiver, Keff speakers). Joggler has just arrived. I'll let you know how I get on. Re: [slim] O2 Joggler v Squeezebox Touch for Audio Quality
When say Marantz Receiver I mean in the old analogue sense; so an amp combined with an analogue radio. Not a Toslink or SPDIF in sight ! As I say, my ears are sub audiophile, as are my pockets !. If I can get the sound quality of the Joggler to something equivalent of a Touch (playing via phonos) I would be happy, but Im not up for spending any more than £50 to achieve this. [slim] O2 Joggler v Squeezebox Touch for Audio Quality
Hello. I just picked up an O2 Joggler in Ebay to use as a 2nd player. It should arrive tomorrow. I plan to install squeezeplay os. http://birdslikewires.co.uk/articles/squeezeplay-os I already own a Touch. One of the features that I find particularly attractive (a feature not on the Touch) is that it can be used as an Airplay audio device. So, I was thinking of, perhaps, using the Touch as my 2nd player (in my kitchen) and use the Joggler in my living room attached to my main stereo. My only concern is the audio quality from the Joggler v Touch. Anyone have both who can provide a comparison ? I currently just use the phono outs on the touch (my amp doesnt have digital in or a DAC) and would be using the phono jack out on the Joggler. Apparently you can use an external USB sound card on the Joggler also. Would such a card raise the audio quality of the Joggler to the Touch (line out) ? Any guidance greatly appreciated. [slim] Squeezebox (original), mysqueezebox.com and Mog issues
Hi I recently replaced my ancient SB1 at home, and re-deployed it at my office. The SB1 was happily associated with my mysqueezebox.com account, and I was able to use MOG for streaming (I have a premium account) . I decided to open up a new mysqueezebox.com account for my office specifically for this machine, and have bought a separate MOG account for work which I have added to this New mysqueezebox account. Now, I am able to use this new MOG account using the remote, but I cant drive it through the web interface (which is how I generally drive the SB when Im at work, via the Chrome extension). I think this might have something to do with associating this SB1 with this new mysqueezebox account. It isn't listed, and if I try to connect at the squeezebox itself it tells me the unit it too old to connect. This must be a new limitation as, at some point, I must have been able to connect this unit it to my old account. Any ideas if not being able to associate this machine is at the root of this problem, and if so, is there any way I can resolve this ? I hope the above makes sense not the easiest situation to explain !! Thanks ! I have set up an LMS server at work, which it is connected to, and this server refers to the new MySb account.I have deleted the SB1 from the original MySB account, thinking that that might have been part of the problem it wasnt.. As I say, its quite odd. Mog is available on the player via the remote, but I can get the app to show on the LMS web interface. [slim] squeezebox keeps randomly re-booting
Hi I have been the happy owner of a squeezebox 3 for close to 5 years. No real problems up to recently. In the last week or so, the player has started to randomly re-boot itself while playing. It seems to completely power off and back on. Anyone else had similar experiences ? I dont think its a WIFI issue... I occasionally loose wifi (doesnt everyone) but that doesn't tend to re-boot the player (at least, not immediately). Any ideas ? Is there a way of logging what's going on so I can see if its a hardware issue ? I guess I could use this as an excuse to upgrade to a touch but what I dont want to do is get a new machine, only to find I get the same problems... Re: [slim] squeezebox keeps randomly re-booting
Ive checked the power connections and all looks fine. I think I'll try a new power supply to start with. WIFI is running at 80%. When I say I loose wifi occasionally I mean every few weeks... probably a channel clash with a neighbor.. it aint a regular thing. CAT5 aint really an option. If a new PSU doesnt fix it, I might try a powerline connection. Anyone gone this route ? Re: [slim] controller or netbook ?
Thanks for the replies. I often use my current laptop to control squeezebox with slimserver running on a separate machine, so I know how this will feel with a netbook. One thing that might be a clincher for me would be if artwork loads quicker on the controller than it does on the web interface. [slim] controller or netbook ?
Hi folks, I've been thinking bout picking up a Squeeze Controller for my squeezebox, HOWEVER, I am wondering if I would be better spending some extra money and picking up a netbook to do the same job ? Does the controller collect the data from the server the same way the netbook (or any laptop) would, or does it cache data ? If there is no navigation speed advantage, I might just get an MSI wind (or something similar). Thoughts ? [slim] DBPoweramp DMC R12 beta is PERFECT ripper for Slimserver
Just been playing around with the above. Anyone using slimserver should check this out for ripping. Still in beta, but it is very stable and functional. The only feature I am personally waiting for is a multi-encoder (encode simultaneously to two codecs). Key benefits for slimserver users: Retrieves album art at point of ripping and names it folder.jpg (how cool is that !) You can specify album artist tag when ripping,... great for compilations. Makes great use of dual core processors. Even changing to a folders structure doesnt make for a tidy elegant soluciton with comps. Fine, I can navigate to pogo-a-gogo, but If I select Buzzcocks, the pogoagogo title isnt included in my listing, even though they have a track on this comp. If I tick the box that fixes this, I then get pogoagogo listied however many tracks are in that album in the album list. -- DannyKudos DannyKudos's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4940 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28780 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Stop this Various Artists Madness !
Hi Folks This isnt a rant... honest...I truly think my squeezebox and slimserver are absolutely marvellous, and all the developers deserve big houses with swimming pools and French maids... but... The way 6.5 treats compilations / various artists is really getting me down. All my comps are tagged correctly . All have Various Artists as Album Artist, all have a yes in the part of compilation box, and, up to upgrading, all behaved as you would expect. I could play 24 hour party people by selecting 24 hour party people from the albums list. Now, since I organise my folders by artist / album /track.mp3, (hardly a radical way to store your digital media !) slimserver now displays 24 hour party people about 8 times . Once for each artist represented. OK, fine, I could re-organise my folders to album artist / album / track, but what happens when I have two comps with the same title ? Not as odd as you may think .. Would it not be simpler to have a switch in the interface that forced slimserver to ignore folders, and just work from the tags ? Just a thought. Hi Nostromo I understand that the issue is folders. I just dont understand why it should be an issue. Every other device I have, or have owned (Rio Karma, Creative Vision M) happily ignore folders and work exclusively at tag level. At most levels, Slimserver is much cleverer (I cant understand why Creative haven't figures out how to remove The from artist names sorts !) but since 6.5, for me at least, it has taken a step backward in its navigation interface. -- DannyKudos DannyKudos's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4940 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28780 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Apparently (from reading the forums) you can get it to run on the PPC version of the linkstation, but not the MIPS version. [slim] Library and Sleeve Design Dilema... to heirarchy or not to heirarchy..
Hi folks I have a reasonably large library of tracks...about 5000.. some ogg (encoded from a main library of flac files) and some mp3. Up to now I havent bothered sorting them in any Hierarchy directory structure (artist/title/track) other than one for mp3/.. and one ogg/.. as both my Rio Karma and Slim Server work with tags so there seemed little point and all my tracks are perfectly ID3 tagged However, I am interested using the browse by artwork feature. I have created a directory called artwork, and by saving the jpeg files as album.jpg I can get them to show on the album details when I play an album. However they dont show in Browse by Artwork. I then tried to organise my library into heirarcy folders. This fixed the problem with browse by artwork HOWEVER it does fowl up other libaray feature,,, most noticably with compilations. When I had all my files in a single folder I could select a compilation album, and it would play as you would expect. Now, since Ive moved to folders, any given complation is listed in the library however many times there are differnt artists on that comp.. so for instance, at the begining of my library when you browse by album you will find 24 hour party people listed 12 times, with only one track per listing !. I know I could just change the artist name to Various and put the artist and title in the track field, but I like the fact that when I select duritti column I see not only the studio albums, but any relevant comps... Is there any way to either Get the Browse by artwork feature to work when your sound files are all in one (or two) directories or To get comps to be handled correctly when sorting in folders.
