Re: [slim] Bug: SB3: No WOL after PowerOn
I agree with this, furthermore given that Logitech state on their web site that they "recognize the importance of conserving the earthÂ’s precious natural resources to protect the planet" it would appear to be company policy. Re: [slim] Slim Devices hard disk ripping unit?
I think that's the key; it's aimed at being a SIMPLE device. It's unlikely to have all features that we in the Slim community want (which is why we're here in the first place) but it looks like it's aimed firmly at your average electronic device consumer. Unlike ourselves (I'm speaking for myself really) who are willing to go that extra mile for better sound quality, extensibility, etc. Mind you, I'm sure the ripserver is simple to use ;-) -- dick dick's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3734 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=47887 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Slim Devices hard disk ripping unit?
I've noticed mention in the odd post about a standalone unit that's able to rip, store and serve music. I guess it'll appear in some people's wishlist as an alternative to using a computer or NAS. Well, it looks like someone's gone ahead and done it... http://www.3ga.org.uk/home/ Clearly, to produce a consumer device that rips and tags CDs is a potential nightmare (as posts on the ripping/tagging forum will testify) so any attempt to do this on a commercial basis will have made compromises. I find it interesting to see what those decisions were. For example, rather than have the unit connect to the internet, it contains its own CD database which can be updated at a cost. It also contains a 60W amplifier. I feel the Slim Devices platform has many advantages if Logitech decides this type of product has commercial viability (not least flac and network connectivity) so it will be interesting to see if this product is successful. -- dick dick's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3734 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=47887 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Transporter - Is it worth it?
I'm currently using a Squeezebox 3 in my main system, connected by a coax digital link to a Tag Mclaren AV32R / 100x5R combo, and I'm now thinking of upgrading to the Transporter. Considering that the AV32R is a high quality digital pre-amp / processor and that the Transporter will be connected in the same way as the SB3, thus bi-passing it's DACs, I'm wondering if there will be a substantial benefit from the upgrade? Re: [slim] Boosting Signal Strength
I had a similar problem and considered a booster, repeater and the cheapest wireless access point that can be run in repeater mode. My main issue is that my house is L-shaped and the signal had to pass through 2 brick walls to get to the SB. It just wasn't good enough for playing flacs. In the end I chose a mains network solution from Netgear. OK, it's a more expensive way to do it but it gives me 4 sockets @ 85Mbs which should be plenty for the SB and any IP based PVR I may set up in the future. -- dick dick's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3734 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39494 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Music won't play
My SqueezeBox 3 has stopped playing! Odd problem this; everything was OK untill I started messing around with the settings last week (I should know better really) and was adding a few new RSS feeds and selecting it as a screensaver. It may be a coincidence but since then any music has refused to play; the display says it's playing but the track timer doesn't move. I strongly suspect audio is being streamed from SlimServer but it's not being translated into audio. A similar thing occurs when connecting to SqueezeNetwork; there is data being downloaded (I can see the activity on my DSL modem) and the SB3 says it's playing a particular track but there's no sound. SoftSqueeze works OK. I am using SS 6.3.1 on a LinkStation flashed with OpenLink. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I am baffled. [slim] Re: No bass coming out of my sub
My guess is that your MP3 files don't go deep enough to cause the amp to move from using the fronts to using the sub. Somewhere in your amps setup will be the option to set the size of the front speakers - generally "large" means that they are able to handle bass OK and "small" means they can't. If you have your speakers set to large then chances are the amp will never use the sub when listening to music unless you can turn on a surround mode that uses it (stereo + sub for example). The reason that movies play OK is the .1 in the 5.1 which is the dedicated sub channel. -- Dick Sternum ---- Dick Sternum's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1062 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24854 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Appologies if this has already covered, but I couldn't find anything. Essentially, if I create playlists either from the SB or through the web interface of SlimServer, I can browse them. Sean It's a Tag Mclaren AV32R. Literally all I've done is unplugged the digital cable from the back of the SB2 and plugged it into the SB3. The SB3 is then (I think) configured the same. Unfortunately I don't have another amp with a digital input to try. Its working perfectly as is (digital output option set to variable and the volume turned up to max) so to be honest I probably wont bother too much. I have just added an SB3 to my collection and have used it to replace an SB2 in my main system, moving the SB2 elsewhere in the house. The SB3 is setup the same as the SB2 was, connecting to the same WAP and using the same connections to the amplifier (co-ax digital). However, when I set the digital volume control setting via slimserver to "digital output level is fixed" which is how I had the SB2 configured, all I get is massively distorted output. [slim] Re: Shuttles New "Slim" PC
If their other PCs are anything to go by them I'd say pretty quiet. I've built a few of their units in the past and find them really well designed and efficient. They generally use a 1U rack server type of PSU (200W or so) along with a heat exchanger that effectively combines the processor and case fans together. After an initial maximum speed surge on power up the main fan slows to a quiet level. Running an aplication that used 100% processor power did not seem to raise the noise level even after an hour. Hopefully the price premium won't be too high. -- dick dick's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3734 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24582 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] "New" SB2 (UK) - Does This seem used to you?
Ordered a SB2 online recently to supliment my 2 existing SB's. It arrived today, and looks and works fine, but I really think that the player has been used: There was no outer "Slim Devices" packaging that the other two came on - just the white inner cardboard box. The tape seal on this box has been cut. The batteries were already in the remote and not separately sealed. No network Cable was present, nor the audio cable - this is not big deal to me as I have enough of both already, am using it wirelessly and via digital output, but still. Best of all, the player was already configured with a SSID (no security), IP address from DHCP (not the 169 address either), and the address of a SlimServer. Am I being really silly or does this seem used to anyone else too, before I go and talk to the supplier. -- Dick Sternum ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
