Re: [slim] ANN: Orange Squeeze 1.3.0 released!
Just wanted to give some positive for the latest OS preview: I love the UI updates! New 'Now Playing' display and the three-dot context menus are very useful. I started to like the UI of Google Play Music very much, because it is very simple and intuitive. But the Orange Squeeze UI ist getting closer again. :-) Thanks! 2093 Alben mit 25'736 Titeln von 1881 Interpreten. Maybe my brains are not as perfect as yours, but I don't always remember the titles of my thousands of tracks I like(d)... For those with perfect brains and those not using ratings I suggested to have track ratings displayed optionally. Re: [slim] ANN: Orange Squeeze 1.3.0 released!
Frequently I'm using Squeeze Commander because it displays track ratings in the 'now playing' screen. The stars are touchable to change the rating. I found out that in Orange Squeeze, ratings can be changed in the pop-up list of the cover art. But this is too complicated and too well hidden for my listening behaviour... I would appreciate having the song rating displayed either in the playlist(s) and/or the 'no playing' screen... I can't get SqueezePlay running on Windows 8, either. [...] I would like to have a rating functionality in the control device (as Trackstat allows in LMS while playing a song). Everything else you mentioned seems to be feasible on DLNA-based setups with a decent UPNP/DLNA server (dynamic folders as in Twonky or Asset) and some control software available for Android or IOS platforms. Right now, I am looking into LINN hardware for highend-rendering (to replace my Transporter and preamp) and into a simple DLNA capable radio to replace my Boom. What I did not yet find in the LINN ecosystem is the rating functionality while playing a song for any of the control applications (besides the server based music library management applications). Re: [slim] What is missing from your Squeezebox experience ?
When thinking about missing features, new hardware devices came to my mind first. But besides the missing devices, a decent integrated library management is missing, too. Music playing functionality should not be separated from music management functionality. Playing music with LMS, ripping and managing the library with additional aplications (dbpoweramp, itunes, mediamonky, ...) is fun for the experienced user, but it's a pain for the normal user. I expect LMS to have an integrated library management functionaly to rip/add/buy music, manage metadata (using external metadata sources) and seamlessly include music from cloud/streaming services as if they were stored locally. The trackstat functionality should definitely be part of LMS! I think this would differentiate it from the competition. I had the same issue (Ubuntu 10.10), which appeared with the 7.5.3 upgrade. Maybe my wheater-plugin, which tried to poll wunderground.com without success, caused the problem.
