Re: [slim] Is there a Windows application to control a Squeezebox?
Hello Bert003, Im inclined to agree with many of your observations - interface appearance can be a quite personal reaction, depending on the type of music you play and how you visualize how your music files are stored. You might like to use Foobar2000 to control your Squeezeboxen as indicated here: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79575 As the majority of my files are of classical music, I find that I use folder organization (composer, work, performers) more intuitive than the usual hierarchy of the default tagging schemes. Using the folder structure library display in Foobar2000 is brilliant for that, and the speed of the whole thing quite a relief. I just wish stuffedspacedog would make it a plugin. -- Skye Skye's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11214 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86144 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Well, tried that: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit gave pretty much the same results as XP. Re: [slim] Network Test
No, never any problems with dropouts with wired Squeezeboxes (SB2 &SB3), but problems with the Receiver/Controller setup on WiFi. This led me (some time ago) to check the wired streaming rates to establish what rates the AP could expect to receive the data stream on the Ethernet port. I was surprised that on a Fast Ethernet LAN, it was tripping over itself at 5000 kbps. This led me to try other Windows XP machines as servers, then Linux, resulting in the observations above. Having by now got used to the feeling that the Duet is intrinsically a bit naff, my current interest is in setting up a new media sever and choosing the best OS to run on it. If the Network Test plugin is a reliable indication, then I might want to avoid XP, but I dont want to dismiss it without convincing myself that it actually is XP rather than some tweak Im missing. Its just occurred to me that my wifes (mainly Photoshop) PC runs Windows 7 Home Premium. Ill put Squeezebox Server + 250 Gig of .flacs on that and see how she runs. -- Skye Skye's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11214 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88962 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Network Test
Ive tried changing the options on the network cards, changing the physical network cards, turning off services that I thought might have caused network distractions, but nothing seemed to change much. Ideally, I would like to use another method of testing streaming speed to check the validity of the Network Test plug in. -- Skye Skye's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11214 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88962 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Network Test
Has anyone else noticed a difference between Windows and Linux in the maximum error-free rate that the Network Test facility on a Squeezebox can run at on a wired Ethernet connection? Ive a collection of mostly old PCs running either Windows XP, WHS or Linux on my home LAN. Ive loaded Squeezebox Server on to them. If I then do a network test to each server I consistently see that it will run at 5000 kbps for a good long while if the server is on Linux, but it craps out quite soon at 1500 on any of the Windows machines. I was wondering if this is an anomaly with the Network Test plugin or my particular LAN setup (Netgear GS608v2), or perhaps a known difference in the network performance of the OS, which seems unlikely to me, hence the question. -- Skye Skye's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11214 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88962 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Control your SqueezeBox or Transporter with Foobar2000
Im looking for help with using FooSQ to control Squeezeboxes on a Vortexbox v1.9 setup (Fedora r14). I have Foobar2000 + FooSQ on a laptop (XP) and if I associate it with Squeezebox Server running on my old server running XP, it works perfectly, controlling the output of my Squeezebox 3. In fact it works just fine with the Foobar2000 library pointing to the flac files on the Vortexbox (which intrigues me) but when I associate it with the SBS (same version, 7.5.5) on the Vortexbox, it does not play. It will stop the output of a playing Squeezebox, but does not play the newly selected (by Foobar) track. Im pretty duff on Linux, so any suggestions gratefully received. Also, many thanks to stuffedspacedog and the others that have enables this excellent gadget. -- Skye Skye's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11214 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79575 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Tune in URL to run a local program?
I was using DVB-Viewer 4.0 and recording service 1.4.7.10. Updated to 1.4.7.90 - now itÂs working! Re: [slim] Tune in URL to run a local program?
Great, thanks for the tip, Rheinländer, this is just what I was hoping might be about. Earlier, I had played with the Web Interface V1.5, but without success with SC. IÂve had a first look at Recording Service but IÂve not got it running yet. Regarding your example; http://serverip:port/upnp/channelstream/25.mp2 Is the server i.p. and port the one defined in the uPNP AV server section of the Configure - Web Options? Also, may I ask which versions of DVB-Viewer and Recording Service you are using? Re: [slim] Tune in URL to run a local program?
Ah, hadnÂt realized they were fake URLs used by a plugin. Naively, I though I might be able to put in something, like a javascript or something, that was recognised as a URL but ran a local file. Your SharkPlay plugin looks like it contains the sort of think I was looking for, but my aim is simpler. I just want to Âcall the Wave Input function and run the command line as above example to set the channel of the DVB card. I donÂt want to set up or control the card from within SC (I can do that with the existing DVB app.) other than the channel Service ID. The hope was that then I would be able to have a favo(u)rites list where each entry was a URL that called up wavin:0 & the command line that changed to a specific channel. Currently I use the Wave Input as is and have to use non-SC workarounds to change channels, a system I canÂt use with my new Duet. -- Skye Skye's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11214 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62250 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Tune in URL to run a local program?
Is it feasible to initiate the running of a local program on the SqueezeCenter machine by using the ÂTune in URL feature? What IÂm attempting to do is to create a ÂFavorite for each DVB-S radio channel I use by running an executable file of the sort - "C:\Program Files\DVBViewer GE\DVBViewer.exe" -c:3582  where the Âc:3582 bit is the Service ID of the particular channel. Any suggestions welcome. -- Skye Skye's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11214 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62250 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Squeezebox remote to change the channel on DVB-S satellite radio card?
Does anyone have suggestions as to how I might arrange to have the Squeezebox remote change the channel on my DVB-S satellite radio card? Current setup: Ive a Technisat SkyStar 2 PCI card with DVBviewer that sits in the PC running WHS and SqueezeCenter 7.2. Selecting the WaveInput plugin via a favourite, I can listen to the satellite radio stations on the Squeezebox. This works well and has been a solid setup for some months now. The problem comes when I want to select a different radio station from the DVBviewer favourites list. Right now Im using the embarrassingly clunky method of the Technisat remote, an IR extender (Powermid XL) and WinLIRC. It works, more or less, but only from one Squeezebox location. There must be a better way. Im guessing that the IR codes that SqueezeCenter receives could be routed somehow to WinLIRC or directly to DVBviewer but how? -- Skye Skye's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11214 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53694 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
