Ikabob, it is very possible that you could upgrade your machine to Windows 7, and install your Windows XP on a VMWare player virtual machine. VMWare Player is free and works very well. You could then run the XP programs which will not run on Windows 7 in that virtual machine. you will need to do it quickly as you will need to do any updates for XP before April 8th, 2014. Once you have all updates installed onto the XP virtual machine, run it as an independent machine - i.e. without an internet connection. Windows 7 runs VMWare Player very well. The laptop I'm typing this on had Windows 7 with XP as a virtual machine. I updated it to Windows 8.1, and now have XP and Vista as virtual machines. Vista is fine, but it is a lot hungrier than XP: it needs about 30Gb to sit comfortably, while XP needed about 10Gb. Squeezebox Classic:2; Duet: 1; Boom:1; Touch:1; Wandboard Quad; Squeezelite. Re: [slim] Bad experience with a Touch dealer
toby10, European legislation and consumer practice is apparently very different to what pertains in the USA. The dealer's behaviour was in no way reasonable or correct. The OP made an offer to the dealer: "Thank you for your proposal to send me a Smart Radio in compensation of the damage. I accept your offer ON CONDITION that you also send me back my faulty Squeezebox Touch". That is a clear offer. If the dealer chose not to accept it, then he should behave accordingly. The fact that German and French were the languages in use here may have something to do with the cockup. No doubt Google Translate, or whatever means of translation was used, caused misunderstanding and confusion. Nevertheless, the OP is due his Touch back...whether he gets it or not is another matter. tikavista, I'd suggest you get on to one of the German Consumer agencies and see if they will do anything for you, by way of contacting Deltatecc and attempting to get an equitable resolution. kesey's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10786 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98825 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

http://www.newit.co.uk/forum/index.php NewIT sell the Sheevaplug in the UK. Re: [slim] Windows 7 64-bit SP1 LMS player not found
Thanks wilkes. I've had the laptop working on wireless up until now, so I decided to see if I could reach the Touch and Squeezebox 3 on wired connection. The minute I connected to an ethernet cable, I picked up the Touch and Squeezebox 3 and also the Boom. It would appear that the problem may be to do with the wireless adapter/wireless settings in the laptop. The adapter is a Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless Lan 802.11n PCI-E NIC. My router is a Linksys WRP400 802.11g. Maybe there is a conflict between that and the Realtek RTL8188CE. If anyone knows of a possible conflict and the best way to resolve it, please post the solution. I'll get Googling in the meantime. [slim] Windows 7 64-bit SP1 LMS player not found
Getting Logitech Media Server to work under Windows 7 64-bit SP1 LMS on a new computer seems to be a hit and miss affair. I've spent about 10 hours trying every configuration I can think of to get it running. No joy. I've searched everywhere I can think of, and found no solution that I can get to work. I've tried installing VMware Player, and installing LMS 7.7.1, 7.7.2 and Squeezeboxserver 7.6.2 in a WinXP Pro virtual box, having failed to get any of those packages working in Windows 7 64-bit. Some forum members got things going as in this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86162 Some apparently didn't. In any event, the solution is not solid or dependable. Help please!! In addition to the above, there is a problem with LMS failing to start on re-boot. None of the above problems is happening with my (i) Win 7 SP1(upgraded from Vista orig) with various "upgrades" of Squeezecentre en route or (ii) my Win XP Pro netbook, or (iii) my Sheevaplug running Debian Squeeze. -- kesey Squeezebox Classic:2; Duet: 1; Boom:1; Touch:1 Server: SheevaPlug Debian Squeeze 4GB SDCard, Squeezepad, iPeng, iPeng for Ipad : "a pint of plain is your only man", Squeezeboxserver/LMS 7.7- latest nightly kesey's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10786 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92450 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Its great to hear that your Pa is listening to his music via the SB3. When a person is willing to learn, nice things can happen. My wife is a technophobe of the first order. She used to love her various Nokia phones - 6310s etc because they were so easy to use. She was very much reluctant to move to her HTC Desire even though she knew from the kids that it would work for her. Now she's emailing, googling, bopping photos all over the shop, using Viber, Whatsapp and loads of handy programs. She uses the Squeezebox Boom and has a series of favorites (ripped CDs, radio stations etc.) that she likes. She has no interest in messing with Squeezecentre or that sort of thing. No problem. I do. But if I didn't she would be perfectly happy with the use she gets out of the Boom. The Slim/Squeeze series of products is useful, and as easy or difficult or as esoteric to use as a person chooses to make them. That to me is what makes them great. They work. The Squeezebox Classic is a work of art - a beautiful pretty thing that allowed music a new way out of the box. -- kesey Squeezebox Classic:2; Duet: 1; Boom:1; Touch:1 Server: SheevaPlug Debian Squeeze 4GB SDCard, Squeezepad, iPeng, iPeng for Ipad : "a pint of plain is your only man", Squeezeboxserver/LMS 7.7- latest nightly kesey's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10786 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91532 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

My daughter has a brain which she is happy to use on a regular basis, installed Squeezecenter, attached a USB hard disk with .flac files on board, told Squeezecenter where to find the .flac files, does average day to day stuff like turning on her computer, sticking in an Ethernet cable, ripping CDs and putting the resultant files where she wants them. In short she is happy with her Squeezebox Classic and gets fun out of it. Is she a dedicated computer wonk? Certainly not. Just someone with cop on and initiative. Once Squeezeplay accepted this, it showed up my Music Library. I was now able to go into Settings/Choose Player and choose Squeezeplay as my Player. The downside is that Squeezeplay appears to be as geriatric as myself. If I close it, it does not remember the settings on reopening, so I have to go through the motions again (very important for a geriatric) to get Squeezeplay player to recognise my music library. Note: even without the above Squeezeplay can be made to work by opening it, reloading/refreshing the Squeezebox Server home page a minute later and selecting Squeezepplay as Player. All in all, Squeezeplay needs to be tidied up drastically so that it just works - going through hoops is fine for old codgers with the time and impatience to do it. I invested in a 64 gig iPod touch last weekend, charged it up having first installed iTunes 9 on my desktop, did a minimal bit of reading of the iPod manual, and fired up the touch. Next up was to download and install iPeng 1.2 and to figure out how to use the touch and iPeng. Brilliant...there's a bit of learning for a guy brought up on Windows (not to mind PCDOS) but once the touch interface begins to make sense, iPeng turns out to be a treat. Re: [slim] SqueezeCenter 7.3.2 on Windows 7 RC
Hi Mark, Win 7 certainly appears to be much more pleasant to work with than Vista so far. It installed very easily on a clean install (separate partition). Squeezecenter 7.3.3-26407 runs perfectly. Squeezeplay also runs well, even though the stutter at 10 secs befre track end still occurs (a Squeezeplay, not an operating system, problem). My HP Photosmart 7280 printer installation routine was the only thing that required a bit of side stepping, as HP try to kibosh installing on anything newer than Vista. Right clicking on the Setup.exe file, selecting properties, setting it for Vista compatibility with Vista SP1, and checking "Run as an Administrator", followed by double clicking on the Setup.exe got the Install routine running. It installed perfectly. Re: Windows 7 and McAfee: I'm using the McAfee Windows 7 beta. The thing that interested me was the link with B&O...and the design of the unit. A lot of people like the idea of a unit that is pure plug and play. FYI: Here's a system from Denmark, amplification is using B&O Ice technology. 750 euros or so for the player and 10 euros a month for all the music you will ever want (or so the blurb says anyway!): http://www.touchdiva.dk/ "Release your music in a single touch TouchDiva makes your old stereo, CDs and LPs seem like unnecessary clutter. TouchDiva clears the stage and makes room for the only thing that matters: THE MUSIC. With just two screws in the wall, a broadband connection and electricity, your TouchDiva is set to give you millions of tracks featuring all of the music you love in just 10 minutes." The Digital Soundsystem of Tomorrow TouchDiva streams music from 20,000 servers around the world at a bit-rate determined by the record companies. The majority of tracks are streamed at 192 kbit/s, and EMI offers music at 346 kbit/s. Tracks are streamed in WMA and MP3 formats and your TouchDiva will always give you the best sound quality available. A TouchDiva takes you further than the music experience you know from computers or MP3 players. Your TouchDiva has direct access to a world of music, and you dont need to upload your own music. You simply play the music directly from the Internet." -- kesey kesey's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10786 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60003 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

It was delivered at 16:32 today Jan 29th, 2009. Already have a Squeezebox 3 and a Duet. The problem is that, for me and apparently for some others on the forum who have mentioned it (bug submitted), Squeezeplay does not work. It will only play max 7 tracks (generally 5) of an album before ceasing to give out audio. The final track then just keeps running, silently. With regard to your statement that "I'd rather they spent time concentrating on SqueezeCenter and the Controller than prettifying a desktop music player", I would point out that some of us like to listen to music while we use our computers. If we don't have a Slim (Logitech) product to allow us to do that, then we are forced to use some other product. Slim (Logitech)would lose a marketing tool via such an exercise i.e.they would lose a major branding strategy. Punters would lose the opportunity to strengthen their affiliation with Slim (Logitech)by using a product (virtual) they have come to like. -- kesey kesey's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10786 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=56934 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

It is certainly nice to see the artwork of an album, but that can be seen in Squeezecenter. I wonder what is the point of Squeezeplay. Softsqueeze has the benefit of mirroring the Transporter/Squeezebox look and feel and can therefore be used as an excellent means of introducing newcomers to both. I can not see how Squeezeplay as it stands today could be used to attract any new user to the Squeezecenter marketplace. The fact that I have not managed to get Squeezeplay to play any one album in its entirety does not help. I have both the Squeezebox 3 and the Duet, and enjoy listening to music with the use of each. The controller is handy in that it allows use of any Squeezebox/Receiver/Transporter in the network, but I prefer the way the Squeezebox 3 system works. Being able to pick the first letter of an album or artist, as in the Squeezebox 3 remote, is tidier and faster than the somewhat stuttering spinning wheel of the Controller. Can someone please enlighten me as to where I've failed to appreciate the benefits of Squeezeplay over Softsqueeze? Re: [slim] Passionato classical music downloads
Why not write/email to Passionato and tell them to cop on to themselves? I'd be happy to buy from a company with a good which was willing to supply me in lossless format (FLAC preferably), and which would charge me less for a download than for a CD. I'm not prepared to download from a company which charges more for FLAC than for mp3. Linn offers CD quality and Studio quality on its downloads, and charges a premium for the Studio quality. Fair enough. -- kesey kesey's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10786 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52524 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

If yes, I will immediately remove all beta copies of Squeezencenter from my computers. Seriously though, creating Squeezecenter as an application on Chrome makes for a very pretty and tidy instance of Squeezcenter. With Squeezecenter open on Chrome, click on the "Page2 icon in Chrome (top right hand corner beside the Tool icon) and select "Create application shortcuts.." -- kesey kesey's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10786 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51913 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Google Chrome new browser
For those who like new tools, the Google Chrome Browser is here: http://gears.google.com/chrome/ I've been playing with it for the last hour or so and it is working well. The various Tabs allow independent working and apparently one of its aims is to manage computer memory well. So far so good, as noted by the 85 year old who said he wanted to live forever. -- kesey kesey's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10786 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51913 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

McAfee messes up the scan of your music directory, so the best thing is to turn it off while you are doing a new scan. To do this, click on "Settings" on the bottom right hand corner of Squeezecentre and this wil open up a new window for you, from which you should choose "Clear and rescan everything". When the scan is complete (you can watch it scan if you wish) in perhaps 10 mins or so, then your album art will show up. -- kesey kesey's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10786 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51681 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Jooseppi;331176 Wrote: > > > Did any of you watch the youtube clip of Sooloos? Isn't that UI just > mind blowing? Aesthetic, ultra snappy, intuitive.. truly a Human > Interface Device. Jooseppi, may I suggest that you use Squeezecenter on your computer for a while. For instance on the "Home" screen click on "Albums". Now you have a list of albums gazing politely at you, waiting for you to make a selection. What could be prettier, snappy or more intuitive? Now, select a different letter from the alpha index to bring up the relevant albums. How long did that screen take to fill? In my mind there is plenty of fun to be had here. I'll agree the Controller is taking a wee while to get to perfect. I've been used to the Squeezebox 3 (wired network) for some time now, and it reacts a bit quicker than does the Controller - but then it is pretty fully formed as of now, not under daily evolution as is the Controller/Reciever. There's as bit of growing in the Duet yet, but I can wait and see how the development goes. I like what's there now - it can be finnicky but that's computers for you. The Controller is in a state of development, but it a fine thing as it is. Would I prefer that it was finalised first and then sold? Absolutely not. I've been downloading beta stuff for years. I want what is available now. Boys and their toys etc. I'll cope with a bit of a hiccup here and there. What would I really like? Maybe a version of a tablet PC to run Squeezecenter on. iPeng is probably not too far off there, but I'm not inclined to get another iPod. The iPhone is too darn expensive to operate where I live, and I prefer the Blackberry email facility for the moment. A development of the iRex Iliad/Kindle/Sony PRS 505 able to handle Squeezecenter would be cool. I tried all sorts of shenanigans (it's St. Patrick's weekend after all) to get the scan to complete, including going back to Slimserver. Nothing worked, so I reinstalled Squeezeserver (7.01-17889), went to the Cache folder below and deleted everything in it. I then rescanned and voila, the scan completed - including scans of Arthwork and Data Optimize. Artwork is now happily showing. Cache Folder: C:\ProgramData\SqueezeCenter\Cache Re: Vista. I have Ultimate 32 installed and must say that I've never had any trouble with it. I note that the Scan problems have been happening with XP Pro SP2 also. I've deleted the Cache there and re-scanned, but the full scan is not yet competing - so no artwork shows yet on that laptop. -- kesey kesey's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10786 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44661 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
