Re: [slim] Is it best to uninstall 7.5.2 first?
Is it possible to save ones (local, not MSB) favourites during an SBS upgrade? Particularly on WHS, where the mantra seems to be uninstall previous SBS, reboot, install new SBS. It wasn't long ago that I upgraded to 7.5.2 and recall losing all my SBS favourites, quite a PITA. -- apn 1x Duet 1x Touch 4x BOOM SBS on WHS w/ 8TB storage apn's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35030 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85054 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Hail Mary time for Logitech with its Google TV?
I think some people are missing the point on Revue vs. SB integration. IMHO, the Revue was driven largely by Google as device to find/play ONLINE, not locally-stored content. I find this to be the fundamental difference between the Revue and other devices such as Boxee Box etc. If that assumption is true, then it would certainly be reasonable to expect MSB integration, but perhaps not a significant focus on content in local libraries. With four BOOMs and a Duet, I'm a big fan of Squeezebox (also have a Logitech Dream-Fi iPod dock), but want to distinctly separate my whole-home audio system from the three locations where we watch TV/movies (like others, I don't want to power the TV to listen to music). For that reason, I have a couple of WDTV -Live- players to handle my networked ~3TB HD video library. I'm actively looking for another video device and Revue was certainly on my candidate list, but; 1. I would have preferred to see the keyboard optional and an IR/other remote as standard. 2. @$299, it's missing the mark on price: 3x the apple and many other products and 2x the Boxee Box Syabas screwed up the Popbox firmware, so I'm sad to say, Boxee might be a better option for my needs. -- apn 1x Duet 3x BOOM SBS on WHS w/ 8TB storage apn's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35030 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82366 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android
Still enjoying the app on my Nexus One. Very happy to hear that Global Search capability is in the pipeline. A few observations with the latest version; - I find it near impossible to change the "master" volume control that appears at the bottom of the album art and other screens. I can pause/fwd/rev the music selection, but for some reason, I can't change the volume. - On the screen that display my 4 players, I have a really hard time selecting/changing the volume of a specific player (doesn't matter if it's master or slave). I have to use the tip of my pinky finger, and even then, it takes several attempts. If someone asks me to change the volume, it's ~2 minute task :( - On the playlist screen, when I scroll right (to hopefully move back to the album art or players screen), it always seems to add the currently swiped song to the playlist. It takes several attempts to get to the desired screen, so I'll often go back to the Home screen and reselect the app. Maybe it's just a case of fat finger Larry on my part, but I really don't have big hands ;) -- apn 1x Duet 3x BOOM SBS on WHS w/ 8TB storage apn's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35030 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69352 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Just wanted to post a big thanks to flattermann for creating this beast. Re: [slim] Boom or Radio
+1 for the BOOM. Why limit yourself to a single speaker, when you can get a pair for merely a few more $ when they're on sale? The Radio's colour display is nice, but I'd take the extra speaker over it any day. Re: [slim] I am a Squeezebox addict.
I wouldn't call myself an addict, but I've long since abandoned the shiny plastic discs. Having started with a Duet (living room) at Christmas 2008, I added a BOOM (kitchen) the following Eater, another BOOM (master bedroom) last Christmas and just got yet another BOOM (pool-house) last week. I already have a SONY "kitchen radio" in the garage, so I'd like to put an SBR in there and feed the output into the SONY, but I'll be darned if I can source one right now :( -- apn apn's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35030 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78067 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Upgrade to- and use of 7.5.0=Smooth sailing
Upgrade was "OK" (on WHS) but could have been better; SBC forced the upgrade and then rolled-back, presumably when it saw that SBS hadn't (yet) been upgraded. If it knew enough to check SBS version after the upgrade, why wasn't that completed as a pre-check? Anyway, I upgraded SBS, then the SBC wanted to upgrade (again) and this time all was good, except that I lost sync on the Duet and Boom on the main-floor. ++1, I simply *love* these products (Duet and Boom(s) at my house). Despite the odd timeout fetching an internet stream, I've never regretted buying any of them. Re: [slim] "Album Artist" sort
I wish mine did that, but instead it shows the "Artist" tag. Album Artist is much preferred for genres such as classical, where one typically uses Artist=Composer e.g. Verdi, but the Album Artist is the performer e.g. Cecilia Bartoli -- apn apn's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35030 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73912 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Love My Squeezebox! What's The Equivalent For Video?
I picked up a WDTV-live from Amazon ($119) back in November. It's the 2nd generation device (1st had no networking). It's on wired ethernet and I had some challenges getting it to see XP shares. It seems a lot better w/ WHS, and plays everything I can throw at it; Audio, Video, Photo formats. Won't be replacing my SB's though ;) My father in law just got the Asus O!Play, so I'll be checking that out, but I wasn't overly impressed with a friends' Patriot Box Office. Re: [slim] Sync SB1+SB3+Radio
I'm experienceing a similar problem with the addition of a third SB; SB1 - Duet SB2 - Boom SB3 - Boom All devices are wireless (no issues on that front) and I previously had SB1 and SB2 synchronised, running on SBS 7.4.1 (hosted on XP). I've just upgraded the server hardware and installed WHS, including the WHS-specific SBS 7.4.2 With all devices on, I'm trying to synchronise them via the SBC. However SB2 is asking if I want to sync to SB3 and vice-versa, when all I really want to do is sync SB2 and SB3 to SB1. In either case, the SBC menu shows; - Sync to SBx (x is the Boom I am not controlling at the time) - Unsync Using these circular references got the Boom's sync'd on Radio Paradise, while the Duet continued to stream BBC R2. If it makes any difference, I was playing BBC R2 via the BBC app installed on MSB.com. I also noted that there was a distinct absence of a sync option when controlling the Duet. Am I missing something here? Agreed, but I'd rather have redundancy for the day WHEN (not IF) one of the HDDs goes south, the probability of which is 1.0 i.e. far higher than the probability of your event :p ...plus I didn't mention that I'm mirrored to an offsite Drobo, and we resync periodically. Re: [slim] Dual Core Squeezebox Server Hardware
I was in the same predicament as the OP, with a P3/500 showing it's age with frequent "rebuffering" messages when the machine was under load. I considered the Atom. It's great little CPU, but I had a difficult time finding single/dual-core Mobo's with more than a couple of SATA connectors. If you only have 2 SATA connectors, then serious RAID is out of the question, and you're stuck w/ mirroring, which constrains your growth options. Are you guys not building redundancy into your libraries? I'd hate to lose a disk and have to rebuild a library. With my library currently at ~1.6TB and growing, I decided on the "go big, or go home" approach and just built the following; - Intel E5200; 45 watt, dual-core CPU - ASUS P5G43T-M Pro Mobo (6 SATA connectors) - 4GB RAM - 4 x Seagate low-power 2.0TB HDDs - Windows Home Server It's certainly more machine than I need right now, but I figure I've got room to grow, plus it can do multi-duty as a torrentslave, HTPC streaming audio/video/pics to my WDTV-live, and (via WHS) I have the option to schedule automatic backups and a host of other administrative chores for my other PCs. I also considered Drobo, Acer Home-Share, HP MediaSmart and other ready-made options, but liked the flexibility of building my own, plus I had a suitable case and other parts lying around. -- apn apn's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35030 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72985 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
