[slim] ODD... Transporter remote working on Mysqueezebox.com but not LMS?

2015-10-17 Thread Gazjam

As above..
been working A-ok up till this evening when the remote didn't change
anything on my Transporter's display.
I Xlink reset it "just in case" and I was able to step through the setup
menu with the remote.
So the sensor was fine.

Still unresponsive after Xlink reset, so used onboard buttons to change
to Mysqueezebox.com, lo and belohld the remote works fine!
Swapping back to LMS though its not responding to the remote.

Using Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 - 1440053825 @ Fri Aug 21
07:17:05 CUT 2015
Was working fine up till now.
restarted LMS with no effect, Xlink reset makes no difference.

Any ideas guys?

Re: [slim] How well do the DACs hold up nowadays?

2015-01-09 Thread Gazjam

Hooked up my Transporter to my external Dac for the first time last
night.
Had a hifi buddy over to have a listen, an interesting night.

Short version,
The Transporter was improved by hooking it up to my M2Tech Young
Dac...substantially improved.

We listen to the TP over its analogue outs using its internal Dac and we
both really liked it, but thought it was MAYBE a little flat
dynamically, but very very listenable.
Hooked it up to the Young and the sound filled out, better timbre scale
dynamics...just.better.

Couple of proviso's though:

* The Dac has its own linear power supply and has been heavily modded,
so essentially its a 2K Dac.
* Only digital cable I had to hand was a Spdif coax, which I understand
might not be as good as a BNC hookup, so may sound even better, who
knows.

So my findings and conclusion on the Transporter Dac is that it's very,
very good and betters a high end universal disc player, but it CAN be
improved.
Though you'd have to hook it up to a pretty special sounding Dac to.do

Sorry my friend, we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. :)

Your comments DID get me thinking again about the
objectivist/subjectivist argument and asked a mate to come over last
night to hear my new Transporter.
We use each other to sanity check our systems sometimes and have been
listening to each others systems for years.
We have no problem saying that the emperors new clothes does in fact
sound rubbish to each other, and have done in the past. A lot!

We did the same test I did previously, as well as comparing two dacs to
the Transporters internal dac and we both came to the same conclusions.

I would posit that sometimes the difference between kit can be obvious
enough to over-ride the psychological factors which you mention whilst i
absolutely agree they can be a factor.
Particularly so if your talking subtle differences.

But only some of the time ... :)

no good saying I had no preconceived opinions - everyone has them,

Know what your saying Clive, but been in the game long enough to know

Its valid enough, and it was level matched, .but I know my ears and it

World's for me, improvement was obvious and repeatable.

If anything the Transporter being older might have thought the Oppo

Too easy to over think these things IMO, enjoying music is a subjective

2015-01-04 Thread Gazjam

...apart from Logitech shutting it down

Used to contribute a lot here, particularly on the Touch forum doing VU
meter screensavers and such.
Went down the music server/Jriver route into a good dac which is great,
but just bought a Transporter (with the knob!) and have a couple of
questions if I can ask?

1)
Anything new in Squeezebox land, particulalry for the Transporter?

2)
Has the open source community been updating the LMS software or is there
a final version?

3)
Are all the Radio services still going?

4)
Can I use Jriver DNLA facilty to control LMS?
(Basically access my LMS library via Jriver on my Ipad)

5)
Does Spotify work yet? ;)

Thanks much.

If the transporter sounds better than the Server/Dac I use just

this it just has the opposite effect: They did not test it for this, I
could not before submission and now I have to re-submit it to them for
testing to get the problem fixed although it's something I can do
 _here_ in 5 minutes.

But at least they do have a fast-track approval process for cases like
this, let's see how fast it is. The one time I used it before they
 approved within 24h.

Understood.
Thanks for your efforts. Having playback is well worth waiting for and
I'm sure you'll fix it through as soon as you can.

[slim] Hmnnn..any reason why my box might have been resealed at the factory??

2010-05-02 Thread Gazjam

Got a Touch recently at a discounted price due via a friend due to
inconvenience...

Part of a set of 2 units sent out, my box had been resealed...the
circular tape which seals the box was double layered (there was
onebtut of tape on top of the other) and the packaging inside was
SLIGHTLY more handled than you would expect from a brand new straight
from the factory purchase.

The unit itself was covered in the cellophane protective sheet and
looked untouched, and all the accessories were there in sealed bags,
looking as you would expect.

BUT..
The box, despite the very good job at putting it back together as
new, had TWO layers of tape on the flap..and I was very careful peelin
the top layer off which revealed a CUT layer underneath.

So my question is I guess, WHY would this have been sent out as
new..?

Is it a case of a particular batch being sent out to meet the
discounted orders..?

Personally I bought a brand new Touch, I don't want a used one.
What's Logitech's position on this as I'm not 100% happy, and I want
to be.

The thought will always be there that my unit is perhaps second hand
in some way..

Thanks.

Thanks for the replies, even the smart ones! :)

I was looking for some thoughts, that was all.
Hadnt thought about the quality control check...if the unit ITSELF was
in any way tampered with it would go back in a quick minute.

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify

2009-07-08 Thread Gazjam

vagskal;439039 Wrote:
It is quite simple on Windows:

 1. Close Spotify (right click on the Spotify tray icon and select
 Exit).

 2. Find your Spotify folder (where spotify.exe is). It is usually under
 C:/Program/Spotify/.

 3. Download DSBridge from
 http://dsbridge.googlecode.com/files/dsbridge-20090707-bin.zip. Put the
files DSound.dll and dsbridge.ini in your Spotify folder.

 4. Find on the Internet the file lame_enc.dll, preferably v. 3.98.2
 (hint: http://www.free-codecs.com/Lame_Encoder_download.htm). Put the
file lame_enc.dll in your Spotify folder.

 5. Start Spotify and play something. You will notice a new tray icon.

 6. Go to your web browser and open SqueezeCenter (you will need a
computer running SqueezeCenter to use DSBridge, I think). Go to
Favourites and choose Edit. Choose New Favourite and type a name for the
favourite (i.e. Spotify). If you are running Spotify on the same PC as
SqueezeCenter: Type http://localhost:8124/; as the url for your new
favourite. - If you are running SqueezeCenter and Spotify on separate
machines on a local network, you will have to find the IP address (on
your local network, something like 192.168.) of the machine running
Spotify and type that instead of localhost.

 7. Play the new Spotify favourite, via the web interface or iPeng,
and whatever is playing on Spotify will play on your SB3.

 Good luck!

Thankyou SO much, that did the trick!

Only thing I had to do was change localhost to my SpotifyPC's Ip
Address and I was hearing music - great!

What a great contribution to the Squeezebox community - I salute you
Sir!

You can stream it directly to your ipod as well I found.
Just create a shortcut for HTTP://(your IP Address):8124

Very cool feature, very handy.

Hi Pippin,

Astounding plugin!
It was the reason I bought an Ipod Touch, and its opened up my large

Thanks for the continuing efforts and good luck with V 3.0!

Anyways, what I used to do with the IR remote was if I heard a track I
liked I would Add it to my Favourites.

* I there a way to do this on Ipeng interface?
* Would I get the same functionaliy by creating a playlisy on the fly
- and if so, how would I do it?

Re: [slim] Boom versus SB3 cheap acive speakers

Acoustic Energy Aego Ms are fantastic little speakers that can fill a
room convincingly.
A Sub/sat system, the sat's weigh a ton (made from metal) and are very
solid.
Good quality cabling provided too.

I use a set in my Study hooked up to a Mk6/3 Beresford Dac playing
Flacs and it makes for a good quality budget Hifi setup.

I paid just over £100GBP for mine a year ago.

Could be a case of if you want better sound you may have to pay for it?

[slim] Replacement remote for Squeezebox

Where can I get / order one here in the UK?

Thanks.

Actually Id like to get the backlit Transporter remote (assuming it

Does the backlighting work effectively actually? I think I read a post

Any other remote options? (I will EVENTUALY get an Ipod Touch but not
just now).

I was using Avira Antivirus, but I read a couple of posts online about
AV Software interfering with slimserver so I uninstalled it, thinking
this would make a difference.

Didn't make a difference unfortunately, it still has the same problem.

Could it be a Firewall setting? I've (as far as I know) given
Squeezecentre maximum permissions in my Firewall.

Could it be a Router configuration setting?
(I dont know much about networkingbut I can get online!)*

Does DHCP Vs Static IP kind of thing come into this problem?

I see from other posts this problem seems to have came up in Ver.
7.2..would an earlier version of Squeezecentre not have this problem?

I am actually using the latest build 7.2.1..

Thanks.

Hopefully there is a solution to this (other than getting rid of
vista!)

[slim] Is the SB3 only available in Black (In the UK)?

2008-07-21 Thread Gazjam

HI
I'm trying to source a Silver finish SB3 to buy in the UK.
I can only see Golss Black finish ones.

Are the silver / white finishes not being made any more?

Thanks.
