Re: [slim] Now the Squeezebox is dead, what would your next system be? And why?
My next system will be the replacement Touch I just ordered in case my current one dies. ;) I don't use any online services, don't even do multi-room syncing; just play my local library. The only features I use are new music and random. I reckon I've got years before I need to worry about a replacement. :) Rangdo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5238 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96191 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] I love my Squeezebox!
Ditto just about all of the above. I missed the Slimp3 model (had a Barix Exstreamer at the time) but have gone through SB1-3 and it's far and away the best piece of equipment I've purchased - both VFM and functionality-wise. I rarely use the radio functions but the ability to have all my music on-tap, if I can't decide what I want I can randomise tracks or albums and let the thing decide for me, etc. Magic!! -- Rangdo GRONDA GRONDA SB3 Benchmark DAC1 Bel Canto S300iu MA GR20 Rangdo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5238 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44569 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Loving SqueezeCentre 7, however....
The library scan time is way longer than 6.5.0. My server is a lowly 1GHz VIA Epia but a full rescan took roughly 45 minutes. My first scan on 7 completed last night, took 48 minutes for the music and 1:05 for the cover art All I've done is uninstall 6.5.0 and install 7, no other system-wide setting changes - wassup with that 2 hour scan time? I like the new Default skin but could there be a stop button included :D All my plugins (LazySearch, Alien, Magnatune, Weather Date Time), even though they're beta versions, appear to be working fine, the only one I couldn't test yet was LazySearch due to the scan not completing until after I'd retired for the evening :) -- Rangdo GRONDA GRONDA SB3 [Stereovox XV2] Benchmark DAC1 [NVA Soundpipe] Bel Canto S300iu [Chord Rumour 4] MA GR20 Rangdo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5238 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44256 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Loving SqueezeCentre 7, however....
That's fair enough I guess ;) I do a full rescan at 4am every day so it won't impact me too much. And in case you ask, I do a full vs a changed scan as I've had the odd problem in the past where I've changed a tag and it hasn't picked up correctly or given me slightly erratic results when just doing a new/changed scan. I think paranoia is taking over a bit TBH. MS are no better/worse than any other business in my working experience. Most will do what they want to get where they want to be; MS just happens to be huge so comes under more public scrutiny and it seems to be the thing to criticise them. For me personally I have no beef, I have 3 machines at home that all hum along nicely and all do what they should reliably. In work (both within and without IT) I have to use their products through popular demand and generally have no issues. That's a whole other story though. As far as DRM, even if they somehow maniplated things so that every piece of music from now till doomsday had some form of DRM applied, I still have 1000 CDs in my loft with none; I seriously doubt they'll 'fix' things so that all CDs ever previously produced won't play on their hardware/software. As a consumer I have a choice whether to buy music under the evil RIAA umbrella or independent music, and again I seriously doubt MS would change things to such an extent that a non-DRM WAV file is unplayable. Re: [slim] Playing 24/48
To check you need to go into server settings and file formats. liffy99;197894 Wrote: Is this correct ? Should I just be ticking one of the three ? For example Flac to Flac ? Thanks I think it depends on how many players you have. If you only have the one player then you can just tick one box for each. Assuming you want to stream WAV, then you can tick MonkeyWAV, FLACWAV, MP3WAV, etc - and untick the other options, the server will do all the hard work. Otherwise, if you're happy for the SB to do the hard work with it's inbuilt support you can leave the formats native, so FLACFLAC, MP3MP3, and so on. Default is normally letting the SB do the work. At the risk of adding confusion :) if you have more than one player, the format used depends on the bit-rate limiting you've applied to each player. So for me all my music is in FLAC, I have FLACWAV and FLACMP3 set. My SB has no bit-rate limiting so it receives WAV, for when I use Winamp on my laptop as a player I have bitrate set to 320 so the server automatically feeds me MP3 @ 320. -- Rangdo GRONDA GRONDA SB 2 [Stereovox XV2] Benchmark DAC1 [NVA Soundpipe] Cyrus Pre Xvs [NVA Soundpipe] Cyrus X-Power [Chord Rumour 4] MA GR20 Rangdo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5238 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34783 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

My mistake, I'd assumed you'd have already seen topics such as this one http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29789highlight=mce posted yesterday which discusses whether you can control SS via MCE. MCE is just Windows XP but with a full-screen application optimised for viewing on a TV (large icons, easy navigation using the included remote, etc). If you want you can hook it up to a normal monitor, or a TV - my TV is my sole monitor hence the reference to VNC if I want to use the PC as a PC. There is a plugin that allows MCE to act as a browser (quick Google will take you there) together with zoom functions for easy reading at a distance but navigating the SS web interface isn't great via remote, you'd need a wireless mouse for that. -- Rangdo Rangdo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5238 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29810 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
