[slim] LMS and bluetooth
Here are some ways to combine LMS and Bluetooth headphones and speakers. 1. Raspi 3./4 plus Picoreplayer. The Pcp Bluetooth feature can be temperamental to set up (especially in the latest version). 2. Android tablets/phones with Squeeze Player or SB Player apps. Easy set up. Use the bluetooth transmit on the android device. This method also works for Fire TV devices and Android/Google TV devices. 3. Android/Google TV devices. Install chromecast bridge plugin on LMS. Add Bluetooth phones/speakers to the chromecast device. The chromecast device can be unplugged from the hdmi port. 4. Windows 10/11 - add bt devices via Settings. Install the excellent Squeezelite-x program (r. g. dawson) In terms of setup difficulty, I've found 2. and 3. to be the easiest. The 2 android apps are low-cost. A few years ago, I struggled to get Bluetooth working on Linux but gave up. The TV box will become another squeezebox player on your LMS system. You can set SB Player to start when the TV box is booted. Audio will be via the TV output - unless your box has alternative audio outs. Bear in mind that SB Player will monopolise the sound output until it is disconnected. Just a thought - have you checked whether your TV box has chromecast built-in? If so then it's easier to install the chromecast plugin in LMS then the box shows as a player on LMS. castalla's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15624 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99865 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

It's a bit convoluted but if Amazon Music works on Windows then a workaround is to use Shairtunes plugin to 'convert' the squeezebox device to an airplay receiver. Then you need to install and run TuneBlade on the Windows PC. This captures the audio (from Amazon Music or any other program) and pushes it to the pseudo airplay device. I use this to get Audible on my squeezeboxes. Interim solution: I resurrected an old Shuttle xs35 and after many hours reinstalling Win 10 finally got it working again - it's an Atom D525 so it's rather slow. I can use this until there's a decent offer on Amazon - I like the sound of the Mele Quieter2D Mini PC Celeron N4020. After a couple of years in hibernation I have resurrected a Joggler with squeezeplay. OS installed. The first thing I noticed was when the Joggler is running the log message that 'you are using a Squeezebox with an outdated firmware' So checking through the Joggler settings I came across the Update option which states the unit is running ver. 1.60 with an update available to N. [slim] Sonos adds new feature - Sonos Radio
As part of their attempt to salvage their recently tarnished reputation, Sonos have added their own radio service as a *NEW* feature. A sort of lack-lustre hash of Tunein and other radio services, plus 'curated' features. Quite frankly not worth the effort of updating their smartphone controller apps to access this ad-supported service. My experience in carrying out the update was that it reduced my existing Sonos sytem to a pile of disconnecting devices, all of which now require frequent restarts. AVOID. The sonos fiasco continues unabated. The main thread has now over 2700 posts (the original thread which was closed reached about 2000) !!! Can't comment on synch. - don't use it. Otherwise the bridge works fantastically well. Haven't had any issues with plugins either. The Beam has good sound and Alexa/Google built-in: also airplay2, but I've never got the airplay2 to work with the airplay plugin. I have 2 Play 1s - they work fine. The worst aspect I've found (and Sonos are to blame here) is the 'native' conroller software. You need a recent Android/iPad smartphone to set the sonos device up (the Win PC controller has been crippled & can't be used for setup - there's no web browser access nor a linux controller). Moving to a different network or a new router is a version of 'black magic' - makes LMS almost plug'n'play by comparison. Some others have gone off on a hunt for 'alternatives' - most of which seem to be in github 'cold-storage' and appear amazingly complex to implement. Quite bizarre. Bluesound and Bose come up quite frequently as replacement systems. The Sonos forum and community is a strange and often unwelcoming phenomenon! There is a substantial number of 'fanboys' who will attack anyone who has even constructive criticism to offer. A gentle hint I made yesterday about 'other ways to use Sonos devices' was promptly put down as 'nonsense' by one of these characters. In the current threads about the 'legacy' issue I am quite amazed by the amount of $$$ some people have spent on their systems - quite a number are threatening to sell their equipment and move off to other equally overpriced and proprietary closed systems as a solution.
