[slim] SB1 For Sale
Hello everyone. I have one of the first squeezebox SB1 wireless for sale. It works fine but I no longer can use it because my wireless network is WPA2 thanks to my Airport Extreme upgrade. Is anyone interested in this? Readout is fine (1st generation) and comes with remote. The plastic antenna brake so it can only face horizontal but does not interfere with player reception. I can guarantee no Britney Spears has been played on the SB1. Sell or store with my 1st generation Macintosh 128k? PM me if interested an make offer. [slim] Using SB1 on a second wireless network
Be forewarned, I am not very technically inclined... I have been running my older SB1 off my iMac for years and it has worked great. I just bought a new iMac and have upgraded my network in the process and now SB1 won't work. Here is the deal. I currently have an iMac running 10.5.1. I have an Airport Extreme hanging off it but the iMac is hardwired. I am using WPA2 which SB1 does not support so I attached my older Netgear router off the Airport Extreme. I am not using any security now on the Netgear (but am using WPA2 on the extreme). The Netgear network is called Squeezebox and the Squeezebox sees it and connects to it. But Squeezebox cannot find slimserver. Is this normal. Any solutions on how I can have the Squeezebox find slimserver via the netgear hanging on the airport extreme? Thanks much for your help. [slim] Trouble getting 6.2.2 started
I am working on OSX, 6.2.2 and Mac 10.4.6 I tried 6.5b and was having lots of trouble with the way the skins were showing up (formatting was all messed up). I decided to play it safe and downgrade to 6.2.2. I trashed all Slimserver stuff on the harddrive. Then I download 6.2.2 and installed it. Now, Slimserver does not automatically start. I open system preferences and tell it to start When system boots but it never does (it used to with 6.5b). I then click Start Server, button changes to Stop Server then waits 5 seconds and thn goes back to Start Server. Why is the server shutting down automatically? I can't get it to stay on. Any ideas what I messed up? [slim] 6.2.0 + iTunes + XP = No Work
My expeience has been that the new version 6.2.0 does not function well with iTunes. The only time I can get Slimserver not to crap-out* is to disable the iTunes plugin (rendering iTunes option useless) or change the rescan interval to 0 disabling it (I tried it at 500,000 but there still was a problem. My definition of crap-out is when I play a song it plays for about 5 seconds, stops for 10 seconds and then plays for 5 seconds - throughout the entire song. I posted my problem last week and instead of getting any solutions (other than disabling it) people confirmed they were having problems with iTunes/XP/6.2.0. So, is my algebra wrong or is everyone else having the same results? KDF, I do not have any plugins (other than the standard ones) installd (no itunes updater). 6.2.1 still stalls. I counted and found it works for 19 seconds and then is off for 19 seconds. This is with itunes having a 50,000 reload interval. I changed it to 0 scan interval, restarted the computer and now it works perfectly. again, I have the itunes interval reload at 0. What gives? What is supposed to heppen when you play a random mix (lets say of 10 songs)? When the 10 songs are over does the program grab another 10 random songs? How about with Random Artists? DWhen the artist's songs are over does it grab a new random artist? I noticved there is no way of limiting number of songs when choosing a rondom artist. Is that by design? Man, I hope there is a way I can choose random artist but only play a max of X in a row before picking a new random artist. make sense? I saw that you're running on Windows... is the machine clean? Yeah, I use it exclusively for itunes, slimserver and EAC What does taskmgr show you for CPU and pagefile usage? CPU around 4% to 7% with short, infrequent jumps to 60% PF useage is 316 MB (steady) Is the disk light on steadily? Nope Slimserver's disk activity when not rescanning is a tap on the disk every two or three seconds; more than that probably indicates memory paging. I really don't see that going on. My CPU is a P4 1.5ghz, 768 MB of RAM. Hard drive 1 (system) is a 150mb drive 134 free 14.4 used. The second disk is for music and has 125 used 64 free. Any other ideas? I thought the iTunes plugin was important to be there if you use iTunes as your library? Is the iTunes plugin really for the iTunes updater? [slim] Don't use itunes except for playlists??
I have noticed for 6.2 on my XP, using iTunes makes my slimserver VERY spotty. I switched to not using iTunes and it works perfect. I don't mind doing this except I like using iTunes playlist fnctionality (smart playlists). Is there any way to not use iTunes excpet for the playlist functionality?
