Recently, and I apologize for not knowing exactly when, my squeezebox can no longer play FLAC files - they constantly rebuffer. Yeah, cough is right. Why can't you configure it via wired ethernet? Most every network device embeds something to do this - I have a NAS device that does this. Okay, Logitech's first priority was to sell the "duet" combo. But if Logitech wanted, they could have created the SBR to configure itself via wired ethernet. So a conscious decision was made by someone to create the SBR to require the SBC for configuration. One cannot "just" buy the SBR and expect to use it like the old Squeezebox. 1. False - To configure the SBR, you must have the SBC. So you can buy as many SBRs as you want, but none of them will work without purchasing or using an SBC first. Logitech - this stinks. As a user of Slim Devices for almost five years now, I too, was letting you know what I think. For a lot of years, people have been asking - myself included - for a no display, low cost Squeezebox. From the initial press release of the Duet, I thought this came true. But after using this forum, I realized that Logitech left out one part - the ability to configure the SBR without the SBC. That's too bad, because my wish - and probably many others - then didn't come true. Many of us have been using Squeeze products before Logitech bought Slim. Many of us remember the one-on-one emails with developers and tech support, and personal communication with Sean Adams. It's easy to wave "communities" and "open source" and probably even a good thing to do so. But even some of your most ardent fans can also be some of your most ardent critics. I hope Logitech sees the strength in all this. My hat'll be off to Robin for delivering a plugin that will allow one to enjoy the Squeeze experience for an entry price of $149. Although I am not a developer, I have been using the Squeezebox and Slimserver for almost five years. I have purchased two units, including one since Logitech purchased Slimdevices. I even got into Linux because of Slimserver. I have demonstrated to friends who in turn have purchased this product. Guaranteed I love my Squeezebox as much as anyone else on this forum. Why you even have a quote from me on the "testimonials" page. :) Now please make plans on creating a stand-alone SBR. I was pleasantly surprised how > much better the SB2/SB3 display is than the SB1G display; I can't > imagine using a SB1 or SliMP3 text-only display all the time! Okay I ordered it! I did get an email from Slimdevices stating the units would be logo'd with the Slim brand. The big selling points for me was: + Price: $229 (white on sale plus return user discount) + better display - the v1 _is_ hard to read across the room! + 802.11g networking w/WPA + Burr-Brown DAC + Much larger buffer for FLAC I would like to point out that one of the things I love about Slimserver & Squeezebox is the community around it. I've always had good support from Slim, and always found Slim users to be very congenial and helpful. "A nice club" if you will. It's probably why many of us are worried about the change with Logitech. No disrespect to Logitech, but big companie$ always tend to me$$ up a good thing. I think many share this sentiment... The point about the logo is easy - I've been using Slim for just over three years. I love it. So yes, I want to be reminded that I have a Slimdesign Squeezebox, and not Logitech Squeezebox. ~ Now Logitech - make an inexpensive "no wireless, no display" version of the Squeezebox! -- djfake --- www.itjerk.com www.progressiverock.com djfake's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8111 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34362 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] New Device - Beep
Just saw an article on Engadget for "Beep", Looks interesting... "Launching today, the tiny dial works like a Chromecast for your speakers, and lets you cast tunes from your mobile device over Wi-Fi -- and with none of the range restrictions that affect Bluetooth-based devices. The creation of two ex-Android engineers, the project has financial backing from big names like David Dolby and Alexis Ohanian." http://www.engadget.com/2014/02/06/beep/ https://www.thisisbeep.com/ --- www.itjerk.com www.progressiverock.com djfake's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8111 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100909 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Time to resurrect. I received my Beep before the holidays, and just a few days ago, was added to the test group for DLNA. It's a nice device, connects via optical to my system, and has good sound quality. In order to access my local library via DLNA, I am using MiniDLNA server on an Ubuntu box, and the Android app BubbleUPNP. Since Beep is a DLNA/UPNP device, I am still hoping that the people at Beep will add control functionality to the Beep via LMS. In the meantime, I wonder if there is a way to get playback from it with LMS? --- www.itjerk.com www.progressiverock.com djfake's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8111 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100909 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Squeezeslave: 1.2 released
I can portforward via ssh and get mpc to run LMS, but I'd love to use something like Squeezeslave to connect remotely to my LMS when I'm at work. Tried port-forwarding 3483/9000, but no luck. Anyone have an idea how to do this? Sad news indeed. Fortunately Squeezebox server will live on, and I imagine, someone could buy the rights... but I am also reminded of all the pro-Logitech zealots at this time... I'm having issues with Squeezeslave on the Raspberry Pi. Occasionally, Squeezeslave freezes up completely, forcing me to pull the plug on the RPi. Hi to reply to original post, Raspberry Pi + Hifiberry are the new Squeezeboxes. Very cheap but sound very good! And running PiCorePlayer is an absolute breeze.
